"THE BROWN BOX"

Once there was a boy named Aaron, who was always busy with his work and never took notice of the surroundings, living a monotonous life. He was always alone and left for the fate to fill his life with happiness and joy.

It was one day when he was returning to his house, his Volkswagen which turned down due to technical problem and turned stagnant. He cursed in his breath when this could happen at night time and he had to walk home. Leaving the car sideways in the parking area, he started walking ahead to his house. While he was walking through the path of park, he noticed that a swing was moving inside the park. This struck curiosity in him and he left his feet towards checking as to who was there. There was a seven year old boy with messy blond hair and a cheerful smile on his lips was playing, he was dressed in black hoodie. He was standing behind the swing applying force to it where laid a small girl probably of five year old seated on it. She had long brown hairs with emerald green eyes and smile on her lips. Both were laughing contently in the world of their own. Aaron wondered as to why both the kids would be here in the park at late night. Sensing eerie atmosphere, he tried to go further and inquire about them. When both the children sensed a person's presence in the park, their smiles turned faded into oblivion and took places exchanged with frown on their lips. fear had started gripping their senses as nearing sound of footsteps let both of the kids to turn to their feet’s and run away in darkness.aaron had started putting in speed to catch them but they were far gone. The sounds that had filled atmosphere earlier with contented laughs were now vanished into silence. Finding something amiss in the park, he took further steps towards the swing and had found a brown box that was laid on the swing. He came near and took the brown box in his hand. Examining it, a lock was placed on it reserving its contents from any strangers display. He thought that it might be of those children who would have left it there. So he putted it in his pocket as it would be impossible for him to find them again and hand away their possession. Then he made his way to his home. He slept wondering about what would be there in that box.

Next day he was carried out his routines of his office work and decided to visit the park as he was still having that brown box with him. Thus he went there but to his dismay no one was there. Five to six days passed as he would visit the park consecutively but never found those children again.

Since five to six days he was trying to reach those kids but couldn’t find them and unfortunately his curiosity was fueled day by day to find out contents laid in the box.

That night running out of patience, he decided to open the box. He immediately tried to dismantle the lock and after a few minutes it was broken. Now he could finally take a peek to what was inside it. Placing the lock on the side, he had tried to open it. There was a gold coin in the box with note beneath it. He took coin in one hand and read….

“THE TREASURE LIES WHERE TWO CROWS SITS NEAR THE POND AND DIE “

When Aaron read the note, he found himself pondering as to what the writer of the note wanted to convey and how can two crows sits near the pond and die and what treasure the writer is pointing out to?

Next day he had left for office earlier to visit the park in a hope of finding meaning to the note and owners of that brown box. When he made his way to the park, both the children were playing near the pond where a woman of early forties was seated peacefully on grass. The woman’s eyes met his and he took out the brown box from the coat pocket.

“Excuse me ma’am!! These children left this brown box when they were here previously and couldn’t reach them that day so I kept it safe with me.” aaron exclaimed politely.

“Yes gentleman!! It’s really nice of you to come here and handle our possession. You might be a virtuous person for performance of such a chaste act.

Aaron handled the box to the woman who was firstly confounded on seeing it. But it took rather with Aaron’s honesty and truthfulness, asked him to keep it as a gift. Firstly he refused but insistence of women leaves it in his hands.

At night when he came home, he started once again pondering about the note lying beneath the box. Next day he had once again decided to visit the park, find a solution to the curiosity struck at his throat.

The pond was filled with water birds in the morning. When he was walking alongside of the pond, he found two crows sitting there but not moving to drink the water from the pond. Then he sat on a bench and decided to watch them. Till evening sunset, those crows were sitting stagnantly but did not claim a drop of water down their throat and at last due to nearing sunset made them flew away. He was amazed and tried to wander, deciding to dig at the place where those crows were sitting alongside of the pond, maybe he could the treasure.

He had started digging at the place but found nothing. Being displeased with himself, he had started making way to his house. At night when he was wondering, he tried once again to open the box again and re-read the note again. When he was twisting the box, he found some letters written on the latter part of the box. It read

“What would you do when you’re thirsty?”

Reading that, he started thinking and answered that he would try to quench his thirst by drinking water.

Then he read the note again about the crows sitting near the pond and dying. Than it clicked to him, as to why those crows never had drunk a drop of water from the pond, while they could have quenched their thirst and flew away. But till the sunset and darkness stroked the sky, lay there and flew away.

Then he could properly understand the meaning of treasure and himself smiling at it. He at last was convinced with what the writer of the note wanted to convey. After that incident he had started living a life full of happiness…

Friends do you wish to know what was the meaning hidden in the note that Aaron understood…..

The note read about the treasure that everyone is searching for which is happiness. The treasure of happiness compared as pond of water where the crows were sitting but never took a taste of blissful pond water and at last flew away. In our life we all are like crows that are searching for happiness throughout our whole life but cannot succeed, while the crows could have drunk the water and flown away happily. We always wait for god to grant us happiness for our life to be lived worth fully but never find it, when it’s already given to us in the form of pond that was already there. Till the crows die meant till we all suffer death. Thus we should try to find happiness by doing things that could make us happy, not running for wealth. It will just kill our time that we try to spend in finding happiness and peace. Hence the gold coin was there in the box as wealth but still couldn’t grant what we have ever wanted.

Thus living life in finding happiness in every moment, every place and person, within this world, in every heart and within ourselves. Instead of asking god to give us the pleasures that could provide comfort but not meaning to our life.
