It was a Friday and James had finished his work. He stopped by his business partner's office on the way out of the building. “Paul, I just sent you an email with my half of the Turner report. “Okay. Thanks. I'll have it when I need it. “Hi, James,” Paul's wife Shannon said. “Hi, Shannon. What brings you here tonight?” “My husband is supposed to take me to dinner tonight.” “Where to?” “Ivan's Bistro.” “Sounds very nice. I should be going. I have a date I have to take care of tonight.” “Why don't you go too, Shannon. Call Janice or someone else and use our reservations. I think I'll need to be here a while. How'd you get done so quickly. James?” “Keep it simple, Paul. Keep it simple. Talk to my intern Monday. He'll explain.” She was doing her usual slow burn over being stood up again, but said nothing in James' presence. She was very assertive and could be very forceful at times and expected her husband to follow through on his promises. She kept her husband on a short leash. James had always suspected that Paul was a marshmallow with her but kept his mouth shut about it. He knew she could be a handful but that made him want her in his bed even more. She was the dominate one in her marriage but wanted a man who could dominate her instead and James suspected as much. She caught up with James at the elevators. “Hold the elevator for me, James.” “Got it, Shannon.” Her scurry to the elevator was made on heels and caused her to bounce a little, a look that gave James a good deal of pleasure. Married or not, he wanted to bed this woman. Tall thin brunettes were his first choice of bed-able women and this one was at number one. The door closed and he pressed the button for the first floor. “Who are you taking to dinner tonight, Shannon?” “I was hoping we could have dinner together.” “Most nights I'd accept that but I have a date that I very much need to keep. I'm taking my date to dinner at 7 to dump her. I want to do it tonight so thinking about it doesn't ruin my weekend at my cabin. She had three martinis last weekend and you know how much I hate being around drunks.” “Why is that?” “Two alcoholic parents will put you off being around drunks or drinking yourself faster than you can believe.” “Maybe another time then.” “Yes. Another time for sure. I don't think we know each other well enough yet. We're almost at the first floor and I have to be going. Call Janice. She seems like a very good friend and a lot of fun.” “I guess I will. See ya' Monday.”
