Should I bother?

I'm currently fighting with myself on a nearly daily bases on whether or not I should bother posting my chapters.

On the one hand, I'm going to write them regardless so why not hit those copy/paste buttons and post them as well? But on the other, I seem to be putting far too much emotion into my writing and the lack of feedback from people here and in my personal life is really taking a toll on my confidence.

I've already decided to stop talking about my writing. not just what I'm writing but that I'm writing at all. It just hurts too much to have people say things like, "oh I'll totally read it!" and then they don't, or they do and say, "its good." and that's it.(If you don't like it or it isn't your cup of tea then just say so! it hurts more to lead someone on and feels like a passive-aggressive way of telling us to just stop.)

There is also the guilt I feel for the fact that I haven't been reading anything. When I do read I always try and comment with something I liked and maybe a question or place of confusion. but I haven't been doing that anymore because I haven't been reading anything, I've been obsessively single-minded in my own project so I can't rightly ask for others to give me what I'm not giving them. (That being said though no one has asked me to read anything of theirs. I am very much open to requests and will make the time to read them if asked.)

I realize that my story is a huge time investment for most people, I just finished posting the 71st chapter (21 of vol. 3). and that it is really a fantasy adventure book wearing the skin of a romance, and people come here for the romance. the first erotica doesn't even happen until chapter 16 (vol 1) and there are some stretches with none at all, the last one had none and the next 2-3 won't either. but I used to get feedback and I have no idea where else I can put it that won't get me banned for the erotica that is in it *shrug*

So I ask again, myself and anyone who happens to read this, "Should I bother to share what I write? or was it only ever meant to be a dirty little secret?"

Profile Information

A science teacher by trade and currently an obsessive fantasy/romance writer, Shawn Cameron lives a relatively quiet life in the deserts of Arizona with a fantastic spouse, two spaztastic cats, one four-year-old and a new-ish 13-month-old pair of boys.

I look forward to both sharing and reviewing longer works of fiction, particularly those that are erotica and smut friendly. Because let’s face it, sex exists, and if you want your characters to be ‘real,’ then they will run into it in one way or another. (even if they don't participate!) I firmly believe that character development can and should happen during steamy love scenes and am looking for a place where such stories can be shared without being censored
