Becoming a morning person does not just happen naturally unless you’re hyper-addicted to coffee and simply don’t sleep at all. In order to become a morning person, I trained myself and had some serious self-motivation, as well as having a job based out of Boston while living in LA. The first few weeks of setting my alarm clock for 6 AM was absolutely brutal and actually getting out of bed by 6:45 was just not happening. So, I had to change a few things. First, I started by getting in bed around 8:30 PM or 9:00 and I turned off all electronics which greatly helped. Second, I told myself every morning when my alarm went off to immediately get up and splash my face with water instead of pressing snooze six or seven times. Like I said, I had to train myself to become a morning person and let me tell you, I have seen and lived the benefits.

First, by starting your day early you are giving your mind the time it needs to wake up and start functioning earlier. You are able to get more done throughout the day. Don’t get me wrong, it still takes me about thirty minutes to understand what is happening in the world around me before I am able to become a working human. But when I get out of bed at 6 AM by 7:00 I am fully up and at it and able to have almost all of my work done by 3:00, which gives myself the rest of the day to relax, work out, and do what I got to do for myself, which brings me to my second point.

Secondly, no matter if you work at 10 AM or 6 AM, you are opening up at least four hours of your day for yourself. With these four hours, you can get your work out in, your overdue phone calls to your relatives and friends, and even meal prep so that way on Sunday you don’t have to worry while you lie in bed all day.

Waking up at the crack of dawn may not sound appealing by any means, but I promise if you try it for a week you’ll start feeling differently. You get to see the sunrise as well as the sunset. You get some time to yourself and by the time the clock strikes 8 PM you don’t feel guilty about switching on your favorite show and getting into bed. I’m not saying it’s for everyone, but the benefits are there, and your work and mood will show that!
