She said she loves me!  It was the happiest moment of my life.
Flooded with joy and warm elation upon hearing her response to my confession that had pained and tormented me for months - I had summed up the courage and strength to humbly express to her my heart's feeling towards her.
Without my knowing, tears rolled down my cheeks as I cuddled her with in deep breaths of relief and adoration - each a sigh of unfathomable happiness.
Yes, she said, looking at my tears and trembling eyes and holding me back by my shoulders - I do love you so much, but like a brother.
I froze.  My mouth went dry and my blood turned cold, and with that, she gave me a glance of pitty and regret before walking away to meet another man whom I'd not yet noticed, but who had clearly been waiting patiently for our encounter's conclusion for some time.
As she approach him, he offered her his hand in a gensture of comfort.  He spoke a few small words which I could not hear but see that she appreciatively nodded him a welcome and warm response.
Taking his hand, they both turned and slowly walked away.
Her arm wrapped around his waist, and his over her shoulder completing their embrace as they departed together.
I pulled my great grand-mother's diamond wedding ring from my pocket and stared at it for what seemed like and hour.
Holding my breath, I watched the beautiful piece slowly drift out of my tilting palm.  Then in a stomach wrenching flash, saw it disappear forever into the murky depths of the street drain by which I stood.
