Chapter 8

"Shh! Next movie is starting is starting!" I yelled, hopping to shut them up as we continued our movie marathon. I curled up next to Lance who was sitting in the corner seat of the couch, with his arms splayed out on the back of the couch and his legs crossed in front of his on the coffee table.

It had been a few weeks since I happily agreed to this sort-of/sort-of-not relationship. Its been great, lots of crazy sex, romantic dinners, outings on the boat, nights at Lance's place, and my personal favorite...behind the sex of course... movie night. We all agreed to start a movie night, so every Wednesday Sarah and I head over to the penthouse with the movies and the guys stock up on goodies.

Halfway through watching Kill Bill, I turned to Lance and nuzzled my face in his neck, during one of the more violent scene. He wrapped his arm around me, rubbing my back soothingly. "Are you okay, baby?" He whispered into my hair, placing a kiss on my head.

"No, I'm not feeling well. I'm going to go lay down." I said, standing up. I leaned down and kissed his temple before going upstairs.

The second his heavy door shut behind me, I sagged onto the ground. My head fell into my hands as I sobbed. All the violence and blood in the movie, caused unwanted flashbacks. My screaming, Ryan's sobs, the pink mist of blood in the air, the loud echo of the gunshot.

Anna's cold body lay dead on the floor. She was only in a baggy shirt and underwear, the needle still sticking out of her arm. Vomit on her face and down her chest.

I had just gotten back from school and went up to the attic to hang out with Anna and Ryan. They were twins, inseparable...even when Ryan got into heroin. He took Anna down with him, all the way to the end. They were my older siblings, both 17 when I was 14.

Ryan was in the corner, rocking back and forth holding my fathers handgun. His sobs echoed around the small room. I ran to Anna, pulling her into my arms, trying to wake her.

"Please, Anna! Please, don't do this. Please... RYAN! What happened!?" I screamed as tears filled my eyes and ran down my face onto Anna's.

"I...I don't know what happened. I did it the same way I do every time. It must have been too much or.. fuck! I don't fucking know!" Ryan yelled behind me. I looked up and remembered about the gun in his hand. I put my hand up to him as I set Anna back down and crawled over to Ryan.

"Ry please... put the gun down. I need you, please. You can't leave me here! Don't leave me here alone! You and Anna are all I have... Please." I begged. As I reached him I grabbed onto his face, forcing him to look at me. I stared into his blood-shot, dilated, watery eyes and prayed to god I could save him. But the next second, I was flung across the room, hitting my head against the wall. I sat up and looked over at Ryan just as he lifted the gun to his head. He shook his head at me and gave me a small smile.

"I love you kiddo.." He looked sadly over at Anna before turning back to me. "We both did."

I opened my mouth and let out a scream. "NO!"which was silenced by the loud bang of the pistol.

Screaming brought me out of my flashback. It took me a moment to realize that it was mine and that I was safe... far, far away from that old life and those old heart breaks. I was in Lance's arms although when I looked up I saw more than just the icy blues that I had grown to love. Rick, Danny, and Sarah all stood around Lance and I on the floor.

"Baby, What happened?!" Lance asked, panic obvious in his voice. I shook my head, trying to answer him but the sobs the wracked through my body kept my voice at bay.

Lance picked me up in his arms and climbed onto the bed, laying us both down. "Oi, give us some time alone, yah?" Lance yelled as he tucked my head into his chest. I clenched his shirt in my hands as I continued to cry for what felt like hours.

After I calmed down, I finally gained the courage to do what I couldn't before... talk about that night.

* * * * *

I woke up panting and heaving, trying my best to control my ragged breathing. The familiar night terrors came creeping back up as I slept. The memory of the blood on my face, the smell of it. The dream felt so real, too real. I ran into the bathroom, careful not to wake Lance as I did.

I looked into the mirror and saw a very familiar girl. Dark bags under my eyes, ghostly pale, haunted by the nightmares that plague every waking and sleeping minuet.

I closed my eyes and hung my head, trying to keep the sobs at bay. Unsuccessfully, tears leaked out of my eyes and ran down my cheeks. I sunk down to the floor and pulled my knees up to chest.

I had expected these feelings coming back in a couple months for the ten year anniversary but I wasn't ready to relive and rehash the past yet.

"Maci, love, are you alright?" Lance asked as he pushed open the bathroom door and found me curled up on the ground. He came towards me but I put up my hand to stop him. My whole body felt heavy like metal and the thought of being touched made me feel sick.

"What can I do for you?" He asked, squatting down by the door so we were at the same eye level.

I shook my head. "Nothing. You can't do anything." I said, sadly, wishing there was something that could take this pain away. Lance drove his hand through his hair.

"Do you want me to go then?" He asked quietly.

"NO! I..I ... just stay, okay? Talk to me, tell me a story. I want to hear your voice. Tell me something happy." He was quiet for a moment before walking over to me and sliding down the wall until he sat next to me, close but not touching.

"Um okay... There once was a beast, who was surrounded by people but always alone. He hated the world so he isolated himself, far up in his castle in the sky. Until one night, when an angel fell into his castle. Him, being his usual arsehole self, tried to scare her away and even called her a whore." I giggled, remembering the night we met.

"But this angel had a fiery temper on her, which surprised and intrigued the beast until the angel fainted on him. Then the beast did something that surprised the hell out of him, he took care of her while she was sick. He didn't want to want to but he did. He wanted her to wake up and be grateful to him. He wanted something as angelic as her to see him as more than just a beast but in normal beastly fashion he fucked that up too. When the beast finally convinced her to take a chance on him he was happier than he had ever been. As time went by he noticed that the angel was happy too, but that made the beast sad. For, the beast was cursed as a young boy... doomed to never love." He said quietly as the story took a sadder turn.

"The beast had always been fine with that thought, until the angel came along. She made him want things he had never wanted before." I stopped him, turning his face to mine and placing my lips on his. We broke apart slightly, keeping just our foreheads touching.

"The angel knew this and searched lands far and wide all the way up to the heavens for a cure." I whispered softly as I traced his jaw with my finger tips.

"Why would she do that?" He asked, his voice cracking. I paused, swallowing hard before answering.

"Because the angel was falling head over heels for the beast." He sighed, covering my hand with his, he turned his face to kiss my palm. "let's go to bed." I nodded and stood up with him. We climbed into bed, facing each other. I placed my hand on his cheek again, brushing the hair off his face.

"What happened next?" I asked softly.

"They lived happily ever after. They wed in a castle on a cliff over looking the sea, and eventually had hundreds of little angels running around." I smiled and scooted closer, our bodies flushed against each other.

"Wouldn't they be half beast, half angels?" I asked, playfully.

"Well angels can do amazing things." I scrunched up my face.

"I think it would be a lot more fun making them with the beast instead." Before I could even finish my sentence, Lance pulled me on top of him and rolled us so he was on top. He smiled down at me. "Now that you put it that way." I smiled up at him, turning my head to the side and kissing his arm.

"Maybe they are full angel... Maybe she can turn the beast into an angel." I whispered.

"I don't think that's possible."

"I do."
