Desirable

She was a constant mystery to him. Did she want him? Did she just like to flirt to alleviate boredom? Was it just a game? He had no way to truly know. But what he did know was that he had grown to enjoy her attention.

They had met when they were still in school, and they could not have been two more different people. After a brief interest in one another, they had realized that they were not compatible. At least, not then. Time passed, as it tended to do, and well over a decade after graduation they found each other again. He wondered if she was still the same woman he met way back in the day, and was pleasantly surprised to find that she had grown in many wonderful ways. He only hoped that she saw the same things when looking at him. He thought that sometimes social media actually could be good for something.

They began to have fairly regular conversations, and they quickly evolved well beyond the standard small talk and chit chat that was typically reserved for people that you had gone to school with. Instead of the usual half-hearted inquiries about family, mutual friends, and the strange roads that life takes, along with promises to meet up for a bite that neither person really expected to keep, they actually had conversations that meant something. They did meet up for meals. They disagreed with each other’s views, but instead of cutting each other off, they used those disagreements to better understand their own positions and to grow from them. In short, they acted like adults.

And as adults tend to do, they began seeing each other through the eyes of adults. Gone were the kids that had met back in school; in their places were two people that both seemed to need attention. Even if that attention was just flirtation, it was something that helped them both through rough times. It began with basic innuendos. He was a natural flirt, and didn’t hide the fact. Instead of ignoring it, or discouraging it, she opted to give as good as she got.

It started out the way it usually does with these types of things: a casual word here and a knowing look there. He had spent so long in an environment where comfort levels did not exist that he had to remind himself that some people were not able to handle his unfiltered thoughts. He tried to keep at least the semblance of decorum while he attempted to flirt with her. But he should have known better. She never had been one to conform to society’s version of proper etiquette, and with a few words, she undid his attempts to be “decent”. She requested that he not filter himself, and he’d really hate to disappoint her.

So the flirtation rose to new levels until they were being blunt about what they would do with each other. Some of the scenarios were quite graphic, while others were almost homey. They could range from tying each other down, to cuddling while watching movies. It was almost like each one was daring the other to make the first move, but they both had a powerful trait in common: stubbornness.

The flirtation remained words, and that was probably for the best. At least, it was for the time being. They were both in situations that could crumble if either one let things get out of hand, so words would have to do. But that didn’t stop them from daring each other to try something new. Finally, they were making random conversation when he said something about groping her. It was laughed off, which was normal, until he told her that in all seriousness, he would not touch her in any way that would cross the line until she asked for it. He would not force that on her. She said that she understood, but that she was sorry that that meant no spontaneity on that front. To tell the truth, he had been close to going for it on multiple occasions, but had reminded himself that that would not be a good thing.

Now that the ball was firmly in her court, he expected her to do one of two things: during one of their hugs, which he enjoy immensely, she would turn her head slightly towards his and whisper softly to go for it, and he would oblige. He would grab her ass, pulling her body against his as he turned his head to meet hers in their first kiss. He expected passion and lust to erupt and end up with her in his arms and her legs wrapped around his waist. Either that, or she was going to get tired of waiting and shove him against the wall before giving him a kiss that would give him no choice but to physically respond, which was exactly what she wanted as she reached down to examine the prize that she was about to claim.

Neither happened.

Instead, she finally took him up on an offer to come over and watch movies. He had often asked her to come over, and usually he tinted the requests with flirtation which could have explained why she never took him up on them, but other times he just didn’t want to be alone. On the day that she finally took him up on his offer, he made it clear that he just needed someone there, because he needed to be in the company of a friend. He offered to let her choose the movie, and he even made her popcorn. They sat and watched the movie, each in their own chair, and silently enjoyed each other’s company. While the credits were rolling, she stood up to take her popcorn bowl to the kitchen. He began to get up to take it for her and she told him to sit back down because she was sure she could find the way herself. He did as she said, and she was quickly back from dropping the bowl off in the sink. However, instead of crossing to her chair, she stopped in front of him and seemed to contemplate something. He looked up with a raised eyebrow as if to ask what she was up to when she answered the silent question by sitting in his lap.

As he had been sitting in a recliner, the added mass pushed the chair back and brought her closer against him. He didn’t mind one bit, but was still surprised by her actions. After a second of silence, she looked him right in the eyes and said, “Well?”

It was on. He’s not entirely sure how it happened, but their kiss lasted until they were both quite naked. The part that was confusing about that was the fact that they had both been wearing t-shirts. No longer. They were now fully exposed before one another, as they had only previously been in pictures. He had just enough time to consider the consequences of his actions, and then he was completely lost to her. He could tell by the wild look in her eyes that she was just as gone as he was. With a smile, he decided that for this night, he would take his brain out of the equation and let nature have her way.
