His phone rang. “Hey, Big Brother. This is your favorite sister-in-law, Elaine.”

“Not this again. Of course, you're my favorite but only because you're the only one. What's up?”

“This is one of those rare weekend alignments where Tony has the weekend off and the grandparents are available to look after the kids. Tony and I want to go to Reno and lose some money. Wanna come?”

“I'm in! What time?”

“Eight tomorrow morning. Okay? And we were each going to hold back a hundred so we can get a nice room.”

“I haven't paid my dues there yet this year, as they say. ”

He made a dash to his bank's ATM for $200. After a quick shower, he laid out a pair of slacks and a new plaid shirt. He was waiting by the curb for them the next morning. In the car, he handed Elaine his $100.

“He's my room money. I'm ready to go.”

“Thanks. What have you got in mind for today, Matt?”

“I thinking of some blackjack. I do best at that and I'd like to start recruiting a harem. Cocktail waitresses are the bomb. What do you think Tony? Seven cocktail waitresses should do it. A different beauty for each night of the week?”

“Sounds like a winner to me!”

“You're terrible, Matt and my husband encourages you! Cut it out!”

Tony said, “Big Brother, after all these years, my wife doesn't seem to get it when you're pulling her leg.”

“Yeah, Elaine. I get it when you're kidding. What's the deal with that?”

“Oh, shut up both of you!”

They rode in near silence until they stopped for a quick bite and something to drink.

The casino Elaine had chosen was on the outskirts of Reno and only about 15 minutes away from their stop.

“This is it. Pull into this lot. I see a space near the front.”

“Why did you pick this place, Elaine?” Matt asked.

“I've had real good luck here,' she answered.

Inside the casino there were about a dozen older mechanical slot machines. Elaine dropped a dollar in the first available one and soon hit a $100 jackpot.

“Elaine Kelly Hannigan, you sure have the luck of the Irish. When are you going to get me some of that luck?”

“No can do. You have to be Irish.”

“But you're a Hudson now.”

“You have to be born Irish, Silly.”

“I can never win!”

A cocktail waitress walked up behind the group and said, “Good going, Ma'am. I'll get someone to pay you.” Then she noticed who she was talking to. “Is that Elaine Hannigan?”

“Sherry! Are you working here? You look great!”

“Thanks. I'm filling in for a sick friend. I only work here once in a while. I'm a dancer at a club nearby most often. I'll be there tonight, in fact.”

“I want you to meet my husband, Tony and his brother, Matt.”

“A pleasure, Sherry,” Matt said. “I'd like to stay and chat but I came here to play some blackjack.”

Sherry quietly said to him, “Find a dealer named Eve. She's a fun lady.”

“Okay. Thanks.”

Sherry asked, “How's married life?”

Really fine. I married into a great family. My husband has become my best friend and we have two great kids. Matt is my second best friend.”

“Have you ever thought of a three way with them?”

“No. I wouldn't dishonor my marriage or my friendship with Matt, but in a perfect world. . .”

“I have to get to work.”

“Can you suggest a good place for dinner. I don't care what but the guys always like a steak on a night out.”

“There's a good steakhouse next to the club I'm working tonight. Let's meet back here at five and I'll take you there. Okay?”

“Sounds good. Five o'clock here then.”

Sherry found Matt at Eve's table. “I see you've found Eve, Matt.”

“Sure did. By the way, can I buy you a yacht or something else I couldn't possibly afford?”

She laughed at his humorous use of a worn out pickup line. “No, but I'd be quite happy with an afternoon on a fishing boat on one of those lakes near you.”

“I'll work on that. Until then, will you at least marry me?”

“Let's think a couple weeks after the fishing trip.”

“I see you believe in long engagements.”

“Think fishing trip for now.”

“I'll work on it the first thing Monday. How can I get hold of you?”

“Tonight at dinner. We're all going out together. We're meeting by the front door at five.”

Before five, Elaine and Sherry were at the front doors and Elaine was cashing in her chips.
