Later that evening, Michael found himself  knocking at her apartment door.  Michael grew speechless at the image that stood before him as the door opened seconds later.  Alex wore a navy blue strapless, flared dress reaching her knees and on her feet were black heels.  Her hair fell flat on the sides of her face and back.

“Wow, you look great!” he remarked.

“Thanks.  I told you I clean up well,”

“You sure do,”

She closed locked the door behind her and dropped the keys into her matching purse. “So where are you taking me?”

Michael was driving for over forty-five minutes and during those minutes they were conversing and laughing.  They had left the city and they were the only ones on the secluded road.On both sides of the road for miles were the woods.  She looked out her winded window.

“Where are you taking me?”

“If you ask me one more time, I’ll let you out,”

Approximately fifteen minutes later, he swung left unto a paved road.  They could see a house from the distance, but a huge black metal gate prevented them from going any further.  A security guard stepped out of the small guard house and approached them.

Michael winded down his glass window. “Good evening,” the man said, “your invitation please,”

“I don’t have an invitation, I’m his son, he’s expecting me,”

The man scrutinized his face. “Oh, yes, go right in.  I’m sorry, I didn’t recognize you.” Michael winded his glass window back up and drove off.

The estate leading to the house was indescribable!  It was absolutely breathtaking.  The mansion itself was a sight to see!  They stepped into the function together.  There were at least two hundred people present.  He immediately made out his father who was in deep conversation with a man and woman who appeared to be in their late fifties.  Michael held her hand and made their way across the room to him.

Mr. DiNozzo in the meantime, had already seen them approaching.  Although responding to his guests’ questions, his eyes were fixed on his son.

“Good evening,” Michael greeted.

The woman turned to him. “Well, hello,”

“Mrs. Daniel, Mr. Daniel,” Michael uttered and shook their hands.

“Well, hello Michael.” The man said, “We were just discussing you,”

“Were you now?”

“Yes and how superb the line has been going.  Keep up the good work, Son,”

“Thank you,”

“Excuse us,” Mr. Daniel then said. He nodded for Mr. DiNozzo, “We will continue the conversation at a later date.”

“Yes,”

Michael looked at his father in his eyes and stretched out his hand. The man accepted. “Happy Birthday,”

“Thank you Michael, I’m very glad you could make it.”  The man’s eyes shifted to Alex.

His son laid his hand gently onto her lower back. “You remember Alex,”

“Petrovskii’s other daughter,”

“Good evening, Sir, and happy birthday,”

“Thank you,” he replied.

“You have a very lovely home,”

“Thank you.”

“Michael didn’t mention we were attending your birthday party.  If I knew I would have brought something,”

“It’s quite alright.”

“He’s fine Alex.  What can you possibly give a man that already has everything?”  He started moving away with her. “Why don’t we get ourselves a drink?” He told her.

The tension was stifling high and Alex felt it.  She smiled shyly at Mr. DiNozzo as she slowly walked away.  The man sternly yet quietly grabbed at his son’s arm before he could go any further. “What the hell is this?”

Michael didn’t bother facing him.  He watched as Alex kept on walking, not even noticing he had stopped. “Do you really want to make a scene?  It’s innocent.  I didn’t come here to fight.”

He let go of his son’s arm.  Michael was leaving when he called him. “Michael?”

Michael turned to his father and made eye contact with him.  He chose his words carefully. “Your question a minute ago…”  He came closer, “You know that I don’t have everything.  The one thing I want, you refuse to give it to me.”

“As I said, do you really want to make a scene?  You asked me to be here.  I’m here. Leave me alone for the rest of the evening. I’m not here to put on a show for your friends.” He said and rudely walked away.

Michael and Alex found themselves on the back balcony overlooking the beautiful landscaped back yard.  It was a bit quieter out there.  They both held their drinks.  He rested his side on the railing and faced her.

“You really do look great.” Michael complimented.

She smiled a little. “Thanks.” She paused for a moment before speaking again.  It was obvious she was upset about something and he noticed, “Mr. DiNozzo didn’t seem pleased with my being here tonight,”

“My father is never pleased with anything,”

“Maybe he has a right to be that way.”

“What do you mean?”

She paused again. “Petrovskii’s other daughter?  He said it with some sort of distress.” She sighed. “I can’t begin to tell you how much I detest hearing that statement.  I heard it a lot growing up actually. Petrovskii’s other daughter; like after Sasha, there was no one.  Everyone forgot I was even there.  They’re taken back whenever they saw me… you know the surprised look you give when you find a fifty-dollar bill in an outfit of yours you haven’t worn in a while?  Like you forgot it was there all along and when you do recognize it you’re simply taken aback.  You know that feeling?”  She then laughed at her statement. “Of course you don’t.  Fifty dollars is like a nickel to you… but I think you know what I mean.”

