He heard her sniffling quietly in the corner, all huddled up into herself. When she saw him approaching she hurriedly swiped away at her at tears.

“Come here, baby,” he said, sitting next to her on the bed. She shook her head, refusing to scoot any closer. In fact, she might even decide to scoot away. Yes, she thought, if he meant to touch her then she would definitely move away.

She wouldn’t look up at him. He sighed in frustration. He wanted to see her eyes! No--he needed to see her beautiful eyes. They took his breath away. Every. Damn. Time. He lived for those clandestine looks she gave him that said that even if they were in a room filled to the brim with people she’d always seek him out and be able to find him. Because nobody could make those brown eyes light up like he could. But, she hated her eyes. No, they weren’t brown--she refused to call them something so tiresome. They were topaz (but really they were brown--kind of plain even, though he would never tell her that).

Ughhh, enough! His fingertips brushed her chin, tilting her face up to meet his gaze. She gave a half hearted attempt to pull away. He was having none of that. Finally, she gave in and fell into his embrace.

“I don’t want you to go, Zack,” she sniffled into his chest.

“Then I won’t go,” Zack replied, matter-of-factly. With that last comment she sat up stiffly and gave him a glare.
