Evan stayed with Lacey and her family for the next hour, her father told her that his parents were both still alive but they were not aware of her yet, Lacey couldn’t believe that she had grandparents too. Her brother’s names were Liam and Mason; she didn’t realise that they were twins until they told her their ages. They were twenty-two, they didn’t look alike and one was a lot taller than the other. She then found out that she had half-brother age fifteen and half-sister aged eleven and they would be home soon from school. Lacey was overwhelmed, her family seemed to be getting bigger by the minute.

Eventually Evan had to leave and Lacey walked him to the front door. “I would stay Lacey but I have to go, are you going to be alright?”

Lacey smiled and nodded, “I’ll be ok, I’ll see you later.” She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. “Thank you.” She whispered.

“My pleasure.” He gently stroked the side of her face. “There’s no rush to come home, Mart’s outside when you’re ready.”

Lacey watched Evan drive away, she wished that he could have stayed longer with her but he had been so busy just lately. There had been so many people coming in and out of the house recently, she wondered what he was up to but didn’t ask because the less she knew, the better.

When Lacey returned to the living room, her father was on his own, Joan and her brothers had gone into the kitchen to make drinks for everyone. “Lacey, I need to talk to you in private if that’s ok with you?” Her gestured her to sit by him.

“Of course.” Lacey smiled and sat down by him.

Peter held Lacey’s hand and smiled at her, his forehead creased as tears welled in his eyes. “Lacey, please tell me that wasn’t Evan Durber that’s just left my house.”

Lacey’s heart began to race. “Yes it was.” She nervously licked her lips. “Do you know him?”

Peter shook his head. “No I don’t but I’ve lived long enough around here to know of him. Mason has just told me it was him, he used to work behind the bar in one of his clubs.”

Lacey’s heart sunk, she didn’t know what to say.

Her father sat back and sat in silence for a while. “Is he the father of your baby?”

“Babies, not baby, I’m having twins.” She mumbled.

“Is he the father?” He asked again.

Lacey nodded. “why?”

“I see by the ring your wearing, you are engaged, are you getting married?”

Lacey stood up, she suddenly felt nervous, she didn’t know where the conversation was leading too and felt she was going to have to defend her and Evan’s relationship. “Yes we are, why?”

Her father looked up at her with disappointment. “I’m sorry but I can’t have that man in my house again.”

Lacey could feel her anger surfacing. “You don’t know Evan like I do, so don’t dare judge him. You have no idea how shit my life was before he came along.”

Her father stood up and held her by the shoulders. “I do know what your life was like, Frank told me all about it. Were you on drugs, is that how you met him?”

Lacey gasped. “No I wasn’t and its none of your business how I met him!” she cried, pulling away from him.

“Lacey please.” Peter held his hand out to her.

Lacey threw her arms in the air. “You have been in my life for what, an hour and you’re judging me!”

Her father stepped back and half smiled. “Dear lord, you have your mother’s temper.”

Lacey glared at her father. “And don’t compare me to her!”

Just then the living room door burst open, a little girl with long sandy blond hair stood in the doorway, staring wide eyed at Lacey. “Are you my sister?” she whispered.

Lacey looked at her dad and cleared her throat, she turned to the little girl and smiled. “Yes I am.”

“I’ve always wanted a sister.” The little girl cried, throwing her arms around Lacey.

Lacey hugged the girl. “Well, I’ve always wanted a sister too.” She laughed, trying to keep herself from falling over.

“My names Gemma, I’m eleven, how old are you, are you having a baby?” She excitedly asked, stroking Lacey’s stomach.

“Whoa hang on, so many questions.” Lacey sat down and noticed a fair-haired boy standing in the doorway, he smiled at her and walked away, Lacey looked at her dad.

Peter smiled. “That’s Jake, he knows who you are, give him time he’s shy.”

Lacey spent another couple of hours at her father’s house, she got on well with Liam and Mason, Gemma linked arms with her and wouldn’t let her go. Joan was the perfect host but Lacey felt she had a lot more talking to do with her father.

When Lacey was ready to leave, everyone said their goodbyes to her then left her on her own with her father.

Peter hugged his daughter and kissed her on the forehead. “Please don’t let what was said between us earlier on ruin things for us. I really want to see you again.”

Lacey looked up at her father. “You know what, I was just about to walk out when Gemma came into the room, I’m glad I didn’t now but you have to understand, Evan is my world and I’m getting married to him.”

Peter breathed in deep and closed his eyes. “Ok, I will try for you but give me time.”

Lacey smiled and nodded. “I will see you again soon.” She said walking towards the car.

Tears filled Peter’s eyes as he watched his daughter walk towards her waiting car. “Bye Lacey.” He shouted.

“Bye dad.” Lacey shouted back then suddenly stopped walking, she had just realised she had called him dad. Tears welled up in her eyes as she turned to look at him. Lacey ran to him, threw her arms around his neck and began to cry. “Dad.” She sobbed.

“What’s wrong Lacey?” He held on tight to her.

Lacey looked up at him and stroked his face. “I’ve never called anyone dad before, now I’ve got a real dad, my dad.”

