Summary

Nicks story is one of three that tie together. This is the second one and my goal is to post all three as they are happening in relativity to each other. I hope I can keep up with you.
Update: The chapters do not line up as I had hoped in an effort to not repeat the same things in all three stories and I have found that its a little more difficult to keep the stories varied in some chapters but in order to make each story readable as a separate story I occasionally had to put the same chapter in more than one story. I apologize for any confusion and hope that you can see past this flaw until i figure out how to deviate.

Nick spent his weekend trying to understand the last week. Everything from the accident to Olivia getting on that bus.

Talking to Taren had put him at ease a little. He still worried what a rock band could want with Olivia. How did she manage to win over that whole crew?

He called Gene to check on her. He needed to hear that she was doing good from someone besides her.  He didn't trust her to tell him if she wasn't doing well. She would be too stubborn to admit if she thought it was a bad idea to get on that bus.

His conversation with Gene didn't help him. It should have, Gene assured him that she was very much welcome and no one would be stealing her from him. They all enjoyed her outgoing personality. Why couldn't she hate it? Why couldn't she just come home?

He wasn't in the best of moods at work on Monday but he did his best to fake his way through the day.

Carmen set a file down on his desk near the end of the day. She looked at him concerned and asked. “Is everything alright?”

He looked up at her with that question repeating in his head. No. He wasn't alright. He spoke before he could bite his tongue. “No.”

“Have I done something wrong?” She asked quietly.

He eyed her confused, why would she think she'd done something wrong?Never. He assured her.

“Wanna talk about it?”

He started to say no but something stirred. Yes. He wanted to talk about it. “Yes. Maybe you can help me.”

Carmen grinned. “That depends on the problem.” She sat in the chair across from him.

“The problem is.” He started. “My girlfriend went on a trip. She hasn't come back and when I thought she was almost here her plans changed. Now. She's on a tour bus with a rock band. I can't understand what I'm doing wrong. I can't figure out how to get her home.”

Carmen watched Nick explain. When he stopped talking to look at her she asked. “What makes you think you're doing something wrong?”

“I don't know. I guess maybe it's my fault she isn't here.”

“I don't know much about your girlfriend or why she's on her trip so I can't say whether you're doing something wrong. Has she offered you any information as to why she hasn't come back yet?”

“She says she's not ready.”

“Ready for what?”

“I don't know.” He threw his hands up and leaned back in his chair.

“How did she end up on a tour bus?”

Nick chuckled. He explained what happened briefly.

“And you're okay with that?”

“No. Not really but Livy didn't really ask my opinion.”

“Are you concerned?”

“I met them. They are nice people and I trust her. I'm not worried she'll do something stupid. I just want her home.”

“Did she say when she would come home?”

“Yes when the band comes through here towards the end of summer. I just don't want to wait that long. I need to figure out how to get her here before then.”

“I don't have much experience with relationships so I can't really help you there but I can say that if she needs more time then it's a guarantee that you need to wait patiently because any woman who is forced to change before they are ready is usually going to run.”

Nick frowned. “She's not typical. She won't run. She'll just make me wait longer.”

“Is that what she's doing now?”

He cocked a half smile. “Probably. She's too stubborn to do anything my way.”

Carmen grinned. “Sounds like a smart woman.”

He chuckled. “Really? I thought you came in here to help me.”

She shook her head. “I came in here to make sure you weren't upset with me.”

He smiled. “I could never be upset with you and if it were possible I have a feeling you would know it before I did.”

She pushed her lips together as if holding back a smile. “Well then. I'll be sure to let you know when you're upset with me. She stood to walk out of his office.”

He laughed. “Thanks. I'm glad I can count on you.”

“Anytime.” She stated.
