Summary

Everybody must have had the feeling of the weekend being over and looking at the clock as it gets towards 10.00 PM on a Sunday evening. But what do they see when they look around their apartment? Is it what they expected to have or not have? This is a powerful descriptive poem.

Red curtains drawn

By day red, at night burgundy

A room in half-light, electric

No light from outside

Heavy curtains see to that

A dining room table, plate on it

Knife and fork pointing forward, together

Incongruous when live I alone

Detritus of a single life around lies

A block of printer paper, an old DVD

Or a mug or two, washing up not done

On the other side of the room

A computer, desk, a chair, papers

Diary written up, jokes made up today

Filed away, but who cares?

For it is my home, a hobby only

A joke told today got a laugh, a story

Written never to be told, printed

Lies on the top of the printer,

A hot drink, drunk, a hot meal eaten

And a radio is on, warm sound, kind words, music,

An old song or a new one

Voices, news and entertainment

As well, people's hopes and their desires,

Loves, passions and hearts

The room, in which I live, work in and play in

It is a picture of something indeed!

The End
