Summary

Royalty, peasants, rich nobles to be, servants....savages just words, vague titles it takes one time to see who is really what by getting to know them. That is, should they allow it, with shortages reaching the kingdom of Caris as they face a runaway king and his loosely trained replacement there seems more still to shake them up. Just what we need another unwanted union, maybe at least they will like it.

(Got a story going....I know I'm lame but thought of this anyhow.

I own the story and all the characters, any likeness to any person(s) living or dead is coincidental and unintentional. While this story is available for free it is not to be redistributed in anyway; I am the only person who can post this on more than one site or earn money for it in the future.)

Prologue

There was something to say about those that crossed into the great beyond, it wasn't a simple matter of dying that was a term better meant for the the savages of Thetan. Most would never step over the boundary line that split them from the decent folk...that made their homes from Vartimir, to Caris, Delmura, and Alvone.

At least it was a common thought that circled about the rich, that said with little proof there was more to them than what was expressed by their betters those under them, so to speak, simply accepted. Over the years nothing found it's way over the barrier or through the supposed path in the center. Many questioned if it had ever been used it seemed the blockage had been there so long even some of the elderly that lived at the longest couldn't remember when the cave in occurred. The main kingdom, Caris  stood joined to the once grand forest that was but a shadow of what it once was.

Dark wood trees thick...thin, dead, or short accented with dark blue tress set in dried mud and graying grass. Tal de Veta...cursed touch more literally, for this reason, there was little invitation near the closed hole or the forest decorating it's path. Naturally, with better options coming from beasts stampeding through the wheat fields, through the poisoned fish living in the nearest streams winding between each town.

Unlike most towns from kingdom to kingdom held cracked roads or cobblestone while Caris sat with polished walkways most had carriages to get around. Though the streets were often filled with the sound of clicking from heels or well made canes going in tune with heavy wooden tires. The tightly pressed buildings had just enough alley space for pairs to walk through, the vivid touches of blue that changed to match the healthier trees as the seasons went on.  The Spring brought blues, pinks, and greens, Summer left a light Orange, yellow, lighter tones offering the warm look of the days, Fall's red, brown, and beige was thoughtful at least. Then there was Winter was loaded with gold and white, set against black. Caris was known for it's beautiful holiday season it was when most inns earned their money for the year.  Past the stone roof topped houses and businesses was the moat that lead to the castle.

Aside from it's riches, the royal family had nothing of the like, their land was founded on the pride of a soldier one wouldn't find expensive art work, particular grounds keeping, or even walls without cracks to look at the family home. Today the guards were revolving above the battlements their leather-y rings flapping ominously. For this, the roads were clear, the lightly dressed maids and butlers were stuck inside though it seemed Tal de Veta hadn't spread there was simply something wrong in the air.

One didn't take such feelings lightly.

Especially with the Al'iciti coming up, the proper crowning the Crowned Prince or Princess could be replaced it was the high counsel's will...once they earned their crown it took a lot more work.

Not since now have they ever had a problem with the royal children shaming themselves, for him it wasn't is fault. Though to return from war and hear your powerful, duty bound, bear of a father had just left his people, his family, he was feeling it all the shame.

He could only wish to give him the benefit of the doubt, wishful thinking...at least he feared it was that they certainly still kept enemies that could over power them it wasn't as if these rich lands and celebrated history came with unmatched skills. Though there was no way of knowing why he left, without talking to him.

His mother could only warn him not to be weak, and he could only wish she was just bitter and that his father had reason somewhere. How does one properly cope when they are let down by one of the greatest men they'd ever known?

Tis a question, for another day.

A young prince has much more to focus on.

Such as, ruling a kingdom without an heir.