Michael looked down at his drink. “I sense some hostility between you and Sasha.  You two didn’t get along – did you?  Probably still don’t,”

“That’s an understatement.”

Alex then rested her back on the railing and watched the function inside the house through the entrance. “Someone should inform your father that there’s nothing going on between us.”

“That’s none of his business.”

A couple of hours flew by. They gave each other their undivided attention.  Alex glanced at her watch.  He had left their seating area and was returning with their drinks.

“Here you go,”

She took one. “I’m getting bored.”

“Well what do you have in mind?” he said while he sat beside her.

She tilted closer to him. “What do you think I have in mind Mr. DiNozzo?”

Michael lifted his left brow with curiosity. “I’m afraid to even mention it.”

She gulped her drink. “Get your mind out of the gutter.”

He laughed a bit. “Seriously, where can I take you tonight?”

They stood in front the ticket booth of a movie house.  The teenage boy in the booth looked at them both and their attire. “The opera theatre is two blocks down the street.”

Alex grinned, “No, we’re here to see the movie.”

The boy smiled back at Alex. They passed through after paying.  Michael touched her back and asked her gently. “Were you flirting with that kid?”

“Yes,” she responded.

He walked her to her apartment door a couple of hours later.

“Well, Mr. DiNozzo, I guess this is where we part.  I must say, I had a wonderful evening.”

“I’m glad,”

She got out her keys and unlocked her door.  Michael could not help but to scan her from head to toe then head again.  She turned to him again. “Well, goodnight,”

“I’ll call you,” He said to her.  He leaned forward and kissed her on the cheek. “Bye,”

“Bye,” At that, she stepped in and slowly closed the door.

With hands in pockets, Michael slowly walked away.

DiNozzo slept twelve straight hours after getting home.  He turned on his back and rubbed his face lightly with both hands.  He checked his watch then turned on his side to grab a few more seconds of rest.  Michael reached underneath his pillow and came out with his cell and dialed.

“Hello,” Alex greeted.  She was driving her car.

“Hi,” he drowsily said. “Thought I would keep my promise and call you,”

“Michael are you still in bed?”

“I was more exhausted than I thought,”

“You probably just need some TLC?”

“Are you offering Doctor?”

“I’m a pediatrician Michael.  You’re not a child,”

“I’m somebody’s child,”

She laughed a little. “I still can’t help you,”

Still laying he spoke. “Look, I was wondering; can I see you again tonight?”

Alex paused before responding.”I’m sorry, Michael, I really am, but I’m kinda meeting someone.”

The pleasant look on his face slowly faded to one of disappointment.  “Oh, ok.  Someone already beat me to it.”

“I’m sorry,”

“Yes, me too.  I’ll be on a flight tomorrow morning.  I just wanted to see you before I left.”

“I’m sorry but this date is really important to me.”

Michael slowly sat. “I could ask you more questions but it really isn’t any of my business.” He awaited a response. “Right?”

“Where are you going anyway?”

“Hawaii,”

“Well just keep in touch whilst you’re overthere.”

“But-”

“I’m sorry, Michael, I have to go, I’m getting another call.  Safe flight – okay?”  That was all said and she hung up, not waiting for a reply.  She left him there wondering.

His travelling bags laid on the side of his sofa in the living room the following morning.  Michael was closing his closet doors when his cell began to ring.  Michael was already dressed in a plain white t-shirt, blue jeans and sneakers.  He did not seem pleased by the number shown on the caller ID.

Yet he answered. “Hello,”

“Where are you?  Are you in  your apartment?” Sasha asked.

“Yes, but-“

She cut him off. “Good, I’m coming over.  I want to talk to you.” At that she hung up and focused on her driving.  He was not amused.

He was in the process of locking his sliding door that led to the balcony when there were three knocks on his door.  He dropped the remote on the sofa and peeped through the peephole.  DiNozzo had to take in a deep breath before unlocking that door. His whole persona indicated that he did not want her there.  Still, he opened the door and she abruptly let herself in without saying a word.

“Come in,” he said to himself.  Sasha noticed his bags but said nothing.  He stood in front of her. “My ride is waiting.”

“What is going on between you and Alex?”

Michael looked at her facial expression before responding and saw that she was serious.  “I don’t think that that’s any of your business.”

“Are you fucking my sister?”

The question didn’t deter him. “I don’t think that’s any of your business either.” He walked closer to her. “Who are you to come here and tell me who I should and shouldn’t be with?  You’re joking – right?”

“You can’t have us both,”

“The last time I checked, Bella, I never had you.” He then went in relax mode. “Alex is different… there’s something about her.”

“Of course there’s something about her!  She is my sister!  If she wasn’t related to me, would you have been so interested?”

“The world doesn’t revolve around you.”

