I touched the spines of the assorted books, each toppled in a pile within the readers nook. The library was silent except the soft turning of pages and light breathing. Occasionally a shuffling noise would signal another person coming in but those who left seemed to disappear silently, as if they had come in tandem with the room.

I tugged at my turtle neck, I wasn't used to wearing so much clothing but the head librarian was always overheated and kept the place on par with the temperature of what felt like Antarctica. Despite the chill in the air people still flooded in, filling computer desks and study tables all around and adding to my work load.

It was not a complaint, I was happy for the extra work. Things could get slow there and I enjoyed being with the books, I would not have volunteered there if I hadn't. Not to mention I donated regularly to the building and to see it grow felt like my own personal accomplishment.

My hand reached out for the last misplaced magazine when someone tapped my shoulder. I turned to see over six feet of man. I smiled instinctively, my eyes assessing him with little effort. From the way he stood, his eyes shyly meeting mine and his hands clasped together, I could tell what he wanted.

He was good looking, his short blond hair was gelled back so that his ears slightly stuck out to frame his broad, tanned face. His green eyes were surrounded by long, surprisingly dark lashes that kissed his cheeks when he blinked. The green t-shirt only made his irises pop more, a brown leather jacket pulled over giving him an almost bad-boy look despite his honest face. When I turned his hands had retreated from their clasped position and found shelter in the pockets of his dark denim jeans. I looked to his feet dressed in worn, black sneakers. They were large, very nice.

"Hey" He finally said nervously, his full lips drawn in a quirky half grin.

"Hellooo...?" I drew out the vowel, letting my tongue peek out a moment innocently.

"Oh, I'm Clint."

"Clint? That seems to be one letter away from something very unlike you. How can I help you?" I said as lightly as possible, his confused expression giving his thoughts away, unsure whether I had actually meant what that sounded like.

"Um, actually I was wondering if you needed any help, uh, with that?"

"Yes, this one magazine is very heavy" I took his arm and pulled it away from his pocket, putting the magazine in his hand. "It goes in the woman’s section on the magazine rack."

"I guessed, but where would that be?" He pulled my attention back, as I tried to walk away. I did not bother to twist back to face him but instead pointed vaguely behind him. "Uh, would you mind showing me there?"

"Then I might as well put it away myself" I turned this time, resting my hand where some anorexic model lay pouting on the magazine's cover.

"Then I can keep you company" Clint took my side, unwilling to take no for an answer. I walked along him expertly, cutting through the aisles like butter, reaching our destination in no time.

"So you didn't mention your name?" Clint half chuckled, trying to relieve the tension he felt.

"No I didn't."

"Yeah, okay" Clint frowned minimally and I returned his chuckle.

"My name is Ty" his expression brightened instantly, somewhat reminding me of a puppy.

"Cool, actually Ty I was wondering if you would like to grab dinner sometime?" I blanked. I had not expected him to ask that so suddenly and my cheeks flushed, something very rare for someone like me to do.

"Oh, hon, I think you got me wrong..."

"O-oh...I'm sorry, I didn't realize you weren't, well that's awkward."

"Oh, I am" I added quickly, the last thing I wanted to do was damage his gaydar. One misstep and that could really wreck someones confidence. "It's just I can't."

"You're seeing someone?"

"No."

"I'm not your type?"

"Oh, nothing like that, your gorgeous, no worries there" I patted his shoulder, feeling stupid. I hated when things like this got to me, or rather when I had to turn down a good guy because, well, I wasn't.

"Then what's the problem?"

"I don't even know you, why do you care?" I crossed my arms. So did Clint. I rolled my eyes, holding back a laugh. I had mistakenly used an old flirting trick, fold your arms and if the person your interested in does the same he's most likely interested too.

"Because I want to."

"That's hard to argue against" I raised my brows disapprovingly, his own mirroring mine.

"Yep, I guess you don't have a choice."

"Except to walk away" I gave a semi-nod and did so. I half-expected him to grab my shoulder or follow, but when I finally stopped in the children's section I was alone with an assemblage of chattering women and kids.
