Kristin’s POV:

“Yeah sure. Yeah I’ll meet you in the quad at lunch.” Jake said absentmindedly.

“Well alright hon. See you then” Kristin replied with a worried gaze. She kissed Jake and walked off to class. Kristin was getting really worried about Jake. He had been acting really weird lately. He seemed like the weight of the world was on his shoulders, he had dark circles under his eyes, he seemed distant every time they talked, and he wasn’t interested in anything he loved before. When she would ask Jake what was the matter, then he would just reply “Nothing” and walk off looking like he was ready to burst into tears.

“It’s been two weeks since that monster raped me. Why would he do that? Did I ever hurt him in anyway? No. that couldn’t be it, he said he did because I had a good body and I was a nice person, I didn’t know that was a crime punishable by so much pain nowadays.”

Jake could feel the tears coming on, so he ran to the bathroom not bothering to go to class like he had been doing a lot lately. He just roamed the halls and cried in private. He never told anyone what took place that Friday night after football practice when Coach Davis cornered him in the locker rooms all alone. Jake could no longer stand the sight of that horrible man or the locker room, so he dropped off the team. Even after much complaints from his friends and teammates, Jake still couldn’t find a reason to stay on the team.

Everyone thought of Jake as a quitter, but what about what Coach Davis had done? No one knew about that, so no one would blame him only Jake. Either way, Jake didn’t care what other thought, he just wanted to be alone. This particular day was a little different though, the pain was especially bad, like a deep dark abyss in his soul that would swallow him up never to let the old Jake return. After about five minutes of pain filled tears, someone knocked on Jake’s stall door.

“Hey, is everything okay in there?” a voice asked, but not just any voice, it was the voice of a girl. For a minute Jake was afraid that he had walked into the girls’ bathroom instead of the boys’. “Great,” Jake thought, “just what I needed.”

“Yeah it’s alright. I was just… um nothing”, Jake said walking out of the stall wiping his tears. “Sorry I was in the girls’ bathroom, I guess I just didn’t notice.” He looked a t a beautiful girl. About 5’2”, silky raven black hair, light tan, nice figure, and the most beautiful dark brown eyes. All in all, a girl Jake might have been really attracted to if he wasn’t so depressed at the moment.

“Oh no, it’s my fault. I ran in here being chased by a bully and was hiding in the next stall over when I heard you walk in. I figured she would never find me in here seeing as she’s a girl and all. Look, you said you were fine, but from the way you were crying I don’t think you are. Do you… do you want to talk about it?” the girl asked.

Jake didn’t know why, but he just burst into tears. The girl put her arms around him as he slid down the wall. She stayed by him making soothing noises and caressing his head while he poured out his feelings, only leaving out the part about the rapist being Coach Davis. When Jake was done talking, he just lay there with his head on her shoulder crying until the tears ran out.

“Um… thanks for being there. I- I’m sorry for troubling you, it’s just… well you know.” Jake finally said after he finally got a grip on himself.

“Look, don’t mention it. I’m here if you want to talk again, well… not here cuz you it would be a little awkward if I just hung around the guys’ bathroom all the time. Haha okay yeah anyways back to the subject at hand. Here’s my number is you want to talk again and my name is Jasmine by the way” Jasmine handed Jake a piece of paper with her number on it smiled and waved and walked out of the bathroom looking cautiously both ways to see if the coast was clear.

Jake just stared at the piece of paper in his hand. Normally he would have thrown it away, but Jasmine was different. She was the only one who treated Jake normally even after seeing how depressed he was and learning his story.

He shoved the piece of paper in his pocket and got ready to meet Kristin at lunch seeing as how three periods had gone by and somehow no one had come into that particular bathroom. In an odd way, Jake felt better if only the piece of crap that had been removed from his shitty life was the size of a speck of dust, he still felt better. Jake knew this Jasmine was special, and he felt if she could help him, then he would always love her for it. Jake walked out of the bathroom with a sliver of hope beginning to form in his soul. Even if at first he didn’t realize it, the hope was there, he just had to find a way to make it grow.
