Olivia had been on the bus for three days, she was sore from the bumps and bruises and she still had stitches but overall thought she was finally on the mend. Sleeping was proving to be difficult, she wasn’t sure if it was being on the bus with so many people or the fact that she kept reliving the truck hitting her car.
The third night on the bus she tossed and turned for hours before she finally fell asleep. She woke in the night with Gene stretched out beside her and his arms wrapped around her tight.
She could feel him breathing as her back was close to his chest. She wasn't sure what to do. She couldn't climb out of the bed without waking him. After a minute of debating what to do she decided that she was comfortable and still tired. She stayed and fell back asleep.
They both woke a few hours later. She turned to face him. Gene tightened his grip around her.
"Hey. You were having a rough night." He explained.
"I'm sorry." She offered. She'd been dreaming again. Every night since the accident her dreams haunted her. She had dreams about Vanessa before the accident and now they were more frequent and seem to have changed. She kept dreaming that she was hitting that big truck and Vanessa was in the car right beside her and she was so worried she would get hurt.
"What were you dreaming about?"
"My sister. The accident." She shrugged her shoulder.
He hugged her tight. "I'm sorry."
"Come on we'll get coffee."
The bus pulled up at the venue parking next to the other bus full of people. Large trucks full of equipment were shuffled in and out and unloaded. Olivia followed the crew off the bus. Off to the left at a fenced end, a small crowd started yelling as the crew dismounted.
Olivia couldn't make out anything being yelled except that she could hear Taren's name being called. Women were trying to get his attention.
Taren walked over to the fence with Gene. Olivia watched as they spoke with the group of women for a few minutes. She realized he was different in front of his fans, he flirted and teased, laughing and eliciting giggles from the women. She suddenly wondered if he was ever with any of these women, isn't that what rock stars do? He definitely tried to kiss her, he did kiss her. He looked like a guy who could have any woman he wanted. She wanted him. Wait. She wants him to what? She wouldn't know what to do with a man like Taren. She had no experience, she would embarrass herself. Besides, she has Nick, well almost.
Olivia found her way to the bus while the crew was setting up. She was the only one on the bus and planned to catch up with Renee.
She opened her email. Anytime new video or news about Taren posted online she was notified. A trick Curtis taught her to help him keep tabs on information about Taren. There were plenty of times that it popped up because someone posted a video from the concert. She browsed through all the videos opening anything that looked interesting.
She watched one that popped up that showed Taren and Gene on stage next to each other. They appeared to be having a conversation. She listened trying to understand what was going on. It took several tries to break down what they were saying with all the noise in the background.
She listened as Taren talked to the audience about a writer riding with them. She realized that this was the night of her accident and he was talking about her. He referred to her as a distraction. She listened as Gene talked and watched as the band behind him agreed with Gene. Olivia started to understand. Taren really didn't want her on the bus. He had been against it.
She was more determined than ever to keep her distance. He didn't want her around. She would have to get off this bus soon. She wouldn't stick around until Jasper Springs. She couldn't drive until her knee healed. She still had to have help getting up and down the steps of the bus. She decided she would make a plan to find a car and be on her way soon. She didn't need to be where she wasn't wanted.
Olivia was grateful her leg had improved. She was still walking around with the crutches. Which meant she spent a lot of time on the bus to avoid the steps, she used the opportunity to work with Renee whenever they were stopped and the crew was busy or if they were sleeping as the bus traveled. She didn't miss the concerts. Being able to stare at Taren and watch him move without scrutiny was fabulous. He was fun to watch while she blended in with the crowd. Every Concert burned his image in her brain just a little more and now her dreams included him. She couldn't recall a time in her life where she felt charged as she with just a look but with Taren she found herself feeling things she had never experienced before; Giddiness for one and the desire to touch him even after a concert before he made it to the shower he was full of energy, hot and sweaty.
Parked at a venue she sat at the galley with her computer as the crew was setting up. She heard the bus door open but she didn't look up from her screen until she realized someone was standing at the table beside her. She looked up and saw Taren staring down at her. His gaze was piercing and focused.
She was suddenly self conscious, straightening herself and fidgeting with the cord on her laptop. She smiled up at him. “Hey” she tried to shake the current she felt.
He didn't say anything, he nodded. He set his phone down on the table next to her and turned to the cabinets behind him searching for something. Once he found what he was looking for he went to the ice chest, grabbed two beers and headed to the back off the bus.
She stared at him as he walked to the back. Confused by him she turned back to her laptop. “Taren.”
When he turned to look at her she held up his phone. He looked down at his hands as if she had just performed a magic trick. He walked back and grabbed it from her fingers. “Thanks” he stated.
She just nodded. She was starting to get real uncomfortable around him. She was confused with the mixed feelings she had about him. Before she started riding the bus they seemed to be getting along great but now that she was on his bus he seemed annoyed by her presence, until he kissed her, then he was more annoyed. He didn't have to kiss me! She should call Nick to come get her. She didn't know how much longer she could stick around if he didn't want her around.
Taren sat down at the back of the bus guzzling his first beer and opening the second. He was pissed at himself again. He had stepped on the bus expecting to find it vacant instead he found himself staring at the beauty, she was lost in concentration staring at her screen and biting her bottom lip. He had the insane urge to sit next to her and bite that lip for her and he couldn't shake the thought. His blood rushed to his groin at the image in his head. He wanted to taste those lips again. He forgot why he even came on the bus in the first place. Distraction! Damn Gorgeous Distraction! He was going to have to do something about this.
