Parking alongside Jim’s car, Evan turned to Lacey and held her hand. “You live in my world now Lacey so I am going let you make a decision tonight and whatever you say will be done.”

Lacey nodded even though she hadn’t got a clue what was going on, she nervously followed Evan to the back of Jim’s car.

“Now Lacey.” Evan leaned on the back of the car. “Do we let her go or get rid of her?” He opened the boot and inside it was Racheal was tied up, blindfolded and gagged.

Lacey gasped and stepped back in shock.

“Well, what do we do?” Evan asked.

Lacey’s body shook with nerves as she stared at Evan not knowing what to say, she looked at Jim and Mart then back at Evan. Her heart was beating so hard she thought it was going to explode through her chest. Rachael had caused her so much trouble since she had known her and Evan was right, she would always be a thorn in their sides. But Lacey thought she’d let Rachael have her say, deep down she hoped that she would regret the troubles she had caused her. Taking a step closer to the car, Lacey pulled off the blindfold and took the gag out of Rachael’s mouth. “What have you got to say for yourself bitch?”

Rachael struggled to get out of her restraints. “You’ll pay for this slag!” She screamed at Lacey then glared at Evan. “You think I’m stupid don’t you Evan Durber. I’ve seen what you get up to!” She snarled. “Just wait till I get out of here, you’ll be sorry!”

Lacey shook her head with disbelief.

Rachael smirked at Lacey. “And you, I hope you and that thing inside you dies!”

Lacey couldn’t believe what she had just said. “You just can’t keep your fucking mouth shut can you Rachael?” She cried.

Rachael began to scream.

Lacey watched Rachael, throwing herself around in the boot of the car, screaming. She knew Rachael would now cause more trouble for her and Evan. She didn’t feel sorry for the bitch, all she had to do was keep her mouth shut and could have at least shown a little remorse. “Get rid of her.” Lacey calmly said and walked towards to Evans car.

Lacey sat in the car, watching Evan talk to Jim and Mart. If there was ever a time she needed a cigarette it was now, she hadn’t had one since she realised she was pregnant. Taking one of Evans cigarettes out of the packet, Lacey lit it and took a long draw of it and lay her head back on the seat. By the third draw of it, she began to feel guilty because of the baby and stubbed it out then began to punch the dashboard in frustration.

“Lacey!” Evan shouted as he opened the car door. He leaned across and grabbed her arm. “Are you ok?”

Tears filled her eyes. “Can we go back home now?”

Evan smiled, that was the first time she had called his house, home. “Whatever you want sweetheart.”

When they arrived home, Lacey said she was feeling sick and wanted to go to bed. Evan was worried that the decision she had made about Racheal had affected her, he lay on the bed and wrapped his arms around her. “Are you alright, do you want to talk about tonight?”

Lacey lay her head on his chest and sighed. “I’m ok, it’s just a bit of baby sickness and I’ve got nothing to say about tonight. I just want everything to be good between us now.” She gazed up at him. “Maybe no more arguing would be a start.”

Evan laughed. “Do you think really think we could stop arguing?”

Lacey giggled. “I think we could if you stop winding me up.”

“Oh right.” Evan grabbed her backside and pulled her closer. “So it’s never you that starts them, is it?”

Lacey threw her hand to her chest to fake shock. “It’s never me!”

Evan slowly shook his head. “You’re a pain in the ass Lacey Jackson, but I love you.”

“I love you too.” she whispered.

Evan was still sleeping when Lacey woke the next morning, she climbed out of bed and stood by the window gazing across the garden, thinking about the previous night. Evan had finally opened up to her and told him about his life. And for that she loved him even more now. For a split second she thought about Racheal and shrugged it off, it didn’t bother her, all she wanted to do now is concentrate on her life with Evan.

Now things were good between her and Evan there is one more thing in Lacey’s life she wanted and hoped that he would help her get it. Lacey went to the kitchen, made breakfast and coffee then took it upstairs with her.

