There's Something on Mars

Chapter 1

The humans had now realised that Earth wasn't going to be around forever and needed to find a new pace to call home, they thought of Mars.

"Houston, we have made landing on the planet mars," announced Mike Bennet triumphently over the comms system.

"Thats great Mike, but we're not done yet, you still need to conduct your search for signs of life," replied the man in the houston headquarters.

"You got it Jim, i'll send Liam to do it right away,"

"ok, but dont take too long, we dont know if your suits will hold out for longer than 2 hours so dont waste anytime on sightseeing," said the man, now named as Jim.

"Roger that Houston, no sightseeing, over and out"

Back on Mars Liam, a young man new to the Mars space program, was unloading the scanning equipment from the ship just as Mike was coming over to him.

"I take it you heard that Liam, you're to conduct a search for life signs, oh and no sightseeing, apparently" informed Mike, the more experienced of the two astronauts.

"Ah well, at least we are here, i mean, isn't it beautiful"

"Hmm i suppose you're right, but we wont get to enjoy it if ou dont get those life scans done"

"Right ok then, i'll meet you here in one hours time"

So Liam picked up the scanning device and headed off north, although it was hard to tell which way is which on a planet you've never been on before.

After a while he came to a small formation of rocks, he lay the device down on the flat side of one of the rocks and begn to scan for signs of life, slowly moving around as he did so. The handheld part of the scanner was making a beeping noise every two or three seconds which ment no life detected. He stopped and stood still as he tried to make out earth in the deep vast space above his head.

"If only everybody else could see this, the wonder of it. Maybe then the violence and suffering would stop. If only they knew how lucky we are,"

This daydreaming was abruptley interupted by a rapid beeping coming from the scanner. He looked down at the screen which showed a fast moving dot approaching his position, in the reflection of his visor, out of the corner of his eye he couldmake out a shadowy figure,he span round on the spot only to see a creature of alien characetristics speeding towards him.

The creatures' skin was a dark maroon colour, but in places wasa dull yellow and green, it also seemed to have strips of metal built into its body, on its back and shoulders. It travelled on all fours but looked capable enough to stand on its hind legs. Its torso was muscley and firm but the rest of its body seemed thinner yet still powerful. It had a long, slim tail and similiar, but smaller, features on its back. Its deformed face resembled that of a lizards, with two fang like teeth which were sharp to the touch. With one red eye and the other a musky yellow. It had multiple scars on its face, assuming they were from fights with others of its kind.

He had managed to get Mike on comms.

"Mike, there's a thing, a creature heading towards me. It's going to kill me, the anger in its eyes, i can just tell. You've got to get off this planet incase there's more of these things," Liam warned him panickingly.

The beast was know pounding its way towards Liam, seemingly unaffected by the lack of gravity on the planet. But as soon as he had time to get a vague idea of what the thing lokked like it was too late. It had already lept at his throat and had started to shred at his suit, which was offering him no protection against the might of the aliens claws.

"Mike, get off this planet! Aaargggghhhhh.............." Liams comms had gone down.He was dead.
