The green light shone through the haze. I blinked again and again. Lightning stuck, lighting my room for a fleeting moment. I sat bolt upright reaching for my glasses. I turned back toward my nightstand and the green numbers ticked over. 11:59 - 12:00. I sat there staring, one more minute,  12:01. Its officially my birthday, born at 12:01 exactly 18 years from now. I let out a satisfied huff of air and give a small smile. My mother told the doctors id live, and I'm happy to have proven her right. I climb down from my bed and reached out  for my satin slippers on the floor. Then I move across the room toward the fireplace. I grab a handful of kindling and a log and place it of the fire then sit-down. Lightning strikes again, lighting up my collection of porcelain dolls on the mantle. The fires flicker lights up the faces from underneath, giving them an unworldly likeness, I shiver.  kneeling down I grab hold of the poker, and satisfyingly poke away at the fire till it bursts out with a steady flame. Returning the poker I walk back to my bed gazing back at my dolls, each one has honey brown hair and deep brown eyes, like my mum. Each with a different air to them, likeness to her, but none quite the same. Lightning strikes again, twice this time and on the second flash I notice a shadow on the ground with wide brimmed hat. I turn sharply toward the patio door but nobody is there. I blink once, twice then remove and clean my glasses. The door is clearer and there's still a heavy downpour outside but no man.  I strain my vision toward the latch and notice its unlocked. My heart thumps and I dash toward the door slamming the latch down. My hot breath fogs up the glass as I stare out onto the patio, nobody is out there. As my heart starts to slow I reach out to the curtains, unhinge them and begin to pull them close. "hello" a magical voice whispers. I whimper out in alarm just as a lightning strike hits again. I press my back into the pink frill of the curtain, the cold glass slowly seeping through the fabric.  My heavy breathing falters, as my eyes catch a shadow in the room. I strain my eyes again, but sigh in relief. It's just a combination of shadows from the fires reflected light. I Turn back toward the door and take one last peek outside before I completely block my view and then I notice a small puff of smoke and definitely not from the chimney. I wipe the sweat from my brow and clean my glasses on more time. I place them back on my nose and gasp. A tall muscular figure stands before me, on the other side of the glass. I spring back horrified and lightning strikes again. It takes a while to focus on his face but piercing golden eyes stare down at me hungrily, and his lips perk up into a wicked grin.

"Let me in" he whispers but his words are a roar in my mind.

"come on baby, let me in"

"it's not hard baby, you want to let me in"  like smoke his words linger in the air.

Slowly, painfully I shake my head.  it's the best I can do, my body won't move my legs are like lead. I want to scream, call out to daddy but my body is unresponsive. I watch, horrified as the latch slowly slides open. the door bursts open and the rain and wind with it, specs of water hit my glasses and the wind whipping my hair around my face and neck.

Perfectly timed with the lightning the man's voice booms. "let me in"

"O-k-k-k" slips from my mouth and half way through the word I stumble, taking it back, trying to undo it. But the moment it licked my consciousness, in a moment of a second he was inside, the door was shut and he was wrapped around me in front of the fire.

A scream hitched in my throat, strangling me, bile rose up, halting at the base of my tongue.

"now, now baby you need to calm down, I'm not going to hurt you. Take some deep breaths"

The sound of his voice wafted around me like perfume, seeping into my skin and I found myself doing as I was told. Deep breath in through my nose and out through my mouth, once, twice, three times. like some sort of trick my heartbeat slowed to its natural rate.

"mmmmm" he breathed into my neck " that's a good girl"

His thumb and forefinger pressed into my jaw, pain surged through me and he raised my head to meet is eyes. "I want a real good look at you"

"please, no" I whimpered, straining my face toward the ground

"hush baby, I'm not going to hurt you"

He snatched off my glasses crunching them underfoot. The world was once again a hazy blur and tears sprung rapidly from my eyes.  I flinched as I saw his blurry hat land on top of my shattered glasses.

"Let me look at you" he growled again, fingers still pinching at my jaw. I pulled away.

"I said, Let me look at you" This time his voice boomed into the room, and lighting shot down from the sky striking somewhere close by sending a surge of bright light through the cracks in the curtains.

I looked up at his face, thick blonde hair waved neatly around his face and unworldly amber eyes gleamed down at me. As my eyes met his, amber swirling mists dove deep into my core.

His mouth twitched up into a devilish grin..

"Ohh yes, I'm claiming you baby, I'm going to make you mine"
