Summary

Art sometimes copies real life and verse visa. This really isn't a traditional essay but its not really a short story either but something I felt like sharing nonetheless.

Who is Bret Livingston

Sometimes life imitates art. As some of you on here know, besides being a writer of erotica on here I'm also a role player. A role player, for those who don't know what that is is a writer on many role playing sites that creates a character and a page and he co writes stories with other role players. It can be a canon character like from a book or movie or TV show, like The Vampire Diaries or Twilight. Both were popular with role players a while back when the movie and tv show were big. There are a ton of different genre for role playing from Gangster verse to Hollywood to supernatural and so on including comic and Marvel heros and a ton of others. You name it and someone is role playing it. . Anyways the point is that role playing is a real thing, a real micro universe that exists even today. I had no clue that it did before I fell into it.

I came into role playing quite by accident. I use to have a writer and artist page on the old My Space back before My Space went nuts. Back then I was really popular because of my artwork and writings and I had over 10 thousand people on my friends list (believe it or not). Many were actual celebrities because of my art. But after a while I noticed that I kept getting Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus and other who kept requesting me on multiple pages. Like I had 15 Selena Gomez pages on my friends list and I was thinking why on earth does Selena Gomez need so many pages for? Same with Miley and several other young celebrities. Many of my non celebrity friends speculated that these profiles were simply fake pages of kids who wanted attention so they made up fake pages as their favorite celebrities in hopes of getting others to believe they really were Selena and Miley and so on. That's what I was thinking as well.

After a while I noticed some of these pages were putting up T and L and M and P in their names so I asked one of them what that meant and I was told that they were really a role player and explained what that was and the whole T and L and M and P simply meant Taken and Loving and Married and Pregnant and so on. And they explained how role playing worked. I thought, great I'm a writer and this sounds like fun. I could try this.

So I got to looking closer at all the “fake” pages that had celebrities for the avatars, the Miley Cyrus pages and Selena Gomez and Demi Lavoto and others who had the initials in their names and I noticed many were role playing sex in their comments. About this time My Space was making it so anyone could read your comments and since many of the role players were role playing sex in comments, their role plays were so you could read them. Some of them were pretty good too I must admit. I thought I really could do this and role play. Why not?

So I made up a character and made a page and downloaded some photos as my avatar or my “play by” as they say and I went and added a lot of the role players on my art / writing page and started role playing with them. It was different and fun and at first I was rusty and not that good and had to learn a lot of terminology like what para meant, which means paragraph, like a para writer is someone who replies with para replies.

See the way it was explained to me is that you make a page and add other role players and you and them will write out stories together. You write a part and send it to them and they write their part and send a reply and so on, back and forth. That's basically what role playing is. Its like playing out a play on a stage, only instead of being an actor on a stage you are an actor in a computer site, playing out characters and stories and so on.

So I became a role player and did this for some time. I started out as an original character. My first guy was a vampire hunter based loosely on Van Helsing because I thought that was a cool character, but seeing how Twilight was huge at the time some wouldn't add me. Duh! It wasn't until later I realized what that was and actually watched it and figured out what the deal was. So I tried my had at a millionaire type, a rich play boy who loved the ladies and that took off. Soon I had lots of hot women to co write with and that was a lot of fun. Then I discovered Twilight after seeing it for the first time and tried my had at being Edward Cullen for a bit and that was fun. I had a regular Bella and we had lots of fun and even had our own family.

But then the bottom fell out of My Space when they changed their layout format and started to spam the home page with tons of ugly adds, trying to compete with Face Book which suddenly was the new social site and many of us role players left for other role playing sites like One World Role Play, Site Model and others. Mind you there were some good writers but many of them left and were scattered and never found again.

So started my personal journey as a role player and such doing writing still on the side but off of My Space. About this time another site showed up called Let's Role Play. The way it was set up was very similar to the old My Space and many role players flocked to it including myself.

And that is where Bret Livingston comes in. Bret is a made up name. Its a pen name or fake page as some might say. Its okay though. On here for instance very few people use their real names but I digress. I wanted to be on this role playing site and found the model I use here who is named Brent and I thought I would change his name to Bret and so Bret Livingston was born. I made a page, I down loaded lots of photos of the model and added any hot sexy woman I could.

