''Hey honey where are my chips?'' his voice grows more cruel as he continued ''Ey you slag are you deaf?'' Her mind piecing her thoughts together as she heard the shouts from the Russian soldier sitting at the bar. The aggravation of another man telling her what to do, make the memories she did her best to block out come back. She despised men. All of them. Even the good ones. Even the ones good for her. ''Sorry sir,'' Barely able to hold in her urge to jump across the bar to beat him senseless. '' I just gotta pick up the rest of this broken glass''. Her accent foreign, not pure. It made sense, she wasn’t from around there. She came from far away, where the snow blinded the eyes of the people around her.

Haile Demidov was born on Christmas day, in a little isolated village called Svadensaula, Russia. Though she was born a healthy baby her lengthy and complicated labor put too much strain on her mother’s womb and Haile was to be the first and only child.

The village was fairly small and simple. Church, A little market and home like any small town on the outskirts of Moscow. Except there was evil in this place. A spot of evil tainting the beauty of this beautiful piece of land.

Haile’s birth brought changes to her deeply religious family. Her father, John, had found it hard to come to terms with the fact he would never have a son he always wanted. In his eyes, God had punished him and his wife with a daughter. And that punishment was to be passed on.

As soon as she was able to speak, Haile was taught to pray. And pray she did. Three times a day, naked in the corner, kneeling on shattered pieces of glass.

As time went by, John Demidov’s bitterness grew. He used his faith as a hiding place for his anger and little Haile was always at the receiving end of it all. During her Childhood, her skins was mostly black and blue.

When it came to looks, Haile took after her mother, with a delicate heart-shaped face, plush pink lips, big hypnotic eyes and long, wavy brown hair. At thirteen, she was taller than most girls her age and her womanly body was developing fast.

John saw Haile’s beauty as a new test from God. She was already attracting the attention of the older boys and John knew that it was only a matter of time before she gave into temptation and sin. He had to teach her right from wrong as if he were the right hand of God.

The teachings started just after her thirteenth birthday. Twice a week her mother would work the night shift at a twenty four hour charity soup kitchen. Haile dreaded those nights. In the darkness of her room, she would curl up in bed and pray, but now God would listen. Time and time again she had to endure her father hammering his sweaty body against hers, showing her what boys wanted to do to her.

She started blankly at the man sitting across the bar, visualizing her father. His smirk taunting her. His eyes just as evil as her father was. As if they asking her to crawl into a corner and beg like a helpless lamb to the slaughter. She tightly squeezed on the last piece of glass that was left trying to hold back the urge to climb across the bar and slowly slit this man’s throat.  Her self-control was not enough.
