My Letter To Love.
Dear Love,
I have been around, that’s good and bad,
but lately you’ve left me a little unhappy and sad.
In the past you have filled me with beauty, compassion and awe,
And I see things more clearly, and some I never saw.
Why do you leave when the going gets tough?
How do you know when enough is enough?
I hope that you stay, and live in our home,
and forget all the yelling, when you do come.
Could you prop up my emptiness with a hug and a kiss?
My long hours of working make it all the harder to miss.
Let my partner at home keep the light on for me,
Keep the darkness at bay until it’s me she can see.
Could you hold my wife’s hand, when she’s alone in our bed?
let her know love is with her, I wish it were me instead.
Fill our children’s hearts with wonder, and make their eye’s full of light,
may they only see optimism, hope and what’s right.
And Love can you help to take away my wife’s sorrow,
at the loss of her mother, help her to see a bright tomorrow.
Hold our family together with snuggles and tickles,
make our kids eat the foodstuffs at which they are fickle.
Our parents and siblings need a dose of you too,
Is there an injection they can get, like you do with the flu?
I cry alone at the wheel of my truck,
with headlight’s pointing homeward, with any luck.
Say a little prayer Love, for all men with the same life,
We’re tired and alone too, just to get home to our wives.
Kindest regards, ‘Big Burly’.
P.S. I know your busy Love,
But can you fix my radio too?

oooh, I love this!! it snagged at my heart. how tiresome and lonely being on the road must be. alone with only your thoughts can be a dangerous thing. and then not even a radio to drown out the noise our thoughts make. just love it
Aww this was so sweet and so heart felt with truth. We all write these sorts of letters with our hearts hoping that they get through and are not returned to sender. Thanks soucj for sharing! Loved every funny and beautiful word. :)
Well, this is sweet, 'Big Burly'. I really like the inferred personification of love, by virtue of you addressing love directly in your poem. The rhyme is excellent. The poem is a prayer in and of itself. Separation is hard to deal with. Love is the strength and the cord that binds. You should show this to your 'love' on V-Day!
Then I'd like to see it....often!
