Preface

“Liem, you are charged with breaking the forbidden rule of loving a mortal. You stand before us with tangible proof of your forbidden adulterous concern.”

The sycophantic angels and lower creatures all turned to stare at Liem. With only the small raiment covering around his hips nothing shielded his fecund figure. Bravely he stood tall and willed himself to stay strong.

“As punishment for you egregious sin, you are to be expelled from Heaven, never to return.”

Liem breathed an inaudible sigh of relief.

“However, we cannot allow the darkness within you in our kingdom. Before this council has you removed from Heaven, you will be relieved of your burden.” “You will have no memory of your beloved mortal, and you will have to fight your demons.”

“We have decided to do you a great deed. Find the lost child of Aphrodite and keep her safe. If you can keep her from the other fallen ones, then, and only then, will you be allowed back into the kingdom.

***

Kneeling at the edge of the ravine, his once brilliant white wings are now dark as charcoal, even his raiment has turned dark. His, once again slim, figure is marred only by an intricate design encircling his upper arm. Beautiful to the average onlooker, to Liem however, it is the most hideous disfigurement. It is the mark of a fallen angel and an eternal reminder of the one thing he just couldn’t piece together from his past.

Shoulder-length, silken, raven hair, eyes that resembled the shimmering ocean waters on a full moon’s night. His features were nothing less than magnificent but he could pass through a crowded street and remain unnoticed. How is this possible? Surely someone so lovely would be gazed upon as much as possible. Liem's sorrow was so great that it overwhelmed his beauty and engulfed him like a black hole.
