Chapter 1

A children's home was not what Michael, Sam, Aron or Paul had ever imagined they would end up in, but here they were. Michael was the eldest at twelve, two years older since the day he had been taken from his alcoholic and drug taking parents home and into care. The other three came from similar backgrounds and had become the best of friends with Michael in this god forsaken place.

Sam was ten, Aron nine and Paul also nine. This place was called a care home? Michael huffed to himself, not likely! There was no care in this place, sure they bathed and fed the children, kept them warm, but it was cold and clinical to the children. There were no warm cuddles goodnight, no kisses or tenderness, no bedtimes stories. This was not a place where love existed.

"Michael, Michael! Tell us that story again!" The other three chimed loudly together once the boys were all tucked in their beds for the night.
Sighing but smiling Michael sat up in his bed of plain white sheets and began. "Once upon a time, there was a magical boy called Peter Pan. He could fly and would often travel across to our land to bring children back to his own magical world, for you see, Peter was very lonely in a world where you never grew up!"

He spoke of the story for a while more. The old but favourite story of children worldwide comforting to them all as they imagined how it would feel for such a story to be real, to have a magical place invite them in, a place where children never grew up, had adventures and could play to their hearts content, a place to belong...but it wasn't to be, for such things did not exist in real life, and so as the story ended they all took a collective sigh of wistfulness and disappointment and allowed their dreams to be their only outlet.

Later that night, unbeknown to the boys they all dreamed the same dream. Peter Pan whisking them off to a place of magic and excitement. A loud thump woke Michael up at some point during the night. His heart was pounding in his chest furiously as he looked to where the noise had come from and saw that the window to their bedroom was wide open, a blizzard of wind gusting inside and making him shiver against the cold winter night.

Slowly he made his way toward the window, and although he knew it was cliche he couldn't resist sticking his head out looking out and down To the streets below. There was nothing, he was almost disappointed, but when he turned and looked up outside just to be certain he almost had a heart attack!
There was a huge black shadow with red empty eyes staring down at him. Yanking his head back inside he ran and jumped onto Sam's bed shaking him awake and waking the others up.
"What you doing?" They mumbled sleepily. Immediately they all woke right up and sat bolt up right in their beds as the shadow came inside of the room and loomed before them.

It didn't speak out loud, but they could hear it inside of their heads. A dark rumbling voice it whispered, "you speak of me everyday and you dream of me every night. You wish to live with me in my land where you never need grow up. I have heard your prayers to me for a long time now."
Fear slowly became shock until shock finally started to become excitement. "You're Peter Pan!" Sam hissed.
The shadow nodded slowly and then held out its hand toward them, "come, I will take you from this horrid place and teach you to fly."

The boys, so desperate for such a story to be true no longer feared or worried how this thing looked, and like children so often do, they gave it their full trust and took it's outstretched hands.
They all held hands and stood a top the window sill, they were a little nervous being so high, but they didn't have time to dwell because the next thing they knew the shadow was yanking them off the ledge and up high into the sky.

The city streets blurred below them as they flew. It was incredible and they couldn't help from giggling and laughing in joy. They were flying over the ocean when the shadow started pulling them down towards it.
Fear engulfed them as they all thought they had been tricked by a demon and now were going to be drowned. Michael squeezed his eyes tight along with the others and waited for his impending doom.

A few minutes had passed and they were still flying? Slowly opening their eyes one by one they saw a magnificent island ahead. Michael had heard of the Bermuda Triangle and realised with delight that they must have entered one! The sun was shining bright here, the island a vibrant green full of trees and grass and beautiful blues of lakes and streams.

The shadow dropped them onto land harshly and vanished from sight. Where had it gone? Michael wondered getting up from the dirt floor and dusting himself of like the others.
"Never mind the shadow. I ripped it from my body long ago. So... how do you like neverland boys?" They all jumped at the sound of the voice.

They spun around and saw, right there, up on the ledge, another  boy standing on a huge rock looking down at them.
Their big wide eyes of fear and confusion made him smirk. They stared in awe when he jumped down landing
in front of them. "Let me introduce myself," he smiled, "I am Peter Pan!"
