A dog really is mans best friend. Their love is unconditional and given freely without any demands. A little food and the occasional treat along with a little love and playtime is all it takes to keep them happy and make their tail wag. Going for a walk is a new adventure every day for them even if you take the same route every time. They greet you each morning or when you come home with excitement as if you have been gone for a long time.

My Dog
Into my life you bring nothing but joy,
you're my treasured little boy.
With you by my feet,
my life is complete.

The things that you do,
make me love you.
Your doggie smile,
makes my life worthwhile.

Walking down the street,
when people we meet.
You never fail,
to wag your tail.

You have to stop and pee,
on the trees that you see.
I have to stoop and scoop,
when you stop and poop.

I don't know what I would do,
without you.

Awww, that is sooo sweet. Critters do bring a lot of joy to our lives and during these stressful times, a lot of calm. While I do not have a dog, I did have a cat but she passed away. She would be comfort much in the way you describe and so in time we hope to give another pet like her a forever home. :)

Thanks Amy. Sorry to hear about your cat. I have one too but he's not as much fun as my dog. I love hearing him purr when I run my fingers over him when he lays beside me at night in bed. When I am filling his dish with his wet food in the morning he will walk around me rubbing his body on the side of my leg and meow telling me to hurry up.
I hope you get another pet soon. You might try getting a dog. It's a totally different experience. A little more work but it's a lot more fun.

That's a tender and sweet poem, Ron, by someone who truly cares for and appreciates the love of a pet. I don't have a pet basically because I would not have the time to return the attention they give us, but I envy people who have pets and enjoy them as you obviously do.

Thanks Ben. The time he spends with me and the happiness he makes me feel inside is something money could never buy. There isn't a day goes by that he doesn't fail to put a smile on my face. I hate the winter weather but watching him roll around playing ion the ground in the snow on our walks makes me forget about the cold. I must look like a fool standing there talking to him laughing.
I hope someday ehen you get older and retire you get a dog. It will make you feel young again even if it's only for a few moments.

Nicely penned Ron.
Us humans need pets to exist.
The give and take of human relationships is exhausting.
I sometimes wonder in these third world countries ravaged by famine and wars where on earth the dogs and cats come from. They are heaven sent.

Thanks for reading it and your comment. I wish all humans were as loving, undemanding and forgiving as pets are to their owners. The love and companionship they give so freely is priceless.

A life without a dog/ cat/ or any other nonhuman animal companion is incomplete.

Thanks. A dog can put a smile on the gloomiest persons face. Every day they give you a new reason to smile even if you are in a bad mood. Just touching them can raise your spirits when you get one of their smiles.