Sasha came even closer to her so he could hear when she said, “She may be fucking you, you may be fucking her, but she’s not interested in you.  She will never be with a man like you,”

DiNozzo looked down at her. “I doubt she has any of your qualities.  That’s what makes her so refreshing.”

Sasha came inches away from him. “You love playing games?”

“Do you?” he asked in return.

She gave him a smug smile. “I have underestimated you, Michael.”

“Sasha, I have to go.  You’ve wasted your time coming here.  There’s no conspiracy going on.  Thanks for being a concerned friend and sister,” he sarcastically said and walked towards his bags.

She gave him a smug smile and followed him. “You know. DiNozzo, this campaign will soon be over.  It’ll be  shame if this relationship dies with it.  I don’t care what you said to me back in L.A.  That was just hurt pride talking – yes?”  By that time he turned around and faced her.  She wickedly laid her right hand softly on his chest. “It’s hard looking at me and seeing yourself – isn’t it.  You’re beginning to hate me, yet, you can’t get enough of me.” He just stood there not saying a word as she continued. “It’s torture – isn’t it?” Her fingers slipped slowly to his abs. “I’ll be honest with you; I feel your pain but only for a split second then I come back to reality.  We’re too much alike you and I.  We’re trying our damnedest to dominate one another… and it isn’t working.”  Her fingers once again trailed his body up to his neck and then her head gently laid on his chest. “Someone has to surrender.” She softly uttered.  Michael closed his eyes and lightly inhaled the sweet scent of her hair.  It brought back visions of their first encounter and that erotic night they shared. The images rushed through his mind.  “Who is going to surrender Michael?”

DiNozzo’s hands never left his sides.  He never touched her, yet he said. “What’s it going to take to have you all to myself?”

Her eyes dug his.  “I didn’t come here to-“

Michael looked down intensely at her. “To what?” he asked. “Give in to me, Sasha.  You’re fucking playing mind games.  Just tell me what you want and all parties involved will know where everyone stands.”

Sasha glared at him. “All parties involved?”

“Yes,”

“Meaning my sister? You want to have cake and eat it too? If one leaves you can guarantee one stays – yes?”

Michael rest his palms over his face in exhaustion. “I can’t take these games, not today,” He said softly.  Michael sighed and looked down at her. “What do you want from me?”

“I want you to leave my sister alone,”

“Is that what all this is about?”

“I do not joke.  Leave her alone,”

“And then what?” he quickly asked.  “From what I’ve been getting from you is that you don’t want anything to do with me except for the occasional fuck,”

Sasha looked coldly at him, but then a wicked smile crept up her face and she replied coyly, “Isn’t that the arrangement you have with your Elin?”

Those words stung Michael’s ears and she saw it.  The cold, hard almost mad glare he gave her kept her from even saying another word. He pointed a finger at her. “You do not say her name. You…” He paused for a second and got even a bit angrier, “What the fuck do you know about Elin?”

“I know enough for you not to judge me about occasional fuck,”

“Have you been checking up on me?”

“Have you,” she said to him, “been checking up on me.  I know you have, so don’t act like an innocent victim with me.  We both know we’re far from that.”

“You do not talk about her,”

“And yet here you are trying to win me over.  How many women do you really want in your life Michael?  You’re not too good at putting your relationship in order – now are you?”

Michael was lost. “What are you talking about?”

She scanned him from head to toe. “You live a very interesting life.  I mean, I know I’m care free but you….” She gave him a crooked smile, “you’re just care less.”

“What the hell does that supposed to mean?”

“You’re really clueless – aren’t you?  You have no damage control where relationships are concerned do you? I mean, I’m not role model but at least I protect myself. But you… you do things thinking there are no repercussions. I feel sorry for this woman,”

“Alex does not need your pity,”

Sasha turned away and sighed. “I’m not talking about Alex,” she said in Russian.  She then turned back to him and continued to speak in English. She took a pause before responding. She even chuckled a bit. “You know what?  This not why I’m here.  Let’s not forget why I came over in the first place.” She was about to walk away when he held her by the shoulders. “Michael,”

He scrutinize her facial expression. “You had nothing better to do today but to come over and fuck with my mind – didn’t you?” She did not respond, she had nothing more to say. The silence was intense.  Michael’s right hand brushed her cheek.  His eyes stayed locked at her parted lips. “I don’t know what your deal is Bella, but you’re beginning to drive me officially insane.”  His other hand slipped down her smooth neck to her chest and the first button of her blouse. “I should be fuming mad at you right now,” he uttered.  His breathing became heavier.  “But with that said, all I want to do to you now is…” He didn’t finish his sentence… his eyes and his body spoke for him.  He leaned over to kiss her but she moved away.

“You can’t have us both, Michael,”

Sasha removed his hands off her slowly, walked towards the door and left.  He watched as the door closed shut.  It was silent again.  Michael passed his hands through his hair and exhaled.
