“Office of Federal Internal Affairs; Psychologist Phoenix Miller, Identification number 677824K71. It is Friday October 21st 2016, Eighteen hundred hours. First session with patient Nicodemus Evan Brooks. Caucasian male, 39 years of age. Occupation, Sec-One Militia special agent. Classification Alpha, Foxtrot, Kilo. Patient suffers from notable outbursts of aggression and anger. Subject is reported as both volatile and violent.

Mr. Brooks you are hereby notified in compliance with regulation A586 subsection 12b that this session and all subsequent sessions will be recorded and reviewed by your superiors. Do you understand all that I have explained to you?”

Silence.

Phoenix glanced from the notepad in her lap to the man seated across from her.

“Mr. Brooks do you understand?” she repeated in a professional tone.

“Do I look stupid?” he snarled at her.

“Please answer the question Mr. Brooks. Yes or no?”

He sneered at her and gave a clipped “yes”.

She noted on her paper his uncooperative nature and abrasive mannerisms.

“Now that the formality is out of the way Mr. Brooks is there anything you’d like to start with?” she asked.

Nico Brooks sat on the couch across from her Victorian high backed chair. His body was large, muscular. He looked very much out of place muting everything around him. A giant among men. He was extremely good looking in a gruff unruly way, Phoenix noted mentally. She sized him up visually as he sat in silence staring her down.

She pursed her lips and arched a brow questionably.

“Do I intimidate you?” she asked simply.

A smart-ass smile cracked his lips but he still said nothing.

Phoenix uncrossed her legs, set her notepad on the coffee table, and leaned forward resting her elbows on her knees. She knew how she looked to him sitting there in her snow-white Chanel pantsuit and gold jewelry. She was certain he looked at her like she was a snob. A paid shrink who was wasting her time. Someone he couldn’t possibly relate to.

“Nicodemus, relax.” She soothed. “Close your eyes, take a deep breath, silently count to ten.”

Phoenix was visibly shocked when he closed his eyes and inhaled. His large chest expanded and slowly contracted as he exhaled.

“Now, I’d like you to keep your eyes closed and tell me the first thing that comes to mind.”

“Those luscious tits of yours all over my face.”

“Mr. Brooks.” Phoenix said stoically.

“No, wait. That’s not all.” He continued. “My hands full of that soft round ass while you’re riding me like a fucking bronco.” He put his hands out and ground his hips against the imaginary Phoenix.

She sighed and propped her chin on her hand.

“Are you finished?” she asked.

“Not even close honey. Back here behind my eyelids you’re butt ass naked begging me for the cock. Oh, papi! Give it to me!” he imitated.

He was obviously looking to get a rise out of her but she wasn’t giving him the satisfaction. She saw him open one eye to gauge her reaction. She simply stared at him with indifference.

“Mr. Brooks are you aware of why you’re here?”

He opened the other eye and folded his arms across his chest.

“I’m here because I would lose my fucking job if I didn’t come.”

Phoenix nodded briefly.

“Tell me why your superiors believe you should be here.” She prodded.

“Because they’re a bunch of panty waste dick weasels.”

Oh, this was going to be fun.

“Okay.”

She picked her notepad back up, crossed her legs, and peered at him, waiting.

Silence.

Good thing the government paid her well.

“Tell me about your family Mr. Brooks.”

“Call me Nico.” He said with a scowl.

“Mom and dad in the picture growing up?”

“Yep.”

“Siblings?”

“Yep.”

She waited for elaboration but got none.

“How many?”

Nico leaned forward.

“Let’s cut the shit doc. Turn off the recorder, tell the dicks upstairs I’m fine and we can both go home.”

“Are you used to getting your own way?”

He looked at her thoughtfully.

“Yeah. I am.” He said in a matter of fact tone.

Phoenix brushed an errant strand of hair from her forehead.

“Mr. Brooks. Nico. I’m going to level with you. I think you’re a fucking joke.”

Shock marred his face and he opened his mouth but Phoenix put her hand up to silence him.

“In my humble opinion,” she continued “You’re a bully. A pompous, egotistical, blowhard and when you don’t get your way you get mad and try to force your beliefs. Like a three-year-old, Mr. Brooks, a grown man throwing a temper tantrum but at least a three-year-old will throw himself on the floor and cry then be done with it. You’re a brooder, I can tell already. You stockpile all those emotions and they come exploding out and you choose to physically express that in a not so productive manner.

Let me tell you something Mr. Brooks. I will NOT allow you bully or coerce me. With that being said; this session is over.

I will have your care transferred to a new psychologist and recommend a temporary suspension of your duties effective immediately.”

Phoenix closed her portfolio, stood, and went to her desk. She heard nothing behind her so she turned.

Nico still sat in the chair with a look of confusion on his face.

“You are dismissed Mr. Brooks.” She snapped.

That brought him back. He stood and went to the door. When he opened it he looked back at Phoenix.

“Two.” He said. “One brother and one sister.”

Then he smiled and closed the door behind him.
