Works In Progress

Feb 6, 2020

I thought it would be fun to add larger versions of my cover images to the start of each story, since the details of these end up hard to make out when the images get resized down to the size of a postage stamp by BooksieSilk. I started with Boyd vs Girls but after adding the cover and publishing, it published that story to BooksieSilk's "Newly Added" feed - which is not true at all!

Apologies to anyone who got a notification and/or thought I had added a new chapter to that story. I certainly don't want to flood the "Newly Added" feed with all of my stories, so I'll wait and add the covers of the other stories alongside the next update to each.

I hope you’re all having a great new year so far! Mine is off to a good start; I’ve been writing a fair amount lately. I figured it would be polite to post an update even though it’s not accompanied by any new chapter/story posts.

The writing content itself has been all over the place, hence why I’ve got nothing to show for it right at the moment. In the past month, I’ve been hit with a multitude of new story ideas. Knowing my tendency to forget things if I don’t write them down, I’ve been writing up outlines as they come to me, and as each of the ideas grows, I'm gradually fleshing each of them out into slabs of writing that are starting to look more and more like their own stand-alone stories. I’ve also been penning the next part of Compromising Situation in dribs and drabs as it recaptures my attention.

I’m letting my inspiration guide which story I work on every time I sit down to do so, rather than feeling a sense of any obligation to focus on a particular story. Obviously you haven’t seen any results from this approach just yet, but on my side, I’m writing a lot more, the content feels more fresh and exciting to me, and in general I'm enjoying each writing session to a far greater extent.

So no, this update is not accompanied by the release of any new writing, but rather serves as an update about my excitement that new work is in progress, and to let you all know that my plan to dedicate specific time each week to writing has so far been a massive success.

The newest part of A Frame of Shame, has been added.

What's next? Well, the plan was to write up a standalone seasonally-themed short story that I've had kicking around in my head for a while now, but I think it might be a bit late to get that one done in time. Instead, I think I'll keep working on my two current unfinished stories, and try not to let the myriad of other ideas I have for stories distract me too much. Until they do, of course.

2020 should be more productive. I'm making my writing more integrated into my weekly plans, so with any luck, my output will be better and a little more consistent. It is still just a fun hobby so don't expect me to become super prolific around here, but i'm carving out a small amount of time each week to specifically dedicate to it, to ensure I can keep making progress on my stories without the agonizing hiatuses of the past.

As always, your positive feedback on my works is what drives me, so thank you to those who reach out with encouragement. It is really appreciated. Have a fantastic festive season and a very Happy New Year!

Parts 8 and 9 of A Frame of Shame, have been added. Take the opportunity to catch up before I post an all-new part to the story, this weekend!

No, really! I'm pretty sure I can stay true to my word this time! I've done the math!

The first 7 parts of my newest story, A Frame of Shame, are up. Thanks to Dsweenz for being a great sounding board and helping iron out some details with this story that I was unsure about.

Um... That's all I have to say in this update, really!

After far, far too long, Compromising Situation has a new chapter. Circumstances beyond my control caused my hiatus to balloon out beyond what even I might have been willing to anticipate. So finally, those of you who were asking when Chapter 26 would be posted can breathe a sigh of relief before starting in on when Chapter 27 will be written.

On that note, I'll echo what I said in my last news post - I'm not willing to rush these things. My writing turns to shit when I rush, and then nobody's happy. I've already got the next parts worked out in terms of an outline of where things are going and will end up.... but let's assume I'm not going to have it ready within a couple of days.

After all, I have other stories to tend to as well, namely A Frame of Shame and another, entirely new standalone single chapter short story which is seasonally themed and I therefore need to put the accelerator on, to get it written in a timely manner.

I'll work to post the story-so-far of the aforementioned FoS, over the next week or so. Then I might just allow inspiration to dictate my next move.

Dang. Well, I guess that's what I get for trying to set myself a deadline. The next chapter of Compromising Situation is still imminent, but I was wrong to think the small amount of time I had available to work on it at the end of this week would be sufficient. Especially after such a long time away from writing this story. Things haven't quite gelled the way I'd thought they would, so I need to do a little more tinkering with the chapter, mainly on a structural level, before it's ready. I refuse to post a chapter I'm not happy with, simply to meet an arbitrary deadline I've set myself, as posting a chapter I'm not happy with is less likely to inspire me to go on and write the next one.

Hang in there everybody. I believe in you.

Readers of Compromising Situation will be pleased to hear that after a rather lengthy hiatus, I'm back into writing, and a new chapter should be along any day now. That is, I assume readers will be pleased. Unless you're one of those hate-readers. Though I guess even hate-readers will be pleased to have a new chapter to hate on. So... good for you.

I'd say it's at least a day or two away yet. But it's definitely coming.

I'm also chipping away at reformatting and rejuvenating another story I have yet to finish, but have hit a wee roadblock in my research. The story in question is called A Frame of Shame. As the story is set in the U.S. and I am not, I'm struggling with certain details about the U.S. schooling system. In my initial version of the story, I tried not to let technical details bog me down and went with whatever a quick web search would tell me, but I figured since I'm giving the story a lick of fresh paint, I figured I might as well try and smooth out a few of the blemishes in the process.

So if you're reading this in the U.S., you've read the story in question, and you wouldn't mind helping me out with a couple of questions, hit me up with a private message on here.

I can hear you asking, why didn't I just set it outside the U.S.?

It's a very good question. In retrospect, I have no idea. But i'm in too deep now. The salad is all mixed, and it'd be too much work and time to start over on a fresh one - easier to just pick out the hairs...

Wow. Apologies for that grotesque analogy. I promise, all my good writing is going into my stories.

It's taking some time to get these new digs set up, but it's already starting to feel like a home. Hope you're enjoying what I've posted so far; there's definitely more on the horizon!

I'll be super honest - nothing motivates me to write this stuff more than words of encouragement (yep, I'm an absolute sucker for ego-inflation), so if you like what you read and want more, let me know, so I know I'm not spending my time writing into a black hole.
