…...

Twenty – Hold you close...

While Phoebus worked on a few documents at the computer he kept Melina on his lap, the peace floating around them was enough to keep him entirely focused he was nearly done though he had no intention of going home early. He could barely believe she was there just leaning against him reading an e-book while he worked.

“Are you alright Phoebus?”

“Just distracted.”

“Should I leave?” she asked shifting to place a hand on his neck slowly reaching to undo his ponytail there wasn't much light so his hair only looked black.

He closed his eyes as she ran her fingers through his hair holding her waist tighter being assaulted by his feelings for her.

“I would rather you didn't I did what I needed to do I just came to have some peace.”

She smiled as she continued to play with his silky hair she'd been working on her cloaking abilities she already told the elders how they met and how often they speak to one other. Her powerful senses, those that showed her immense promise to the elders, allowed her to sense auras without being next to a person. They knew that when she spoke in his defense reasoning that he was only being given a hard time because of his status as a half demon and not because he was actually as bad as they say. Well if he was truly even bad at all. The head elder said he would assist if she needed it, they really didn't interfere with demons and their ways or look in on them so at first they didn't know why it was happening.

However there were many half demons that had shown more loyalty to the witches than one cared to count. With her talking on his behalf they were able to go through a small section of her memories just for that. Not to mention she had never asked for anything a simple check to see what happened and asking for assistance should it be needed was a minor thing.

Though while her cloaking was working she wasn't directly in need she told him about it though it was blessings from the witches. He was relieved to hear it, she had missed him it was easy to focus on how to get around anyone that would report to Averas. Though when she was resting and recovering from practicing, alone with her thoughts she thought about him again. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he kissed her, she was afraid to tell him what she felt. Having to face the growing feelings without knowing what he felt.

She bit her lip as they parted.

“Phoebus...”

“Hmm?”

She rested her head against his chest shaking her head.

“Nevermind.” she said giving in to cold feet.

“What's the matter?”

“Nothing.”

“I know you're lying just tell me what's on your mind.”

She sighed heavily.

“I just had a thought.”

“About?”

“...Us.”

He stared at her for a moment seeing she was slightly red faced, adorable as usual.

“Do tell.”

“It will make things awkward if you don't think the same.”

“Think or feel Mel.” it wasn't a question she smiled slightly and he sighed.

“If you're asking how I feel, I love you, been near pulling my hair out over the loss a text message here and there is no longer cutting it.”

She sniffed.

“You know crying when a man tells you that isn't a very good sign for him.” he teased.

She laughed and shook her head giving him a quick peck.

“I love you too Phoebus....I have spent so much time trying to make it easy so I could see you again every time I got closer it made the separation easier but now I don't want to go home alone again.”

He smiled then as she slid her arms around his neck cuddled against him, the relief nearly outweighed the grief. Going back home where it only left him hostile when someone....he loved that returned his feelings without question was so far away left an unpleasant taste in his mouth. They would make the most of it though it shouldn't be this way to begin with.

It was better than nothing and he fully intended to stay as late as he needed at least no demons had a reason to be in his office.
