Why was life such a bitch sometimes? Nate was a YouTuber, but his channel, unfortunately, didn't have many subscribers, at least not as many as he'd like. He had 48,000 subs, which was a lot, yes, but not enough to make a sweet fortune like big box YouTubers such as Shane Dawson and PewDiePie. He wanted to be that famous, but how? He didn't have enough money to travel, not even road trips, so travel vlogging was a no no. Despite having graduated from film school, NYU to be exact, he didn't have the success many of his professors had told him he would.

Nate sighed, clenching his fists. Here he was, at home, doing nothing, thinking of what he could do other than upload videos to YouTube every day in the hopes that he'd make it big. His channel consisted of mostly true crime cases as well as paranormal ones, and the occasional video about what are the best vlogging cameras, the best cameras for photography, how to get into film school, etc. He noticed that gaming channels usually made it big, but he hated video games, so again, that was a no no. He made money from YouTube, yes, but not much, and his wife, Laurel, who was a makeup artist at MAC, did not make much money either.

He and Laurel had been a couple in high school but broke up once they went off to college. Nate went off to NYU, and Laurel stayed in their hometown, Tampa Bay, to study cosmetology at the Aveda Institute. Nate had wanted to leave Florida for his entire life. It's not that he disliked Tampa, he liked it, but he was an adventurous soul that wanted to experience life in other places. Unfortunately, he did not make enough money to stay in New York, so he was forced to go back home. He reunited with Lauren and decided to marry her and now they were living in a studio apartment in downtown Tampa.

The door to their studio flew open, and in walked Laurel, looking pissed. Nate was used to it, but this time she looked especially pissed. She threw some envelopes at him, angry.

"I don't know how many more times I have to tell you, or what I have to do, but you need to get a fucking job. A real job." She spat, slamming her car keys onto the counter of their kitchenette.

"Laurel, come on. You know I've been applying everywhere but no luck." Nate raised his hands defensively.

"Where is 'everywhere'? Nate, I don't care if you end up working at fucking McDonald's, just get a goddamned job, okay? You can't keep sitting at home uploading videos and relying on uncertain paychecks from YouTube." Laurel said, crossing her arms, annoyed.

"Hey, most of my videos get more than a thousand views. That means I make about nine dollars per video. Believe me, Laurel, I make a fair amount to keep us afloat, even if it's just barely." Nate crossed his own arms.

"You don't get it, do you? I'm sick and tired of living like this!" Laurel shouted. "I don't want to keep living barely, I want us to make enough money to go out, even if it's just for a fucking movie, but we can't even do that because of all the bills and your college debt."

"Hey! Look, I'm tired of living like this too, okay? Do you honestly think I enjoy our current living conditions? Hell no! I want to go back to New York, or some other place, I want to travel, I want to do so many things and can't." Nate said, exasperated.

"Just get a job." Is all Laurel said before walking into the bathroom.

Nate sighed, feeling frustrated. It was like this almost every day. Their marriage was falling apart and he knew it. It was falling apart not because they didn't get along, or because their families didn't agree on their marriage, it was falling apart because of money. It all came down to money. Sometimes Nate wondered if Laurel still loved him, because he still loved her, even if she was being a pain in the ass right now. It was getting late, so he changed into his pajamas and went into the bathroom after Laurel to brush his teeth. When he came back out he snuggled in next to his wife, and whispered, "Laurel, do you still love me?"

Laurel faced him, frowning. "What kind of question is that?"

"Just answer honestly." Nate sighed.

"Of course I do!" She hissed. "Why are you asking?"

"Because all we do lately is fight." Nate replied, staring at the ceiling.

"Nate, I'm just stressed, okay? If you want to reduce my stress, get a job." Laurel snapped.

"Okay. I'll go job hunting tomorrow. I promise." Nate whispered as his eyes drooped.

The following day Laurel went to work as usual, and Nate started getting ready to go job hunting. He was about to leave when a knock on the door stopped him. He looked through the peephole and it was their landlord, Jerry Sanders. Nate opened the door, surprised.

"Hey! Listen, I have some very bad news." Mr. Sanders started, and a knot formed at the pit of Nate's stomach.

"The rent has gone up." Jerry blurted, and Nate widened his eyes.

"What?" He hissed.

"Listen, man, it's out of my control. Apparently the property value has gone up, because it's in downtown, and many rich businessmen have expressed interest in residence here." Jerry said apologetically.

Nate shook his head, disbelieved. He and Laurel could hardly live by as they were, how on Earth were they supposed to live now that the rent was going up? If they didn't want to lose their home they'd have to sell one of their cars, maybe both, and God forbid that they'd have to move back in with either of their parents.

"I'm really sorry." Jerry said and walked away.

Nate clenched his fists, grabbing his car keys and heading out. He'd get that job no matter what. Downtown was always packed with traffic, but Nate didn't care. He needed to get a job and quickly. He could apply at RadioShack, at Barnes & Noble, anywhere. He first stopped at RadioShack, but they weren't hiring at the moment. He went to Barnes & Noble, and they were hiring, but only for part-time. Nate figured that this would do for now. Between YouTube and this, they could make it. He didn't mind selling his car either. He could use public transport easily without problems.

"You can apply online or here, whatever you prefer." Jessica, the bookseller tending to him, said.

"I'll apply online. How long does it usually take for one to receive a phone call from you?" Nate asked.

"About a week or two." Jessica replied.

