My name is Arthur and I am fourteen years old. I live on the 500 acre manor of lord Andy and lady Dani who rule over Quincyshire. I am the son of the serfs Francis and Thea, along with my siblings Rochelle and Rogerson. We live in a small house with few belongings and few valuables, we sleep on straw mattresses on the floor, we usually sleep in the clothes we work in and cover ourselves with animal skin to sleep. Since my parents are peasants I will be a peasant for the rest of my life, working the fields and answering to the commands of lord Andy and lady Dani. Lately my family has been faced with many difficulties, the death of three infant siblings has put much strain on my mother and father. I am lucky that my mother is alive because she has almost died during childbirth numerous times. Life as a peasant involves working in the fields, family devotions and a strong faith. Everyday except Sunday my family and I wake before the sun and go to start our days work in the fields. The most important job on the manor is taking care of The Lord and ladies fields. We work on the demense until the land in order provide produce for the manor. The work is hard because we do not have access to plows and horses to till the land. After working the land my father, brother and I tend to the horses and cattle to make they are cleaned, fed and trained. Even after we work on the land for our lord and the lady our work is still not done. Now we must work on our own parts of the land to eat. If time allows, we also fish and hunt to complete the meal my mother and sister will make for us. While my mother and sister are cooking we work on building furniture to sell to other peasants to earn a living. Each day is a difficult one so we go to bed early to prepare for the next day of hard work. Family is what makes my life as a peasant tolerable. Family dinner is the one time of the day where my siblings, mother, father and I get together. Since we have to work so much it is hard to make time for other social events with neighbors and extended family. Twice a year we do get the opportunity to spend time with friends and extended family when lord Andy and lady Dani hold the spring and winter festivals. As a thank you for all our hard work the festivals host different games and entertainment and also a feast. Other than family dinner and festivals a few times a year life as a serf is very mundane. Everyday we preform the same tasks and pray that God will gives good health and happiness. Just as tending the fields is extremely important, it is also important to tend to our faith every Sunday and every feast day. Each Sunday we go to mass to receive communion and listen to the sermon given by father Walter. Each week his sermons encourage us to make moral decisions and live a life of faith. After church we receive a few hours of religious education where we practice our reading and writing. We also prepare ourselves for the sacraments. Our faith is really important and helps us get through the hard times of the serf life. Although my life won't change drastically in the next 2 years I hope to have a wife by then. My parents have arranged with another family for me to marry their daughter Rose. We hope to have children someday. I can only dream of becoming a member of a higher society such as a knight or a lord. Thankfully my family and my faith with carry me through.
