Collision
Chapter One
She knew at that moment, she could never let him take her.As he looked into Samantha’s eyes, she felt him.The years of anticipation pierced her body and slid straight to her soul. She shouldn’t have let it happen. She should have seen how much he cared.Too busy to see she wasn’t the one who was lonely. She wasn’t the one sitting patiently.Waiting.Now it was too late.He was telling her all along and she chose not to see it.Things were too complicated. She could never let him love her.
Samantha looked into his eyes one more time. She yearned to speak. They had always been honest with each other. How could she tell him?Andrew spoke first, yet he was telling her everything with his gaze. His lips...moving.Telling her they could never be together. She felt herself being drawn closer. She couldn’t stop.
She kissed him.His lips were soft.It felt so natural. He kissed her back. She didn’t know what to feel. This wasn’t supposed to happen.Neither of them fought it.Her body melted into his.She wanted this moment to last forever. They both knew it couldn’t.Her mind kept coming back to his last words, “I love her.You and I can never be together. We’ll only be friends.”Samantha didn’t care. She wanted this moment and now she knew he did too.
Gently he released her as she pulled away, Samantha closed her eyes, hoping to remember that kiss forever. As she opened her eyes, he was smiling. Andrew was pleasantly surprised that his words hadn’t swayed her.Her kiss was more than he anticipated. He had waited for it for three years now.Even though he had a fianc, Samantha’s big green eyes and curvaceous body flirted with his every desire. The fact that Samantha was almost 6 years older then him intrigued him even more. His fianc Abigail was only 22 and wasn’t experienced enough to really satisfy his taste for something less traditional. He knew Samantha could teach him and wouldn’t mind experimenting with things that most would look at as torrid and too indecent to even think of trying.
“I’m sorry,” she said, as she looked down, ashamed that she couldn’t stop herself.
He looked confused. He’d never heard her apologize for herself. She was always so confident in every move she made.Women called her a bitch, but secretly wished they could be as strong.Men found her mysterious and secretly wished she’d show them more attention.Samantha had seemed to notice neither.
“I shouldn’t have done that.”She tried to sound as though she didn’t care. Her head was spinning and her body was betraying her every sense of what was right. She knew he had a fiancShe didn’t want to be the one to break them up, but his kiss was so powerful, so genuine. Its energy caught her off guard. She didn’t know if he felt it too and she didn’t want to show her hand.
“You didn’t want to kiss me?” His smile turned, as he tried to look into her eyes and read her soul. She always played by the rules, but he knew there was another side to her, just waiting to come out.He could see it when she wore her low-cut blouses, which would fall open, as she’d lean over to talk to him.He would try to guess what size she was.At least a C, he would ponder, or even a D.They were supple and when she took deep breathes, they would rise perfectly and fall back in place. Her long legs tempted him. She’d wear skirts, just short enough to show her long, smooth legs, as she sat with her ankles crossed.Samantha wanted something. He thought it was him.He couldn’t be wrong.
Samantha looked around, trying to stall for time.A thought, an answer, anything. She didn’t know what to say.Should she tell him that she wanted his kiss?If she did, he would know how she felt. She had yearned for his touch, to feel his lips on hers. She carefully placed her hand on his.His hands were so strong. His dark eyes were pools of possibilities. His black hair, smooth and thick. She wanted to run her fingers through it.
Andrew started intriguing her about a year after he started at McLain Financial. He began as a Jr. Analyst, fresh from UCLA.He was smart.Eager.He had caught her eye during his process reviews.Samantha recognized his ambition and quickly brought him over to her team. They started working closer together. His analytical models for risk assessment impressed her. Then he started to say things. So casually, she wouldn’t think twice. And like a raindrop on a still pond, the thought would barely cause a ripple. Over time, the pond was full of ripples and her thoughts could not escape his words.
He wanted her.More then he thought he ever would. He glanced over and saw a picture of his fiancThey had been together since college, but he knew their relationship could never be as exciting as his friendship with Samantha. He liked her touch. He noticed she would lean over and slightly graze his thigh, as they sat next to each other, while working late on a project. He was careful not to acknowledge her touch. She would walk up behind him in the office and gingerly place her hand on his shoulder as she leaned over to see his screen. He would pretend not to notice her enchanting scent.
