John has recently lost his wife in a car accident. It is the anniversary of her death and he is still grieving his loss. He has made her a beautiful gift and is going to go to the special place he spread her ashes to give his gift to her, but what he doesn't know is there is a special gift waiting for him there.

To My Lovely Wife:

John Fraser sat in his living room ottoman chair drinking his sorrows down with a 24-ounce bottle of beer. He sat staring at the television set which currently had a DVD of his wedding ceremony playing on its screen. It was the anniversary of his late wife’s death. John’s late wife was killed in a car accident a year ago. He could remember when the police came to his door and told him the bad news. He remembered those lonely nights after his wife’s death, he would drink himself to sleep. He remembered the devastation on every loved one’s face when they were told of his wife’s death. The way his wife’s sister grieved and shut herself away from her family during that time. The devasted news came as a shock to everyone. John eventually had his wife’s body cremated and scattered along the local beach nearby. That was what she had told him she wanted when she was alive.

Now John sat watching him and his wife on T.V and looking through his wedding album. He missed his dear wife very much and would give anything to be with her again. She was still with him through spirit. Sometimes at night, he would hear her call out his name. He would wake up suddenly and see visions of her floating at the foot of his bed. But when he would reach over and cut on his bedside lamplight, she had already disappeared.

John stared at his wife’s wedding ring in his hand. It was a beautiful rose gold 24-carat ring with a big diamond sitting at the top. He himself had a matching groom’s ring of his own. He remembered how big her eyes grew when he placed the ring on her finger during their wedding ceremony. He could still see her excited expression on her face when he slipped the ring on her ring finger.

Tears started to swell up in John’s eyes from the thought of that happy moment in his life. He wished he could have that moment back. He would give anything to have that happy time in his life back. But he knew it was hopeless. His wife was gone. She had parted from him in death a year ago. She was never coming back. Although, they had spent fifteen wonderful years together. She was his first and only love. He did not know how to move on from her. He could not bear the thought of marrying again.

John decided he would write his late wife a letter and place it inside a jewelry box along with his and her wedding ring. He would go to the beach tomorrow morning. He would go to the location he had spread her ashes. There he would let the waves take it out to sea.  That way, it would be amongst her ashes. He quickly picked up a pen and paper and started to write.

In the letter he wrote:

John folded the letter and placed it inside the jewelry box. He took off his wedding ring and placed it inside along with his wife’s ring. He then placed the box on top of the coffee table. In the morning he would visit the place where he had his wife’s ashes scattered at her favorite place. John spent the rest of the night finishing up his beer and watching the rest of the wedding video.

The next morning, John got up and got into his car. He would now take a ride to the local beach with the jewelry box in his possession. When he got to the beach, he parked his car in an available parking spot and got out.

John walked a little way down the empty beach until he got to the spot where he had his wife’s ashes scattered. He stopped and looked out into the ocean. The ocean waves were not too rapid this early time in the morning. It was after-all six in the morning and the tides had not picked up yet.

John stood by the ocean and stared further into the waves of the ocean. The sun was just now peeking out of the horizon. It was a beautiful site to see. He wished his wife could be by his side to see it. She loved the early morning atmosphere on the beach. She once told John; the ocean gave her a sense of peace. That was one of the main reason’s why John decided to spread her ashes out in the ocean; so, it can bring her peace.

“I love you, Jezebel,” John began as he stared out into the clear blue ocean. “I will always love you. I brought you something. I want you to have our wedding rings. That way, our happiest moments will always be with you.” John bent over and placed the box on top of the water. He straightened his posture and watched the small box float further into the ocean.

As he said his last goodbyes and turned to leave, he thought he heard a lovely hummingbird call out his name. He then turned back to the ocean to see from the distance, a figure walking towards him. It seemed to be floating on top of the water. John focused his eyes to fully view what was coming towards him. Then he heard her voice again. It was his wife’s voice. He then realized his wife was walking on top of the water and was coming to him.

“John, my love. Stay with me,” she said. “Be with me forever,” John heard her say from a distance away.

John could not believe what he was seeing. His wife was even more beautiful than she was when she was alive. She still had on the white dress she was dressed in at her funeral. Her spirit was radiant. She was beautiful in spirit.

Jezebel came closer and closer until John could actually touch her. Her touch gave him a tingly feeling all over.

“Jezebel, my love. I have missed you so dearly,” John said, as he felt his wife’s spiritual touch. “Did you get my gift?”

“Yes, I did. And the letter was beautiful,” she said, staring into John’s eyes. “Come with me, John. So, we can be together forever.”

John did not have to think about his answer. He knew he wanted to be with his wife. He wanted to be with her forever; even if that meant in death. “Yes, my love. Let us be together forever,” John replied.

Jezebel’s spirit took John by the hand and turned to lead him into the ocean. John walked side by side with his wife floating above the ocean tides until they came upon a white light that would lead them into the afterlife.

This story is sad as much as it is sweet. Part of me wondered if the wife was really gone or if the apparition that appeared to him was real. Thanks for sharing!

I think I meant for It to be real. He went with her to the afterlife. Thanks for reading and commenting Amy. I appreciate your comments.

Hey Ify!
I'm not sure if I'd classify this as horror. It's more romantic than horror. It did remind me of the final scene in "The Sixth Sense". Did you see that movie? That was quite a surprise ending.

What I was expecting to happen in your last paragraph was John was going to be led by his late wife's spirit into the ocean, where he drowns. Then, he'd be found floating along with the jewelry box in the tide. But maybe there would be a twist....perhaps a note from his wife in the box.

I like the story, girl.

These are the kinds of stories you were meant to share! This is surreal, with just a hint of a something that the reader can grasp onto & feel as though he were right there watching the event transpire! Watch your spelling & tenses, but always continue to foster this very real & touching type of genre that you have now found! This is amazing, & I am TRULY impressed with your new vision!