Evan was just waking as she entered the bedroom. “How long have you been awake?” he curiously asked.

“Quite a while.” She smiled, placing the tray on the bedside cabinet.

Evan was concerned. “Are you alright?”

Lacey sighed, climbed on the bed and straddled him. “Will you stop asking me if I’m alright, I told you last night that I’m fine, now stop worrying.” She leaned over and kissed him.”

Even looked suspiciously at her. “What are you up to, you’ve never brought me breakfast in bed since you’ve been here?”

“I want to talk to you about something but it can wait till later, you’ve just woke up.” She went to climb off him to pour him a coffee.

Evan grabbed her by her waist. “Tell me now.” He said pulling her back on him.

“Ok let me bring the tray over then I’ll tell you.” Lacey placed the breakfast tray on the bed and sat crossed legged next to it and began to pour the coffee. “Since I’ve lived here with you, I’ve never asked you for anything, have I?”

“No why?” Evan curiously looked at her. “Is there something you would like?”

Lacey nodded.

“And what would that be?”

Lacey told Evan about Margret selling the café and the reason why.

Evan stared over the top of his mug. “Do you want the café?”

Lacey smiled. “Yes.”

Evan looked at her in dismay. “Of all the things that you could ask me for, you want me to buy that for you?”

“Please Evan.” Lacey clasped her hands together. “It’s not just for me, I’m thinking about my friends too, they will have nowhere to go to in the day. When I was on the street, that place was a lifesaver to me, especially in the winter.”

Evan rubbed his forehead. “If I agree to this, you won’t be working there.”

“I’d already guessed you’d say that.” She laughed. “There is a small flat above it. My friends, Sam and Alison can live in it and run the café for me. Alison is pregnant and is still living on the streets. They have been so good to me over the years, they could finally have a home like I have. Please Evan I really want to do this and at least I can earn my own money.”

Evan sighed. “But you don’t need to earn your own money I gave you a card to use whenever you want.”

“I know and I don’t want to sound ungrateful but.” Lacey lay her head against his chest and gazed up at him. “It would be nice to earn my own and it’ll give me something to do.”

All Evan wanted was for Lacey to be happy, she had begun to adjust, sometimes with great difficulty, to his way of life and hoped that she would eventually forget her old life. But Lacey was loyal to her friends and still cared about them and he respected that. He also knew that he couldn’t keep her in the house with nothing to do. Gazing into her big blue eyes giving him that pleading look, how could he refuse her but he needed to check it out first. “I will think about it ok, but what would I get in return?” he teased.

Lacey moved the tray onto the bedside cabinet and straddled over him. “I guess I’m going to have to give you me for the rest of your life.” she laughed.

Evan felt a warm rush through his heart. “That will do for me.” He smiled then bumped his forehead with his fist. “By the way, I forgot to tell you, Ralph and Charlotte are home now and they have asked us to go over and see them today.”

“What time?”

Evan glanced at the bedside clock, it was nearly half ten. “We’re supposed to be there for midday, we had better start getting ready.”

Lacey jumped off the bed and went into her walk-in wardrobe and sorted something to wear, she was excited to see Charlotte. Dressing in a baby pink short dress, Lacey did her makeup and stood in front of the full-length mirror brushing her hair, it felt like a lifetime ago since she had dressed up. Evan walked behind her and clipped the necklace he had bought her for her birthday. He wrapped his arms around her from behind and nuzzled his face into her neck. “Bloody hell Lacey, can we just run away and get married now?”

Rolling her head to one side, as Evan kissed around her neck, Lacey giggled. “Set a date then.”

Evan looked at her through the mirror. “Are you sure this is what you want?”

Lacey gazed back at the man she loved through the mirror. “I’ve never wanted anything more in my life than you.”

Evan smiled as he ran his hand across Lacey’s stomach and patted her belly. “Is this a little bump I see?”

Lacey gasped. “No it’s too soon to be showing!”

