James had just been told he had gotten the job he most wanted. Joanne, his future boss, was walking him to meet Allison, the receptionist. On Allison's desk was the usual plastic piece that gave her name with the word receptionist below it. “James, this is Allison.”

“A pleasure, Allison.”

“Me, too, James.”

Joanne continued, “She's much more than a receptionist. She's been my right hand since she's been here. I'm sure she'll be very helpful to you, too. Allison, I'm putting James in charge of section two.”

“I've got something for you, Joanne, if I could just find it. . .Oh well, I'll get it to you when I find it.”

James and Joanne turned to go their separate directions. “I'll see you Monday then, Joanne. “You too, Allison. Take care.” He made it to the entrance as Joanne walked through the door that led to the hallway to her office, as Allison raced behind Joanne with the things she had misplaced. She hit a wet spot and when she fell, her big toe hit the concrete wall hard. James turned to see what had happened. He assessed the situation immediately and his Navy medic training kicked in. He dropped to his knees and said, to Allison, “This is not a big problem. You've split the skin. I've seen lots worse than this. He then turned to the young woman standing nearby. Her name tag read 'Martie'. “Martie, get some towels.”

“Shouldn't we call 911?”

“No. Just get some towels.”

“Who are you to be bossing me around?”

“The name's James Hudson. I spent 5 years in the Navy as a medic. Now, get some towels!”

Joanne added, “Martie, go to the ladies room and get some paper towels.”

“But. . “Martie protested.

“Just go!” Joanne barked. “He's going to be your boss starting Monday, so I suggest you get the towels.” “You've got good red blood, Allison. Apparently you’re not anemic.”

“And lots of it,” Joanne remarked. Allison started to raise herself up to have a look.

“Easy. You're not going to loose enough for it to be a medical problem. You will need a couple stitches at the emergency room. They're probably going to give you a shot of antibiotics and maybe a tetanus shot, too. Joanne, will you bring your car up front? We're just about to take this lady to the emergency room.”

When he saw Joanne's car at the front, he scooped Allison up.

“I can walk to the car.”

He gently put her down. “I don't think you'll want to.”

She limped a few steps. He could see the pain in her face. “Need a lift to the car?”

“Please. I wish I wasn't so much trouble for you.” “No problem.”
