Lacey lay on the bed listening to Jack whistling, while he was getting ready for work; he was in an upbeat mood. Anger raged inside; she hated him for what he was doing to her. Without talking, he left the bedroom. Hearing the water running in the bath, she wondered why Jack had done that; he was dressed for work. Entering the bedroom, he opened a drawer and rummaged through it. “Here,” he said throwing a white t-shirt and boxer shorts on the bed. “You can have a bath and get changed into those before I go to work.”

Lacey’s eyes widened. “I’m not having a bath if you’re going to keep me cuffed to you like you do when I go to the toilet.”

“What’s up, you’ve not gone shy on me, have you?” Jack grinned sitting on the edge of the bed and stroking her hair from her face.

“No, I haven’t,” Lacey answered, she was beginning to worry. If Jack was in the bathroom with her, he would see the money in her bra. “At least let me have a little bit of dignity.”

Jack stared at her, thinking there was only a small window in the bathroom, so she couldn’t climb out. Suddenly thoughts of Lacey and Evan together ran through his head. Jealousy swept through him like a tidal wave. “Did Evan let you keep your dignity?”

“Yes, he did,” Lacey spoke as calmly as she could, knowing an argument was brewing now Jack had mentioned Evan.

Jack gripped her hair and stared into her eyes. “You love him, don’t you?”

Lacey knew Jack was trying to pick a fight and she was trying her hardest not to take the bait. “I don’t want to talk about him.” She half smiled. “Let’s just concentrate on you and me.”

“Answer me!” Jack bellowed, yanking her head back.

Lacey yelped in pain; he’d hurt her neck. “I’ve already told you; I don’t love him!” she cried trying to move his hand off her hair. “But do you know what, he never fucking handcuffed me to a bed!”

“Keep your voice down!” Jack snarled smacking her hard across the face.

Taking deep breaths, trying to keep her cool; she knew she had to keep things sweet. “Please just let me go for my bath,” she quietly said looking him straight in the eyes. “I promise I won’t make a sound or try to run.”

Jack stared at her for what seemed like forever; he knew there was no way out for her. “Ok,” he said un-cuffing her; he gripped her arm and led her to the bathroom. “Be quick because I’ve got to go to work soon.”

Rubbing the red marks on her wrists, Lacey entered the bathroom and glanced behind to see if Jack was behind her; he wasn’t. Quickly taking the money out of her bra, she slipped it under the small grey mat by the sink. Knowing that Jack could return any second, she quickly got undressed and stepped into the bath. Within seconds, Jack entered the bathroom and kneeled by the bath. Lacey tried to act as relaxed as she could as she squirted the sponge with body wash. Jack took the sponge from her and began to wash her back. “You do realize we’re both free to do what we want.” He grinned.

Lacey’s stomach churned; she knew what he was hinting at. Turning to face him, she hooked her hands around his neck. “I’ve gone through so much just lately.” She said resting her head on his shoulder. “Give me time.” She whispered.

Jack moved his head back, suspiciously looking at her. “Finish your bath,” he ordered standing up. “I’ll make you some breakfast before I leave.” He said taking her clothes off the floor.

“What are you doing with those?” Lacy asked.

“You’re not wearing things that he bought you.” Jack huffed. “I’ll buy you some new clothes today!” he snapped leaving the bathroom.

“Shit,” Lacey muttered, Jack had taken her bra, and now her money had to stay under the bathroom mat; if he found it, god knows how he would react. Quickly washing before Jack returned, she stepped out of the bath just as Jack threw the white t-shirt and boxers onto the bathroom floor. Sighing with relief he hadn’t entered, she quickly dried herself and changed into his clothes. Pulling the bathmat straight, to make sure her money was covered, she left the bathroom.

Jack was outside, waiting for her. “Give you time!” he bellowed grabbing her by the arms. “Do you think I’m stupid!” he snarled dragging her into the bedroom and swinging her onto the bed.

“No, Jack!” Lacey cried trying to fight him, but he was too strong.

“I know what you’re up to!” Jack growled handcuffing one of her arms to the bed. “Do you think you can sweet talk me into thinking you care about me!” He bellowed throwing a plate of toast on the bed. “You’ve got two minutes to eat!”

Lacey shook with anger. “You bastard!” She screamed picking the plate up and throwing it at him. The plate flew past his head and hit the wall, shattering into pieces.

Jack spun around and glared at her as he stormed towards her. Grabbing her by the shoulders he forced her to lie on the bed and straddled over her. “When will you learn, that temper of yours.” He stopped talking as he struggled to hold her free arm above her head. “Will one day be your downfall?” He pulled hard on her arms to make sure she couldn’t break away from the headboard and sat up out of breath.