Evan grimaced. “I think I’d better keep my mouth shut.” He gently squeezed her belly. “Pudgy.” He added.

Lacey spun around and playfully slapped him. “Yes, it would be best to keep quiet, for own safety.” She laughed.

Later that afternoon when Lacey saw Charlotte, she was horrified when she saw the state of her face and body. Her body was covered in bruises from the beating she had received from her bidder.

“I was so scared.” Charlotte sobbed in her friend’s arms. “I thought they were going to kill me.”

“Oh Charlotte.” Lacey gently rocked her. “I hope you’re not going to do this again.”

“Me and Ralph have spoken about it and agreed that I won’t do it again.” she moved away to take another tissue. “Anyway I’ve got something to tell you.”  Charlotte paused and smiled.

“Come on, what is it?” Lacey was curious now.

“Well, since that day you found out you were pregnant I’ve done a lot of thinking.”

“Is that even possible?” Laughed Lacey.

Charlotte elbowed Lacey. “I’ve had a good talk with Ralph and he’s agreed that we can try for a baby.”

“That’s great news.” Lacey cried, throwing her arms around Charlotte. “We can go baby shopping together.”

Charlotte squealed with delight. “Shall we go tomorrow?”

Lacey and Charlotte arranged to go shopping in the city the next day. When they told Evan and Ralph what they had planned, they were told they couldn’t because they were all going to stay at the Hotel for a couple of nights to check some things out before they made the decision to buy it. The girls were fine about it; they could go shopping in the city were the hotel was.

The following day as they were getting ready to leave, Evan received an urgent phone call, it was something to do with one of his clubs in the next city. Evan asked Jim to go and deal with it for him because he was going away, they spent some time in his office talking while Lacey was in the garden with Bonnie.

When Jim was ready to leave, Lacey saw him about to get in Evan’s car and ran over to him. “Are you off to put the world to rights again?” She laughed.

“Yeah something like that.” He grinned, then wagged his finger at Lacey. “Now while I’m away don’t get winding Evan up, he’s got a lot going on right now.” He sternly told her.

“I know, at least I’ll have Charlotte for company. Oh, I’ve decided to get my own mobile, can I have your number? You will be my first call?”

Jim wrote his number down for her, he passed her the piece of paper and hugged her. “Now remember what I’ve said Lacey, behave.” He kissed her on the top of her head then opened the car door. “I’ve told Evan this and now I’m telling you, after the other night you should both be sorted now. You are the best thing that has happened to him in his life.”

“Yes you are.” Jim closed the car door and opened the window. “and he’s is the best thing that’s happened to you, so don’t ruin it.”

Lacey smiled, she loved Jim. “I’m not going to, trust me, I’m here to stay.”

“Good, that’s what I like to hear, I’ll see you when you get back.” Jim said starting the engine up.

Lacey watched Jim drive away, she called Bonnie to take her back into the house and saw Evan standing in the doorway with their cases. “Are we ready to go now?”

“Yes, Mart’s on his way to us now with another car.” he smiled wrapping his arms around her.

Mart brought the car to the front of the house for them and put the cases in the boot. As they drove off together Evan glanced at Lacey, who was messing with the radio channels trying to find something for them to listen to, she looked contented. Since the night he had opened up and told her about his life, Lacey had changed, she seemed calmer. The only thing that bothered him was she hadn’t spoken about Rachael; it was like it never happened.

As the gates slowly opened, Evan relaxed back in his seat, he was looking forward to spending quality time with the woman he loved and good friends while sorting business out along the way.

Thank you for the lovely comment.
In the UK a girlfriend can be summoned to testify against a partner, if she refuses to testify then she would be held for contempt of court, so could be fined or jailed. :)

Finally she had some foundation to stand on and it looks like she's settling in quite well to her role of his wife. She told him to be honest with her and share and he's done that. Now she'll have some bit of work and be able to spend time with her friends. Don't like that folks are stirring up trouble. Hope Jim will be all right. Really like him.
