Carrie sat at the end of the bar after a long night at work. All she was expecting was a few drinks before going home, climbing into bed with her husband for a while before getting up with the kids in the morning. Something made her turn and look to a corner of the bar she hadn't noticed all night and who she saw shocked her. She hadn't seen Reid in a few years. They talk every now and then and have kept in touch over the years, other than that year or so after they broke up. Reid and Carrie were high school sweethearts and broke up in her senior year, breaking her heart. Although she has moved on and has a different life now, deep down there is still love for him, a love she would almost do anything to rekindle.

"Hey Carrie, didn't expect to see you here."

"You either, what are you doing up this way? Pretty long drive for a drink?"

"We are helping my mom move; she's not doing too great lately."

They continued chatting and drinking for a few more hours, and played few a games of pool. Reid had been out for a while and was well on the way to wasted when they ran into each other. As the night went on Carrie was pushing it as well and should have been getting home.

"Reid, I have to go home, hubby won't be too happy with me if I'm out too late."

"On just another drink, c'mon he won't even know, he's asleep right?"

"Yeah, I guess you're right, but just one more."

"Want to go to that other place, up the street? This place is getting boring."

"Yeah, I guess, I haven't been there in a while." She didn't really want to tell him how much she hated that place. Once upon a time it could have been her favorite, but the music so loud you couldn't hear yourself think was too much for her now.

They walked the few minutes up the street and walked into the bar they could hear from halfway down the road. It wasn't as busy as it could have been for a Saturday and for that much, Carrie was grateful. They got to the bar, got their drinks and moved to a corner to put down their jackets. Carrie ran into a few people she hasn't seen in a while, said he hellos and kept following Reid. He was attempting to talk to her, and although she couldn't really hear most of the story, she just nodded along and laughed when she thought appropriate.

The music eventually took its effect and they were dancing before too long. The alcohol had taken over Carrie’s body and she was letting the music take over and she got a little more comfortable than she normally would. As she got closer to Reid, she realized he wasn’t moving away, and had a tiny glimmer of hope way down inside that he wanted her the same way she wanted him, the same way it had been more than 10 years ago.

They eventually left the bar, Reid was in no shape to even be walking, so Carrie insisted on driving, although she probably shouldn’t have been either, she wasn’t about to admit that to anyone. They got to the place he was staying for the weekend, and things started getting back to the way they had always been. They were laughing, making jokes, picking on each other and every once in a while there would be a silence that would take them over, but not an awkward or even uncomfortable one, they were at ease with each other, thanks to their beloved friend The Captain.

Carrie told Reid more than once that she should be getting going, and he would always change the subject, keep talking about something going on in his life, or tell her something else funny he just thought of. She thought maybe he just didn’t want to get rid of her, something she had wished he would have told her 10 years ago. Deep down, she didn’t really want to leave, she wanted to spend just a few more minutes with him before he would be 6 hours away again tomorrow.