And we role played and co wrote together and I had lots of fun. At the time there were these groups, these Kingdoms, the most notable was a group who called themselves “Kingdom of Hell” and it was based on Lucifer as the supreme leader and he had all these wives and lovers and such and pretty much you could tell to join his group you automatically belonged to him no matter what. I thought that was rude and couldn't understand that. I had seen the leaders writing samples because many of the ladies I wrote with loved my writing and role playing and they all said I could write circle around that other guy. I didn't think too much of that but kept that in the back of my mind about the way his group was ran.

I had found many role players who loved role playing erotic but many were hidden and were keeping a low profile so to speak. It was never stated on the site you couldn't role play erotic but since there were a lot of younger kids on the site one did have to be careful who they added and who they told they were an adult role player or someone who role plays erotic. I found in my own case that many loved my Bret simply because of my writing and I had been posting some stories like "Wet Dreams" in the bulletins which caught a lot of peoples attention and in short order I became really popular with a LOT of women.

Then the thought / concept / idea came to me. What if you had a group of erotic role players who were in a group but not like a kingdom where you answered to one ruler, be it a King or Queen or Emperor or whatever and everyone was equal, like a co op.

So then the group I formed called POEV or Partners of Erotic Verse was formed and instantly it became a hit. People loved the idea of being able to easily find other erotic role players and not have to just bend over and kiss the rulers ass like they were doing with Kingdom of Hell. People flocked to the group and loved the idea that everyone was equal. The group not only shared out everyone that wanted it but also shared out links and helped others with coding and so on. It was pretty amazing. Soon we had over 100 members in a little over a month which was pretty incredible.

But like all good things all it takes is one idiot to spoil it all. One kid who had no business adding some of the erotic players on his page somehow let his mother see who was on his friends list. Of course she was upset that her 15 year old had adult type pages on his friends list and so she went and wrote the owner and complained she was gonna have his site shut down if he didn't do something about it. Of course the owner was cool with everything up until that point and then he was forced to make a whole another site dedicated to just erotic role playing called Let's Role Play Erotic. I was told to move my page and group over to the other site because that site would no longer tolerate erotic role playing on there (due to the one mom throwing a fit).

Funny how my Bret POEV page was suddenly deleted the next day although the home page to our group POEV remained. I was upset. Here you had the other groups that were allowed to remain, the reasoning was that they weren't openly erotic groups but other types of groups, although it was dam obvious the members in it were role playing erotic. It was a bunch of BS. Oh well.

The bad part was that all the former members of POEV, all those people who loved and adored Bret for his writing and for all the hard work I did to give them share outs and so forth, all of them refused to join POEV on the new erotic site. And why should they? They no longer needed POEV to help them get other erotic role players to role play with. The whole new site was dedicated to role playing. So Bret went bye bye which was sad. He never had the same popularity after that.

I was truly screwed over by a ton of people and the owner whose little buddies would personally mess with my pages. I found later that the leader of Kingdom of Hell was personal friends with one of the admins who deleted my page (unfairly) out of jealousy because a lot of his own members were leaving his group and joining mine. Truly, for a while Bret WAS the king of the world there. At least for a little while.

So we learned a hard lesson from all of this and that is that people who need you one minute might flip on you and leave you hanging but I did have a lot of fun and a lot of people loved Bret for a short while all due to my writings and my stories like “Wet Dreams”.

Its all good. It was a part of my history as a role player. In some ways I was responsible for that erotic role playing site being created because up until Bret POEV everyone was hidden.

So anyways I kept role playing and writing. Which leads us to Booksie. I actually have another profile on the other Booksie with my normal writings, stories of adventure and action and romance and supernatural. I actually do write a lot of different things and genre other than erotic. And so I created a page on there back in January using my real name and because of my writing it too garnered a lot of reads like this one did. I posted 4 full length novels, including two children's books, lots of humorous short stories and poetry. All very different from the stuff on here.

But... (there's always a but) I still like to write erotica and think I'm okay at it so I wanted to share it but felt that maybe another page with a pen name was needed so Bret Livingston came about and on here I do tell people I'm a role player. So you see Bret has come full circle and so have I. I do hope that if you read my erotica you like it. I realize its not Shakespeare or whatever. Its simply fantasies and different fetishes and such. And judging from the number of reads in my first 6 days, obviously someone likes some of it so I thank you all for that. Now this isn't your normal short story so I'm posting this as an essay but truly its not an essay either. Lets call it a true confession and leave it at that.

Thanks for reading.
