Irene’s heavy heart had string so knotted she could hardly take a deep breath. As the taxi drove her away from the old cottage that was in sore need of repair, her parents waved at her, holding on to each other. The two most important people in her life, the people who had sacrificed everything for her, they meant everything to her. She had nothing without them neither would she be anything.

To offset her school bills for her final year, her mother had sold her engagement ring along with one of her father’s trucks which he used to carry goods to the major market. It has been that way since she started at Miranda’s Elite Girls. It was the most expensive on the Island of Elysis. She didn’t have to go but her parents wanted a better life for them so they invested in her with hopes that she would find a rich husband among the high class of the society.

Here she was going to school to live like the queen she wasn’t while her parents were in desperate need of money.

The journey took them about 45minutes through the slum part of town where she came from, farm fields, dilapidated byuildings and small huts to the part where her parents dreamed for her. The high rise buildings, state of the art houses, jaw dropping mansions, a well maintained park, expensive restaurants and finally her school full of snobs and stuck up bitches.

She hated the place, not the building or the lifeless objects, only the ones that could breathe and talk. Everyone knew her financial status and automatically assumed that slum based people like her had no right to be there but thank god for the mistress, as long as the fee got paid, you had a shot.

She had no friends, no one to talk to, everyone treated her like dirt beneath their shoes. She was never noticed and she wondered how she would manage to get the rich husband if no one could see her. Well someone did see her but it was only to give her hell.

In an environment where courtesy and respect was encouraged, you would think there would be absence of barbarians but no, Morgause can be classified as a rich and powerful barbarian.

Irene looked up at the huge gates. A taxi would not be allowed in only private cars. She got down from the taxi, wishing she could will herself to be back home.

The taxi driver sat back as she dragged her old bags out. He probably had known there would be no tip. She got her bags to the gate and rang the bell. The security guards came out, dressed in a blue cop like uniform, she showed them her identification and they rolled the gates open, the massive gates that were going to hold her captive for another three months. Thank goodness, she would be graduating and hopefully she would find a husband.
