A song I'm working on...

Make it Rain

I'm sipping Jimmy Beam
I see you walking in
You're filling out those jeans
the way that God intends
I follow close behind
I'm smelling your cologne
You've got my devil mind
just praying you're alone

Make it rain!  Make it rain
where the sun don't shine
Baby, pelt my window pane
till you blow my mind
Pick me up; lay me down
like a straight line wind
You'll love the way I sound
as I kiss you when
you make it rain

You're standing by the bar
They're playing Brooks & Dunn
I think it's quite bizarre
that you're not with someone
I tap you on the sleeve
'Would you buy me a drink?'
You ask me what I need
but all I do is think

Make it rain!  Make it rain
where the sun don't shine
Baby, pelt my window pane
till you blow my mind
Pick me up; lay me down
like a straight line wind
You'll love the way I sound
as I kiss you when
you make it rain

You walk me to my car
I'm tugging on your belt
The clouds are rolling in
and I'm about to melt
We pull up to my place
The lightning splits the sky
You ask me how I taste
and that's when I reply

Make it rain!  Make it rain
where the sun don't shine
Baby, rock my window pane
till you blow my mind
Pick me up; lay me down
like a straight line wind
You'll love the way I sound
as I kiss you when
you make it rain
  make it rain
where the sun don't shine
conjure up a hurricane
while we bump and grind
Pick me up; lay me down
like a straight line wind
Don't be afraid to drown
with that sexy grin
so make it rain
make it rain
make it rain

Baby the rain must fall
Baby the wind must blow
Where ever my heart leads me
Baby I must go...

I've heard that song, J. There are so many songs about the rain that it's cliché to even write about it. Still, here's another. If you've ever heard Eddie Rabbit's "I Love a Rainy Night", and not fallen into a deep coma over the repetition, you should be thankful.

I think Glenn was just providing a meteorological explanation for his lack of devotion. When you break it down, it's kind of weak. My guess is that he misinterpreted why his weather vane was pointing north...

I am digging the hell out of this. Is there a specific tune you're working with? I want to actually hear it.

So, I'm wondering if "thunder" is the best word choice or why you chose it? Cause "lightning" would actually give the visual of the sky splitting.

First, thank you for that encouragement! Yes, there's a raw tune. This is weird because most song writers start with the tune and then put in the words. I start with lyrics.

There is no specific reason for 'thunder' and I totally get what you're saying about the visual. That might be worth changing and I'm glad you mentioned it. It interests me how words and phrases effect the reader. I think the subliminal reason I chose thunder was the idea of it rattling the window pane - which is part of the refrain, obviously.

I love 'double meanings' with sexual innuendos in music. That's my purpose behind 'rain' here. There are some other parts that are more direct. It could be a little warm for prime time country. I can definitely see a producer wanting to edit a few things if they seriously wanted to give this some Nashville air. Country music has come a long way, but they are still a hell of lot more conservative than Rock. If you're doing Alternative Rock, you can pretty much say anything you want.

The problem with this piece in general (as far as country music - even pop country) is that it depicts casual sex as standard and acceptable. That's gonna be issue number one right off the bat, I can tell you. So this is cutting edge, and we ain't to that edge yet. Country music is still about love and relationships...a cowboy doesn't walk up and sing, "I want to fuck you like an animal". Not happening.

When I was in Nashville - did I tell you about my trip to Nashville with my hubby? - Anyway, I was sitting in a bar by my lonesome while waiting on my hubby and his 'friend' when I had a couple guys come sit with me and offer me a 'ride'. Very interesting. Practically everyone you meet in an upscale environment there is involved with country music. These guys basically told me they were producers, and we did have some small talk about the process. The small talk moved very quickly, however, to more serious matters during which (after I graciously declined their ride offer) I learned how the two of them picked up women together. It was like having a gambler show you his hand. Once my hubby arrived with his buddy, I couldn't help but watch those two circle the bar and mingle. Remind me to tell you how that works.

A cowboy may not walk up and say that, but that'd be hot as hell. You never told me that story. If you don't PM me later, I'll remind you.

Well, that's just a small piece of a massive Nashville experience, the shock waves from which we are still recovering. That quote was from "Nine Inch Nails" as I'm sure you recognize.

Very creative and fun, you’ll bring them on the run!
Your rain’s a goal to win, though it would be a sin...
To loosen up your gates, spank, tie, or masterbates;
T’would really split your bun, a wiener-dog home-run!

I think we need to get you a cowboy hat and some boots, Spy. You need a vacation from the coast. I've got your ride right here..

All that rain could create a flood. Very erotic and imaginative poem.

It actually is a song, Ify. That's a very astute observation. It's country pop.
Thanks for checking it out!

My pop country song...sort of popular down here in the south. I don't know if you guys listen to much country music in the UK. This is a little suggestive for country music, but it's getting wilder.