Lacey winced in pain; the handcuffs cut into her wrists. “Please, Jack, I can’t stay like this all day!” she cried.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be back throughout the day to make sure you’re alright.” He laughed gripping her chin and gazed down at her. “Do you know how good you look lying there like this?” He slyly smiled, leaned over her, and kissed her on the lips.

Lacey had now had enough. Jack disgusted her; she sunk her teeth into his bottom lip and bit him.

“Bitch!” Jack hissed sitting up and holding his mouth. Glancing down at the blood on his hand, his temper exploded. He raised his fist and punched her hard in the face. Lacey’s adrenalin pumped as she wildly kicked and screamed while Jack fought to hold her legs down to secure her to the bed; she put up a good fight, but with her arms cuffed to the bed, he got the better of her. Jack stood over her out of breath and sweating. “If you ever want to leave here; all you have to do is tell the truth about Evan Durber.” He grinned stroking her swollen eye.

“Go fuck yourself!” Lacey growled glaring at him.

Grabbing a cloth from the bedside cabinet, Jack rammed it into her mouth and tied a tie around her head to hold it in. “You’d better be in a better mood when I return!” He growled storming out of the bedroom.

Realization hit, as Lacey watched Jack leave the bedroom; he didn’t want her, he wanted her to snitch on Evan. Tears slowly trickled down the sides of her face as she gazed at the ceiling; she didn’t know how much more abuse she could take from him but there was no way she was going to snitch on Evan. Her thoughts turned to when she was first taken to Evan’s house. Even though she didn’t show it, deep down she was scared of him; but no matter what grief she’d caused him, he’d never physically abused her the way Jack was doing.

Evan rolled onto his side and stared at the space next to him, he could smell Lacey’s flowery perfume lingering on the sheets. He yawned and stretched his aching body; he’d barely slept with worry, thinking about Lacey. Glancing at the bedside clock as he swung his legs off the bed; it was five-thirty am. Hoping it wouldn’t be too long before he heard from Frank, letting him know what time Jack’s next shift was, he made his way into the en-suite bathroom.

After his shower, Evan dressed in his jeans and t-shirt and made his way downstairs; Jim and Ralph were waiting for him in the living room. “Have you heard anything from Frank yet?” He asked flopping back on the sofa and reaching for his cigarettes.

Jim glanced at his watch; it was six am. “It should be any time now, he starts work at six.”

Evan turned to face Ralph who was typing on his laptop. “Have you taken Lacey off the website?”

“Yes,” Ralph answered puffing his cheeks. “The bidder’s interest peaked, after her antics with the gun in your club.” He choked a little laugh. “When I deleted her, the highest bid was one hundred and sixty thousand.”

“Who bid that?” Evan huffed taking a long draw of his cigarette and watching Maud enter the living room with a tray of tea and coffee.

“You know I don’t know who the bidders are until they pay,” Ralph answered. “Now she’s been deleted, we’ll never know.”

Evan was about to reply when Jim’s mobile began to ring, his heart thudded as he watched Jim quietly talking.

“Ok thanks,” Jim said cutting the call and looking at Evan. “Frank says, Jack’s at work now, he finishes at six pm and he walked to work.”

“That means, Lacey, will be on her own for twelve hours!” Evan growled standing up and began pacing the room.

“Listen to me.” Jim calmly spoke; he could see Evan was getting agitated. “You know Lacey is a fighter. If Jack’s holding her against her will, we both know she would have fought him.” He placed his hand on Evan’s shoulder. “So he’d have restrained her. He’s got to go home sometime in the day to check on her.” He said turning to leave the room. “So, just try to keep calm; she’ll be home today.” He confidently said.

“Where’re you going?” Evan asked.

“I need to sort men out, to hang around the streets. If Jack returns to his house to check on Lacey, they can follow him.” Jim answered.

“I’m going with them,” Evan said stepping forward.

“No, you’re not.” Jim held his hand up. “Even I’ve got to step back from this. If we’re seen in the city, Jack will be more careful.”

Evan slumped against the wall, never in his life had he felt as helpless as he did right then, but he understood what Jim was saying. Within the hour, Jim had sorted six men to walk around the police station area and follow Jack's movements throughout the day; he too, felt just as hopeless and frustrated as Evan did but he knew it was for the best if he and Evan kept a low profile.

Throughout the morning, the atmosphere in Evan's house grew thicker as each minute passed. Evan paced the house like a caged tiger. Jim and Ralph didn’t know what to do or say to calm Evan; they both knew, if Jack had got Lacey, his life was in danger.

Evan had to redeem himself somehow, she's never thought about going to look for her dad, she didn't know his name and thought he wasn't bothered about her :)

Evan had to make it up to Lacey somehow didn't he and what better way than to find her father, I guess if her dad didn't want to know, Evan would never have told her about him to save her the heartache :)
