Summary

Carmen's story is one of three that tie together. This is the first one and my goal is to post all three as they are happening in relativity to each other. I hope I can keep up with you. Update: The chapters do not line up as I had hoped in an effort to not repeat the same things in all three stories and I have found that its a little more difficult to keep the stories varied in some chapters but in order to make each story readable as a separate story I occasionally had to put the same chapter in more than one story. I apologize for any confusion and hope that you can see past this flaw until i figure out how to deviate.

Carmen was surprised to see Nick the following afternoon. “Nick? What are you doing here?”

“I didn’t have anything better to do.” He walked to his desk.

Carmen followed behind as he sat down. He ran his thumb and his index finger over his eyes and laid his head back.

“Would you like some coffee?”

“Yes. Please.”

Carmen left the room and came back with two cups of coffee and sat across from him.

“Is everything okay?” She couldn't help but ask. She really hadn't expected him to come back so soon.

“No.” He stated honestly. “I’m tired.”

“You should go home. There isn’t anything pressing to do.”

“Not that kind of tired.” He sighed.

“Oh.”

Carmen watched as he grabbed the pen on his desk and started tapping it against the wooden surface. “Maybe I should have brought you decaf.” She teased staring at the pen as he bounced it up and down.

He chuckled. “What are we doing today?”

“A few minor things.” She stood to retrieve the files from her desk.

A few days went by and Carmen watched as Nicks mood continued to slump. He hadn't been himself since he'd come back from Olivia's accident.

Carmens curiosity was peaked. She wanted to ask about Olivia but really couldn't find the courage. She knew Nick was still talking with her but something about their relationship had changed. She had no idea what but whatever it was he wasn't happy about it.

He wasn't usually forthcoming with personal information and she usually didn't ask but his demeanor concerned her. She finally decided to ask when she set his water bottle down and realized he had the same draft from this morning sitting in front of him. He should have been done with it hours ago. “Is everything alright?”I

He looked up at her and she saw a range of emotions cross his face. It shocked her that she read so much in such a short time frame.

“No.” He answered finally but didn't offer anymore. Giving her the opportunity to back out of asking.

She wanted to pry but decided on a safer question. “Have I done something wrong?”

She watched his face twist with worry, his lips turned up and he grinned. “Never.” He assured her.

“Wanna talk about it?”

He watched for a minute. She figured he would say no and she was surprised when he answered. “Yes. Maybe you can help me.”

Carmen grinned. “That depends on the problem.” She sat in the chair across from him.

“The problem is.” He started. “My girlfriend went on a trip. She hasn't come back and when I thought she was almost here her plans changed. Now. She's on a tour bus with a rock band. I can't understand what I'm doing wrong. I can't figure out how to get her home.”

Carmen watched Nick explain, her mind reeling with the information. When he stopped talking to look at her she wasn't sure she had the answer he was looking for. “What makes you think you're doing something wrong?”

“I don't know. I guess maybe it's my fault she isn't here.”

“I don't know much about your girlfriend or why she's on her trip so I can't say whether you're doing something wrong. Has she offered you any information as to why she hasn't come back yet?”

“She says she's not ready.”

“Ready for what?”

“I don't know.” He threw his hands up and leaned back in his chair.

“How did she end up on a tour bus?”

Nick chuckled.” She became friends with the crew, they asked her to tag along. Once she wrecked her car they made room on the bus for her.”

Carmen looked at Nick shocked. His girlfriend was on a tour bus with a rock band? “And you're okay with that?”

“No. Not really but Livy didn't really ask my opinion.”

“Are you concerned?”

“I met them. They are nice people and I trust her. I'm not worried she'll do something stupid. I just want her home.”

“Did she say when she would come home?”

“Yes. When the band comes through here. I just don't want to wait that long. I need to figure out how to get her here before then.”

“I don't have much experience with relationships so I can't really help you there but I can say that if she needs more time then it's a guarantee that you need to wait patiently because any woman who is forced to change before they are ready is usually going to run.”

Nick frowned. “She's not typical. She won't run. She'll just make me wait longer.”

“Is that what she's doing now?”

He cocked a half smile. “Probably. She's too stubborn to do anything my way.”

Carmen grinned. “Sounds like a smart woman.”

He chuckled. “Really? I thought you came in here to help me.”

She shook her head. “I came in here to make sure you weren't upset with me.”

He smiled. “I could never be upset with you and if it were possible I have a feeling you would know it before I did.”

She pushed her lips holding back a smile. “Well then. I'll be sure to let you know when you're upset with me.” She stood to walk out of his office.

He laughed, a glorious sound that rippled through Carmen. “Thanks. I'm glad I can count on you.”

“Anytime.” She stated.