"Okay. I'll apply online." Nate decided.

"Good. We'll call you if you qualify." Jessica smiled.

Nate drove back home feeling hopeful. He grabbed his MacBook Air and went on the Barnes & Noble website immediately. The only job available was a part-time job at the cafe. Nate had no experience making coffee, but he'd learn, and fast. He also applied at Best Buy and Target. When he was in college, he'd worked at a record store and at his school's bookstore part-time to help pay the other half of his tuition. Nate had gotten a scholarship to NYU, but it was a partial one, which means he had to pay the other half of his tuition. His parents had helped him a bit as well. As he finished out his applications, his phone buzzed.

He had a text message from an old buddy of his from college, Chris Henderson.

Chris: Hey bruh

Nate: What's up?

Chris: You won't believe what just happened

Nate: What?

Chris: Remember that girl in our film direction class, Abby?

Nate: Yeah. What about her?

Chris: She became a pornstar *laughing crying emoji*

Nate: No way *shocked emoji*

Chris: I'm serious! Go look her up on porn hub.

Nate: Is her name Abby on there or does she have a pornstar name?

Chris: She's called Wendy Featherston

Nate: Ok, imma look her up

Nate put his phone away and went on PornHub, a site he frequently visited when he was in high school, beginning college. He typed in 'Wendy Featherston', and there she was. Abby, a classmate of his, selling her body to the public. Nate gulped, clicking one of her videos. It wasn't a porn scene, but rather an interview. He didn't feel comfortable watching a former classmate get fucked. The interview was about Abby's decision to do porn and other random questions related to the porn industry.

Hello, everyone! It's Mikey Benz here and today I am joined by the lovely and sexy Wendy Featherston! So, Wendy, tell me, what made you start porn?

Wendy: Well, if I am to be completely honest, I started porn so I can pay off my college debt, but now that I'm in, I can genuinely say I enjoy it *smiles*

Mikey: Nice! Yeah, college debts are harsh, man.

Wendy: They are. Thankfully porn earns me enough money *laughs*

Mikey: *Laughs too* Indeed it does, and what was your first porn scene?

Wendy: My first porn scene was a lesbian scene actually. I shared the scene with the lovely and super hot Nikki Baccio.

Mikey: Nice! And what-

Nate clicked out of the video, biting his lip, as an insane idea occurred to him. What if he, like Abby, became a pornstar? Laurel would kill him, and probably divorce him, but what she didn't know didn't hurt her, right? Nate mentally slapped himself. What was he thinking? He couldn't do that to Laurel. Unless... nooo! No, no, no... He was thinking that maybe he and Laurel could do porn together, as in, do porn videos just the two of them. It sounded like a good idea, but Laurel would slap him if he suggested this to her. Then again, it didn't hurt to try.

It darkened soon and Laurel came home exhausted, and to ease her stress, Nate had cooked her dinner. He had made her her favorite Italian dish: gnocchi.

"What is this?" Laurel asked, a smile spreading on her lips.

"Dinner." Nate replied simply, a smile on his face.

Laurel kissed him, and sat down, as Nate served the food. It smelled amazing.

"I got a text from Chris, my buddy from NYU." Nate started.

"Oh? And what's up with him?" Laurel asked, curious.

"Apparently our former classmate, Abby Simpson, became a pornstar." Nate revealed.

Laurel nearly choked on her food. "What?"

"Yup! It was crazy." Nate shrugged.

"Please don't tell me you looked her up." Laurel narrowed her eyes at Nate.

"Of course not!" He lied. "Chris simply told me what was going on. Apparently she joined the porn industry to pay her college debt."

"Huh... that was-that was smart of her, and brave, but to give up your dignity like that..." Laurel trailed off.

"Really? You think her choice was smart?" Nate sounded a little too hopeful.

"I mean, I suppose, but she also gave up her dignity, so there's that." Laurel shrugged.

"Porn must pay very well." Nate commented.

"No doubt." Laurel agreed.

Later that night, when they snuggled into bed, Nate took a breath and turned to face his wife.

"Babe, what if-what if we did what Abby did?" He suggested, blurting it out.

Laurel faced him, horrified. "Are you insane?"

"No, I mean, it's just that you said it was a smart thing to do, which I agree, and this could possibly get us out of our struggles." Nate rambled.

"No, no, and no! God, what's gotten into you?" Laurel glared at Nate.

"Think about it, babe. You and I could do porn videos together. Nobody has to see our faces, or hear our voices. We won't talk, just fuck." Nate insisted.

"You are seriously out of your mind." Laurel shook her head.

"It doesn't sound that far-fetched when I tell you that Jerry announced this morning that the rent will go up." Nate muttered.

"What?" Laurel exclaimed, her eyes widening in horror.

"Yup. He came to me this morning and told me that the rent would go up. Something about rich businessmen wanting to reside here and that that's why the rent is going up. Property value is going up." Nate shrugged.

Laurel's face paled with dread. "Fucking great! That's just great!"

"Hey, listen, I applied for four jobs today, but I still think we should give this porn thing a shot. With my amazing filming skills, I'll make sure our faces won't be seen. Actually, you're a makeup artist. I'm sure you can transform yourself that way no one will recognize you. You can do the same to me. Think about it, Laurel, with your makeup skills and my filming ones no one will know it's us." Nate looked at Laurel, who shrugged.

"Let's just go to sleep." Is all she said.
