I  was laying under the bed, it was dark. My eyes were watering and I could feel my lip starting to bleed as I was biting it so hard. I didn’t want to look but even in the shadows I saw.

He was rocking the baby up and down on top of him, thrusting.

He was moaning and murmuring to the baby, the baby did not cry.

The baby was still, I was calm but I remember thinking that it was odd, the baby was so quiet.

“Why am I doing this?” Tony murmured in the babies’ ear.

Lydia was standing behind him watching, I could see her eyes glistening in happiness.  As she opened her mouth to speak, it sounded like a class of school children were around her.

It made me jump, the whole room filled with happy children’s voices, all chiming together in union.

“Because we’re the teacher’s pet.” They giggled happily.

I remember wondering if this was just in my head, it didn’t seem real how this could be happening.

I knew I was drowsy from the drugs, everything started spinning fast and my head was pounding, I knew I couldn’t keep it up. The blanket dropped that was hiding me.

There was a loud moan that woke me up, I must of only been out for a few minutes.

The baby did not cry. The baby was still. The door opened and a crease of light shone into the room, Saranda took one step inside and spotted me under the bed straight away. I think knew something was wrong by the strange way she was looking at me.

My head was still spinning, colours were mixing and draining together, I struggled to stay looking at Saranda, everything was moving so fast, my head was so heavy.

Tony looked under the bed, trying to see what Saranda was staring at, his eyes looked right into mine, but it was like I wasn’t even there,  like I was invisible, he looked through me.

I staggered up just as Tony was walking towards the door, he turned to me in disbelief and then anger rose to his face. The baby fell from his arms. Shattering in millions of pieces.  Flying.
