I sat at the top of a building, with my feet hanging loose off the edge. I didn't look down, but up, into the night sky. My shirt flattered in the wind, as the noise of the city grew distant. The night was chilly, but I didn't mind freezing. Sometimes I even enjoyed it.

"You could fall off, you know."

My eyes dropped, looking down on the streets now.

"What does it bother you?"

I felt a presence behind me, as the person stepped beside onto the building's rim. I looked up at him. The breeze stroked through his dark brown hair, down his collar and into his white coat. Looking straight ahead again, just like him, I gazed into the distance.

"I suppose you haven't come here to remind me of my safety."

"No. I need your help."

I snorted, standing up and walking away from a mortal's ticket to the afterlife.

"You've got an army of intellectual mind-reading fellow angels on your side, more powerful than I'll ever be and you come to me for help."

He walked after me and I turned around, adding:

"How cute."

"You're the only two-sided being who I can trust."

"Oh, but I wouldn't trust me if I were you."

His expression was strict and focused, as he came closer.

"Listen. There are places in this realm, I can't enter. I need you to help me fulfil my contract." I chuckled, coming closer as well.

"Somebody prayed for you to kill again, huh? Fine, I'll help you."

"Thank you."

"But!", I interrupted him, enclosing the space between us to be only inches away from his face.

"It'll cost you."

"I am aware."

I let a moment pass, before reacting upon his reply:

"You are willing to break the law just for a stupid contract?"

"It is of very important matter."

I backed away, after shrugging my shoulders, turning around and talking into the emptiness.

"Do what you want, I don't care, as long as you pay me. So, who is it you want me to murder?"

"I prefer the term eliminate. Her name is Alice Howney."

My expression changed from taking it lightly and simpleminded to dark and slightly disgusted.

"A chick, huh?" "Yes. I think you won't have a problem with erasing her from existence."

"I certainly won't. Don't tell me more, she's as good as dead."

He became skeptical.

"Do you know her?"

"No, but I know somebody who wants her killed. Vincent Lanes. I guess that's your contract."

"Yes."

"I'll meet you in room no. 313 in the Cecil Hotel."

"I hate you."

"Told you, you can't trust me."