He quickly forgot about Abigail.Samantha’s pale skin was the softest he had ever felt.As she squeezed his hand, it was difficult for him not to kiss her, again.
“Hold Me,” she tentatively asked.
He put his arms around her.She felt safe. He loved how she felt in his arms.He could smell her long, dark auburn hair. She looked up at him, as he looked down, their lips met once again. She wanted to love him.Not only did he have a fianc but she was his boss.Could she handle working so closely to him, now?It was against every policy McLain Financial ever wrote.
She had to stop.Their lives were not meant to cross, this way.Andrew had tried to tell her, she just didn’t want to listen. She pushed him away, as she savored the last taste of his sweet kiss.
“Please, this isn’t supposed to happen. We both know how this will end.”At that moment, she didn’t care how it ended, as long as she could have him.All of him.Her words contradicted everything she felt. She didn’t want to lose.
He silently leaned over, took hold of her waist, pulled her tightly up to his body and kissed her gently, slowly and methodically. She had changed his life. She challenged him.She inspired him.She seduced him in ways she never even knew. Her body pressed up against his.She could feel him, he felt so comfortable. It just wasn’t right. She couldn’t go through with it.
“I have to go.” She started to get up.
“Please, don’t” he asked, his honesty was overwhelming.
He could see her hesitation. He knew her so well. How could she fight this? Why did she want to?
“Why should I stay? You’ll break my heart and I’ll break yours. We have too much to lose.” She slowly gathered her purse, hoping he’d ask, again. Her heart hurt. Why didn’t she stop this before it began? Was she so foolish, not to believe things would end this way?He should’ve known, too.Did he know?
“I want you to stay,” he finally said. “Sammie, you know I wouldn’t ask unless…”
“I know” She quickly cut him off.
She didn’t want to hear the rest.He was the only one she’d let call her Sammie and only privately. When he said it, she knew those words were only meant for her.
It’s all he could think of.Samantha was always there for him. He hoped she would honor his request. He hoped he could feel her, again. The moment he held her wasn’t long enough. He had desired her for too long, to let her go so easily.
Samantha looked over at him. He was striking. His deep mysterious eyes, watching her.Hoping she would say what he wanted to hear. Her coat was on, her purse was over her shoulder and car keys were in hand.If she was going to leave, it had to be now. This was what all those years came down to.One moment.Samantha’s heart and soul wanted her to stay.He was everything she wanted in a man.If she did, she would have the one night she dreamed of.If she left, she’d have a lifelong friend.
“I want to stay,” He smiled and looked down at her keys, as they dangled in her hand.
“I just don’t want to lose you.”She had to be honest. She lifted her eyes to see him coming towards her.
“You will never lose me.”He whispered in her ear as he held her hands.
Reality hit her hard. She couldn’t believe what he was saying. How could he say something like that?He has a fiancHe loved her. Their families have been planning their wedding day, almost since they met.
“Don’t say that to me.You will lose me and I will lose you. It’s the way it has to be.You’ve told me yourself.”He took a step back, not believing that she wasn’t feeling what he was feeling.
“Are you sure?”He gently asked.
“No,” She thought for a moment.“Are you?”
She let him take her purse and put it back on the kitchen table.Cautiously taking her keys he answered, “No” as he led her back to his couch.
Every excuse not to stay ran through her mind, yet she was captivated by his touch. She wanted to know more.He made her feel, like she was the only one. They sat together. She couldn’t move.Frozen in thought. She couldn’t look at Andrew; if she did she knew she would succumb to her desire.
She finally turned to him.“Please don’t love me.It will break my heart.” Samantha looked into his eyes, hoping he’d see how desperately she wanted him.“You don’t understand.” As she spoke, he kissed her again. She had to stop.He wasn’t ready.
She stood up, grabbed her purse and keys, as quickly as she could. He stayed seated and silently watched her. Mesmerized by her beauty and strength. She could feel his confusion and his disappointment. She couldn’t let him stop her.She turned and as she opened the front door.“I can’t take the chance. You’re too important to me.”
