Ugly Green Dress

“I have that charity ball tonight Anie, I can’t come over and see the girls, I’m sorry.” June told her older sister.

“Can’t you just skip it and say you went? Elizabeth and Charlotte want to see their aunt.” Melanie wined into the phone.
“Their only a month old, they don’t know what they want.” June laughed.
“Yes, but I want to see you.” Melanie said.
“I promise I’ll come over tomorrow.” June walked over to her closet to find the dress she had picked out for tonight.
“Can’t, Aidan’s parents are coming over to baby site so we can go out.” Melanie sounded wistful. Melanie and Aidan had gotten married last July and had started their family right away. Sometimes June felt like her sister didn’t need her any more.
“Well I don’t know what to tell you.” June pulled the dress out and lay it on her bed and went in search for her mask and heals.
“Tell me that you are not going and coming over here.” Melanie said in a happy, baby voice witch told her that she was holding one of the girls.
“This is important to me. If I want to start my office I need to set up a client base,” June told her as she walk into her kitchen to find something to eat. “Besides, rich people always have the worst problems, and I want to help them.”
“You know who has problems?” Melanie asked her.
“Abby.” They said at the same time.
“Yes, but I would not be able to help her because she does not want my help.” June huffed.
“Use that psychologist brain of yours and make her talk.” Melanie said with a shrug in her voice.
“Whatever, listen I got to go and get ready for this ball. I promise I’ll come over and see the girls soon!” June started to hang up.
“June!” Melanie yelled and she hung up.
June heaved a sigh. It was going to be a long night she had so much she wanted to get done in order to start her psychologist office. The thing was, she had no clients and getting invited to this ball tonight was her big break. She needed to establish a base for her clients, and who better that the rich? They always had some problem. June never did it for the money, she always wanted to help people, even when she was younger.
Snapping herself out of her train of thought, June looked at the clock and saw that it was already six o’clock. The ball did not start until eight, but it took some time before June would be ready. Hopping in the shower, June washed up and thought about her twin niece's. June only hoped that one day she could have that too. Sighing wistfully, she got out of the shower and started to dry off. Before she had any time to start getting ready, there was a knock at the door.
Rushing out of her bedroom and into the hall, June looked through the peephole and found Abby standing there with a large tote bag. Unlocking the door, June stepped back to let her in. “What are you doing here?”
Lifting her bag so that June could take it Abby said, “I’m here to make you uber sexy. Your sister said that you would not be coming over and so here I am! I know that you want to wear that ugly green...thing you call a dress. But I have something better.” she took the bag back and set it on the counter, “and before you start to protest, I got it approved by Anie and she said that it was major sexy.”
“Abby...I don’t want to look like a hooker.” June said. She always pictured herself as being a modest dresser, never reviling too much.
“Hello? Have I ever made you look bad?” Abby put one hand on her hip and started to tap her foot. Abby was the real fashion expert whenever her or Melanie needed something to wear.
“No,” June reluctantly admitted. “But I can’t wear the same things as you. I could never pull off half the things you wear”
“No duh, no one can look as good as me.” Abby smiled.
June had to laugh at that because it was true, Abby looked good in everything her wore. Before June could protest, Abby had her by the shoulders and hauling her down to her bedroom. June was very reluctant to let her help out, but Abby said to relax and sit at her vanity and let her do her thing.
After all the tugging, pulling and yanking, for almost an hour Abby was finally done. “Now go into the bathroom and put this on,” she pulled out a dress carrier and handed it to her. “No complaining, just shut up and put it on.”
“You know you could be a lot nicer to me.” June said as she walk toward the bathroom.
“And you can do as I say.” Abby smiled at her before she closed the door.
June hung the dress carrier on the hook on the door and slowly unzipped it. The dress was the most beautiful that she had ever seen. Blue, floor length with wide shoulder straps. There was a little detailing around the top and and under the bodices. It was perfect, not another dress could compare.
“I don’t hear you yelling at me so I’m going to take that as you love the dress and I have once again worked my magic.” Abby said from the other side of the door.
“You...are amazing, I love the dress.” June pulled out the dress very carefully and put it on, zipping it up as much as possible.
Waling out of the bathroom she turned around so that Abby could zip it up the rest of the way, “Oh God, am I good or what?”
“Now all I need are shoes.” June started to walk over to her closet, but was swung around by Abby with a pair of cute black heals.
“I always come prepared.” she said with a smile.
Taking the shoes she sat down to put them on, “perfect fit.” She stood up and walk around the room. “Thank you.”
Abby held out her arms for a huge, “you and Anie are like sisters to me.” She hugged her tight. “I would do anything for you.”
“Well it’s time for me to go.” She smiled at her and gathered her purse and headed for the door.
“June.” Abby called from behind her.
Turning around, June opened her mouth to ask what she needed when she saw that she was holding up her mask. Walking back she grabbed it out of her hand. “Wish me luck.”
“I wish you get laid!” Abby said from behind her.
Shaking her head, June headed for the door and out to her car. The ball tonight was to be held at the Rivington Hotel. This place was so lavished and expensive that only certain higher up people stayed there. The only reason that June got an invitation was because she knew one of the guest, he was an old family friend and was glade to get her an invitation.
As soon as she got there the valley came around and opened the door. handing over the keys, June stepped to the door and looked inside. Before she went in she put on her mask and secured it with the string. Getting out her invitation, June handed it over the the man in front of the door.
“Name?” He asked.
“Carver.” She gave him a smile.
“Go ahead.” He said to her not, smile back, but keeping a grim expression on his face. Wow that was such a nice man. June said to herself.
Getting in was the easy part, what she really had to do was get people to talk to. Looking around, she found no one that she knew. Well at least she thought she knew no one, they were all in masks. June as nervous and started to fidget with er purse. She walked over the punch table and got herself a drink and took a big swallow. A nice waltz started to play.
“Hello.” A masculine voice said from behind her.
Turning around she found a man in a plane black mask. He was dressed in a very nice black suite and tie. “Hello.”
“The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.” He said in a soft voice.
“W-what?” June was flustered.
“The only thing I can see are your eyes, and they are beautiful.” He said with a smile.
June had to laugh, “That Is the corniest thing I have ever heard.”
“There you are, I've been looking all over for you,” someone said from her side. Looking over she saw another man coming over to her. “Where have you been?” He kissed her on the cheek.
June tried and played along. “I’ve been talking to...”
“Gerard,” He said with a smile. “And you are?”
“Max Cambull,” Max shook the mans hand. “I’m her boy friend.”