Lacey and Peter held onto each other sobbing in each other’s arms, they knew they had a long way to go with each other but both knew that in time things would work out.

When Lacey arrived home, Evan came out of his office to see if she was alright, he couldn’t stay with her for long because he was busy and told her he didn’t know how long he would be. As Evan walked back into his office, Lacey could see Ralph and several men that she had never seen before in there.

Lacey shouted for Bonnie to come to her and was going to take her outside into the garden for a walk. When she opened the front door, she saw a man getting out of his car.

“Where’s Evan?” The tall dark haired man asked sharply, walking up the steps towards her.

“He’s in his office, do you want me to get him for you?” Lacey asked.

“No, I know where to go.” He said gruffly, walking into the house.

Lacey began to panic a little, she didn’t know who he was. “Oi, you can’t just walk in here, who are you?” She raised her hand to press the alarm button by the door.

The man stopped and looked at her, his eyebrows raised, “I’m Damian, Evans brother and you are?”

Lacey took an instant dislike to him. “I’m Lacey, Evans fiancé.”

“Oh,” he said, then walked towards Evans office. Just before he entered he stopped and looked back at Lacey for a few seconds then walked in the office.

When Lacey went to bed that night, Evan was still in his office with the men that she had seen earlier and his brother Damian. It felt like Damian had a problem with her and she didn’t have a clue what it could be.

The next morning when she woke, she could hear Evan in the shower, and waited for him to finish so she could speak to him.

Even eventually came out of the shower, wrapped in a towel. He lay on the bed next to her. “I’m sorry about last night, I was busy and didn’t get to bed until two this morning.”

Lacey suspiciously looked at him. “You seem to be busy a lot just lately, what are you up to?”

Evan noticed the look on her face. “Don’t worry yourself about it, you’ll find out soon.” He laughed. “Come on, let’s get some breakfast, I’ve got someone coming around to see us today about altering this floor for the babies.” He kissed her, climbed off the bed and began to dress. “You can sort them out for me and show them what we want doing.”

Lacey rolled off the bed to get dressed, she was excited now.

“Oh and Lacey.” Evan said as he was about to leave the bedroom.

“We need to think of names for our girls, I don’t like calling them the babies all the time.”

Lacey got dressed and went downstairs to have breakfast with Evan, she was smiling to herself thinking how sweet it was, that Evan wanted to talk about baby names. Her smile soon faded when she saw Damian sitting at the table, he had stayed the night. When Lacey sat at the table he didn’t even acknowledge her, which was fine by her, she didn’t like him anyway. While she talked to Evan at the table, she could feel Damian staring at her, he made her uncomfortable.

Evan could sense the atmosphere between them so after breakfast he had a word with Lacey about it. He told her no one likes Damian when they first meet him and he assured her that once she gets to know Damian, she’ll get along with him fine and everything will be ok.

Later in the day while Evan was busy in his office, the workmen turned up. Lacey showed them around the second floor and explained how the rooms were to be decorated, she then took them to the first floor and showed them the back entrance that needed to be closed off. When she took them into the guest rooms she was discussing where they needed to put an archway in, when she noticed Damian standing in the doorway staring at her. Lacey ignored him at first but could slowly feel her temper rising, she wished he would go away and stop staring at her.

When she had finished talking to the workmen she left them to take measurements and was going to get them a drink. Damian was still in the doorway and wouldn’t move out of her way.

“What is your problem with me?” Lacey snapped.

Damian smirked. “You think you got it made here with my brother, don’t you?”

Lacey’s glared at him. “You don’t know shit!” She cried and tried to walk past him again. Damian still wouldn’t move out of her way, she stepped back from him, he was making her feel uncomfortable again. “Move!” Lacey growled.

“I know all about you and what your like.” Damian snorted

Lacey slowly shook her head and smiled. “You know nothing about me.”

Damian rolled his head back and laughed. “Oh yes I do, Rachael told me all about Evans whore.”

Lacey froze, she now just wanted to get away from Damian and go and find Evan. “Well if you believe anything that came out of her mouth, then you’re a fool. Now move out of my way!”

“My brother’s the fool not me.” He snarled.

Lacey shook with anger; Rachael was dead and she was still causing problems for her. “Whatever Damian, go and tell Evan that to his face, I’m sure he’d love to hear what you have to say about him.”

Damian shook his head and laughed. “Playing happy families with you won’t last long so make the most of it Lacey and when Evan gets bored with you and wants to come back onto the scene he won’t stand a chance.”

Lacey was confused. “I don’t know what you mean.” She tried to push past him again. “Move!” She cried.

Damian grabbed Lacey’s shoulders and pinned her against the wall. “Because of you he’s selling over half of what he’s built up over the years. You’ve made him weak, Lacey.”

Lacey nervously licked her lips. “I don’t understand, what’s he selling?”

Damian looked at her with surprise. “You really don’t know do you?”

Lacey stared at Damian, she hadn’t got a clue what he was on about. “Know what?”

Damian let go of her shoulders and leaned over her against the wall. “Evan’s going to retire, for you, his whore.”

Evan was walking up the stairs and had heard everything.
