Chapter 1

A young girl is getting beaten by her father. Her mother has recently died and her father has become an alcoholic and has come into drugs. Her name is Kate and she is 15, her father brings druggies to the house. Kate tries to keep out of there way, some of them very dirty old or young men. She wanted to get to school to escape from the house but when she tried her father beat her.

One day when Kate was desperate to go to school she got dressed for school and left early. She could tell that the druggies had been at her house because there was smoke everywhere downstairs. A few of the druggies were passed out along with her father. She walked quietly down the stairs to find the rest of her uniform. She had her jumper, blouse, tights and shoes. She couldn’t find her plain grey skirt. Because she thought no-one would be up so she wondered downstairs with no skirt on; she wondered cautiously into filthy kitchen. She had a look in the wash basket. She could smell the odour of the wet, dirty clothes. A man coming in through the door he clapped. Kate screamed and dropped everything. She got her skirt on and turned for the door a few men were standing by the door frame. A young man was standing with them; she had never seen him before. He looked about her age, he smiled kindly at Kate. His father behind him hit him over the head, and said
‘You’re turning soft boy, you taking pity on a filthy low life girl’ a lot of them laughed the teenage boy stayed quiet. She got her bag and went for the door but the old man stopped her, Kate snarled
‘I want to get through the door in my own house!’ her father heard her say that and shouted
‘Your house, this is my house! Where do you think you are going?’ Kate turned and her drunken father was, well not walk more like waddling, towards Kate; he slapped her across the face. Kate was used to having slaps most of the time but a lot harder. She tried to stick up for herself
‘Why? What is the point of taking your guilt out on me?’ a lot of the men and the odd women behind laughed he said
‘Oh yeah what do I have to be guilty about’ Kate stayed silent her father backed her up to the corner of the disgusting kitchen work top. He grabbed her hands extremely tightly. Kate could smell the alcohol on her father’s baggy old clothes. He squeezed her hands tighter and she said
‘You now you’re the one who caused mum to die’ he held her wrists tighter, so tight it will bruise her wrists badly. Then he suddenly chucked her onto the floor and kicked her into the stomach. She cried in pain and everyone, except the young boy laughed and went back into the slightly big living room. Kate remained on the floor, scrunched up in pain. The boy who smiled softly at her and said
‘I'm Dave!’ he held his hand out to her and Kate flinched back in sheer fright; Kate was holding her stomach in true pain. Then Dave put his arms out in front of him where Kate could see them and said to her
‘It’s okay I'm not to harm you I promise you’ Kate smiled and stood up saying
‘You promise, ow’ and Dave looked back to the door then glanced at her and nodded. Her glacier blue eyes were full off pain and lots of fear. As she turned to her bag, Kate's long blond, curly locks floated around with her, Dave couldn’t help but notice blood coming from a small cut where her father had hit her roughly to the ground. She whined in pain again, her father shouted
‘DO STOP COMPLANING, KATE!’ She looked a little scared. She bent down to get her bag off the floor.  Her wrists and part of her arm showed; they had bruises and burns up and down the skinny pale arms. Kate caught Dave staring at them at she stood up swiftly and put her sleeves down. Kate walked past Dave down into the hall very quietly trying to get out of the door without anyone noticing. Kate was very thin even for her short small build. Dave felt so sorrowful for her and then Dave's dad shouted him and he went running in the living room, Kate managed to get out of the door and ran down the road; she stopped running when she turned to the school and the people in the house couldn’t see her. Kate put her jumper over her arms so any of the teachers couldn’t see her bruising and burns. She got into the school gates and felt relived, Kate went into her form room with the apparently (according to all the girls) really fit male teacher. Who just so happens they are with him in every lesson. He is very considerate when it comes to his form pupils who he had been with for three years.
Kate was sitting on her own at the back, she realised she was a little early in to the classroom.  Mr Wilson came in and Kate had her head down, what she didn’t realise was the she had bruising on her neck. With her head down it was open for Mr Wilson to see when he was walking in behind Kate. He stopped and had a quick look but didn’t say anything. Until he walked past and said to her
‘You’re here early; I haven’t seen you in a few weeks, where have you been Kate?’ Kate smiled and hesitated to answer finally she said unconfidently
‘I have been ill. With the……flu…yeah the flu….he was really bad. I mean it was really bad’ Mr Wilson got the chair and sat down by the table were Kate was sitting, she tried not to look at him in the eye; Kate turned her head around to the side. Trying to not act upset she didn’t say anything when Mr Wilson said
‘Do you know that you have bruises on your neck’ Kate looked so scared and she said with a tremble of terror in her weak voice
‘I don’t have any bruises on any part of my body okay’ he looked down and saw a little of her arm; which he saw was a bruise and cut in a circle around her wrist like she had been tied up with something harsh that had cut into her very fair skin, when Kate saw the teacher looking she put her sleeves down in panic. Sir carried on
‘How did you get them? Your wrists look painful like you have been tied up. Is that what happened Kate?’ Kate went to stand up but Mr Wilson stopped and said
‘Kate! Sit down’ Kate was always obedient towards people at home; she sat down straight away with tears in her eyes, Mr Wilson came closer towards her and she flinched back from him, the teacher could tell she was very uncomfortable and leaned back away from her, he looked at her trembling bottom lip.
‘How did you get them? Were you attacked?’ Kate was teary eyed; nearly crying with her head turned to the side. Then the bell went, and the pupils started to come in Mr Wilson got up and went to his desk and sat down. Everyone came in, sat down then the teacher took the register. One of the popular guys out of a group nudged Kate in her shoulder which she flinched in pain; Mr Wilson caught a glimpse of it and was starting to wonder. After two lessons of Mr Wilson looking at Kate and hanging around her it was time for break. When Kate was about to go through the door Mr Wilson said to her
‘Kate; can you stay behind please?’ Kate stopped and walked to his desk, when everyone had left the room he said to Kate
‘Sit down’ Kate sat down obediently but extremely frightened ‘I just want to know Kate where you got the bruises. I understand that you mother has died recently. Is it true that you live with your dad?’ Kate nodded but then at sound of the word father made her jump and a feeling of horror around her fragile little body and said
‘I don’t have to tell you where I got the bruises, because I don’t have any’ Mr Wilson sighed and said
‘Kate I must insist you tell me’ Kate got up angrily and shouted
‘Who are you? To get involved at life between me and my dad and what he does to…’ Kate then realised what she had just said and looked really worried, when Mr Wilson looked shocked and said whilst standing up

‘Kate did your dad do this?’ Kate shook her head and ran out of the room terrified, Mr Wilson went after her but when she turned the corner he couldn’t see her, and he gave up. Kate ran out of the school gates she ran and ran until she reached a subway and decided to sit there for a while.
