In silent pain they sit and weep

Wrapped in agony so deep

Full of hurt, nothing to gain

For the children who never sleep

As they lightly nap

They pray God their souls to keep

Afraid of hands cold and bad

Will use them as they sleep

The hands wait hard as stones

Until the child can not

Hold her eyes from closing

When they do she is caught

For fear, the utter terror

For the wee one so easy to use

The hands fondle their innocence

Eager to hurt and abuse

And so little by little the small ones

With blue circles etched under their eyes

Learn to fear every one

Learn their beds to despise

And in hell they wonder

Asking God to weep

For the endless hours of wakefulness

For the children who never sleep
