Jane Fowler was walking back home from her tennis training one Saturday evening. Her house was located almost near a thick forest. Her mother always forbid her not to be wandering around close to the forest but of course Jane would not listen. That evening, Jane asked her tennis playmate, Linda , to accompany her to go to the forest with an excuse to explore the forest to find specimen for her Science project. At first, Linda disagreed to do so, but after Jane pleading her with her puppy eyes, Linda at last gave in.

It was a very bright day when the sun shines brighter than usual as it was usually cloudy with no rain. It was Sunday and Jane woke up early when she suddenly felt out of sort. She walked lifelessly to the kitchen and saw her mother, Mrs Fowler, finished preparing breakfast for the day. Jane’s mother saw her came up and said, “You’re not your usual self today. Are you okay honey?’’

Jane flashed her a faint smile and said, ‘’I’m okay, I guess. Maybe it is from yesterday.”

For the past three weeks, Jane was forced to perform the best in her tennis training as the tennis competition was just around the corner.

“Maybe you should take it easy for a while. I’ll call your tennis coach to call off your training for today”, said her mother.

Jane nodded her head slowly and went to the nearest stool to sit when all of a sudden, she was strucked by a wave of headache. Jane’s hand quickly reached to her head and massaging it rapidly with the intention to decrease the pain. Unfortunately, her headache took a turn for the worse as she felt her head was going to split into two.

“What’s wrong dear?” asked Mrs Fowler in concern and worry.

“I don’t know. I felt like I want to throw up.” replied Jane.

“I think we should go and check with the doctor. It’s better safe than sorry. Come, let me help you out”. Mrs Fowler helped Jane to get off her stool. Jane nearly keeled over across the thick carpet in the living room but luckily her mother caught her just in the nick of time to prevent Jane from face landing on the floor.

Upon reaching the car, Jane already was close to pass out as the pain in the head, nausea and the latest, she felt numbness in her limbs were all in one at once. Jane tried to pull herself together to avoid her from passing out. Then, she sat at the backseat of the car and still in her pajama, her mother started the engine and drove to the nearest clinic.

The clinic didn’t had many patients today so it was easy for Jane to get to the doctor soon enough with the help of her mother. While waiting for her turn at the waiting room, Jane noticed her hands and legs had swollen up as they grew into an abnormal size. A lot of emotion filled through Jane’s mind. Fear, shocked, confused are all in one at once. She cannot figure out what was happening to her. The last thing she remember was her mother shouting to call the doctor and nurses before she passed out.

Jane regain her conscious after a beam of light penetrating her half opened eyelids. She slowly opened her eyes wider and wondered them around before realising that she was lying flat on her back on somekind of an experiment table. She tried to sit up but could not because she was tied tightly to the table. She suddenly recalled back that she was supposed to meet the doctor to check about her sudden illness. “Where is mom? What happened here? Why am I being tied?” All the questionings in her head were left unsolved. Somehow, the thing was, she felt the pain in her head had wore off a bit but her hands and legs were still swollen after looking at her own reflection in the mirror beside the table she was lying at.

Jane lifted her head a little higher to see her surrounding and clearly heard voices speaking in a language Jane did not understand which made her realised somebody or something was approaching her. Then she heard one of the voices said, “Well, well, well. The sleeping beauty was wide awake.” Jane turned her head to the voice to see who was speaking and had a shock of her life. There were three flower-like creatures staring directly at her!

Jane gasped in horror as her eyes went wide to see the strange creatures started to laugh maniacly at her. In her stammered voice, Jane blurted out all the questions which kept repeating in her mind. “Who are you?! Where am I? What are you doing to me?!”

To her dismay, the creatures burst out to the most maniac laugh Jane ever heard before. After leaving Jane with her most quizzical look, one of the creature with hands-like-petal and stigma popping out of its head said in a harsh but calm tone, ‘’ Don’t tell me you do not know what disaster you had done.”

Jane flashed the creature with even more puzzled look. “What are you talking about?! What disaster had I done? I demand you to let me go right now!” shrieked Jane losing her temper.

The second creature with legs like root of a tree slapped Jane hard in her face and shouted in a blast of fury, ‘’Hey! How dare you talk like that to our King!”

That was an unexpected touch-and-go!

“That would teach you how to behave yourself.” said the third creature. The third one had a head like grape with tendrils on its side.

“What King! Really, what are you talking about?!” said Jane sounding fear in her sobs. Her pale face turned as red as a tomato after the slap. This time, there was a sound of defeat in her voice after knowing they really meant business.

“Are you familiar with any of our features?” the first creature known as the King asked back. Jane tried to recalled back where she had seen those kind of features. A sudden flick of her memory replayed in her mind!

Looking back, in the forest, Linda and Jane discovered three weird plants they had never seen before. Jane suddenly had an idea to pluck those plants for her Science project. She thought that her teacher might be impress and she may pass with flying colours on her Science project by presenting the real specimen of the weird plant for her presentation.

As she bent to pluck the strange looking plant, Linda blurted out saying, “Wait, shouldn’t you check it out first before you even touch it. It may be poisonous you know.”

“Oh, don’t be such a chicken Linda. It were just plants. Small little plants.” said Jane mockingly.

“Fine, suit yourself then. Hopefully nothing weird will happen to you. Touch wood.” Linda simply touch the tree bark in front of her.

“Now you remember?!”, barked the King shaking off Jane’s thought. Jane was back to reality after the rude awakening. “For your information, we are the old species plant. We lived only in quiet and damp places. Our population decreases suprisingly as the result of you humans doing, destroying our habitat. Now, you also wanted to destroy us only for your science project. You humans never appreciate nature. I have no other option but to turn you like one of us as well.”

“No!!! I’m sorry!! Please don’t do this to me!! Please, I’m begging you!” screamed Jane struggling to break free. The creatures approached Jane slowly. Closer and closer until Jane could feel tendrils poking her face which was now turn as white as sheet.

Suddenly, Jane’s shoulder was shook hard. Jane immediately opened her eyes. She saw her mother was shaking her with a worried face. “Thank god you are okay. I was worried when you passed out and you even screamed histerically all of a sudden, so you were rushed to hospital immediately.” Mrs Fowler quickly explained.

Although Jane was still in a state of shock, Jane felt relieved that the nightmare had gone. According to the doctor who treated her, the syndrome she had been experiencing was because of long period of allergie but deep in Jane’s heart, only she knows what really happened.  After Jane was released from the hospital the next day, Jane quickly checked the plants she plucked from the forest two days ago and planted them back to their original place. From that day onwards, Jane made a vow to herself not to repeat the same mistake and learn to respect nature. She even turned over a new leaf and be an obedient daughter to her mother.
