Over the next few days everything wasn’t too bad for Lacey, in the day she spent time with Jim but at night, alone in bed she would cry, she missed Evan. She was also worried about Charlotte, the bidder that she flown out to meet had invited friends to join them and because Charlotte had objected, he had beaten her.

Evan rang Lacey a couple of times a day to make sure she was alright. He had also rung his doctor and asked him to give Lacey a check-up to make sure that she was healthy. Lacey had been sick a few times but apart from that everything was fine with her health. The doctor gave her vitamins to take and advised her about healthy eating but Lacey wasn’t interested with healthy eating, her cravings had started and was sending Jim out every day to get her double bacon cheese burgers from the city.

On the fourth day, Lacey was bored and asked Jim to take her into the city, she wanted to have a look around the baby shops for ideas on what to buy for the baby. While she was asking one of the assistants for advice she heard a Rachael’s voice behind her. Lacey gritted her teeth and turned around, she knew she had seen her because she had heard her name spoken. Rachael was with her sister, pointing at Lacey, sniggering.

Lacey’s blood boiled instantly. “What do you want bitch?” She growled.

“Nothing.” She smirked.

Jim took a step closer towards Lacey to make Rachael aware of his presence.

Racheal laughed when she saw Jim. “I see you’ve got your guard dog with you, are you fucking him too.”

“Fuck off Rachael!” Lacey cried, struggling to control her temper, she turned away and faced Jim, wanting him to walk her away from the situation she was in.

“I guess you’re pregnant with you being in here.” Rachael and her sister laughed.

Lacey spun around. “That’s none of your fucking business.”

A smile slowly grew on Rachael’s face, her guess was right, Lacey was pregnant. “Well, all I can say is good luck to you, if it’s Evans he won’t stay with you.”

Lacey laughed and shook her head. “You know what Rachael; you really are a jealous bitch.”

“What!” Rachael snorted. “Jealous of you, street rat!”

Jim saw Lacey’s eye’s flare and her cheeks flush crimson, he knew from experience, Lacey was about to blow. He stood between the two girls and moved Racheal aside. “That’s enough, move.” He growled.

“Get off me!” Rachael screamed trying to push Jim away.

Jim wrapped his arm around Lacey. “Let’s get you out of here before you kill her.” He laughed, walking her away.

“Evan will soon get bored of you, he likes his women too much!” Racheal shouted.

Lacey had now had enough of Rachael’s bitching, she yanked herself away from Jim and stormed towards Rachel, grabbed her hair and pulled her head to the side. Lacey raised her left hand. “Can you see this on my finger?”

Racheal’s eyes widened when she saw the diamond clustered engagement ring on her wedding finger.

“Yes Racheal, it’s an engagement ring.” Lacey said, pushing her to the floor. Lacey notice the shop had gone quiet and everyone was staring at her, she dropped her head and sighed. Why did she have to keep losing her temper in public? She had to stop fighting and arguing in public now, she was going to be a mother but needed to give Rachael one last warning. Lacey kneeled on the ground next to her. “If I ever hear that you’ve been slagging me or Evan off.” She patted the side of Rachael’s face. “You’d better watch your back.” Lacey slyly smiled, stood up and walked away.

Jim laughed as they left the store. “I think I’ll be out of a job soon.”

“Why?” Lacey asked.

“You don’t need me; you can handle yourself.”

“Of course I need you.” Lacey linked her arm into Jim’s. “You’re not just my guard, you’re my friend.”

“Thank you.” Jim playfully nudged her. “I thought I was just your human punch bag.” He Grinned.

When Lacey returned home with Jim, she didn’t feel too well, she was still wound up about her argument with Racheal. She curled up on the sofa with her puppy who she had named Bonnie and flicked through the TV channels trying to find something to watch to take her mind off things. But it didn’t help, all she could think about was what Racheal had said, Evan will get bored of her and he likes his women too much.

Tears slowly welled in Lacey’s eyes as she snuggled into Bonnie, she knew little about Evan’s life. Charlotte may have told her that Evan had never lived with anyone but she didn’t know about the women in his life before her. Was Rachael right with what she had just said? She should know, she had known Evan longer. Lacey’s confidence began to fade, she didn’t understand why Evan would want to marry her, she was nothing compared to the beautiful women she had seen at the restaurant. Lacey closed her eyes, once again she was feeling confused.

Jim entered the room with his mobile, Evan wanted to talk to her.

“Tell him I’m sleeping.” Lacey snapped.

Jim stepped back, surprised with her attitude. He didn’t know what was wrong with her, she seemed fine when they returned home. “Lacey you know I can’t tell him that.”

Lacey jumped up from the sofa. “Tell him to go and ring one of his other women.” She cried running out of the room.

Evan didn’t understand why Lacey wouldn’t speak to him until Jim told him about what had happened with Racheal in the store.

Lacey ran into the bedroom and dived on the bed sobbing, she was angry with herself now for letting Racheal get to her, again.

Lacey stayed in the bedroom for the rest of the day, Jim kept knocking the door, telling her Evan was on the phone wanting to talk to her. Feeling awful for what she had said, Lacey was ashamed to talk to Evan and thought he would be angry with her and didn’t want another argument, she just wanted to hide away from everything around her. After trying to relax with a long soak in the bath, she still felt wound up. Changing into her nighty, Lacey went to bed and cried herself to sleep.

At one in the morning, Evan arrived home, he was going to surprise Lacey and fly back the next day with Ralph and Charlotte but after what she had said, he knew Rachael would be playing on her mind and caught the first available flight home.

As he crept in the bedroom he could see Lacey sleeping on her side in the middle of the bed. Even though he was annoyed with her, he couldn’t help but think how sexy she looked in her little silk nighty. Quietly getting undressed, he climbed into the bed and lay on his side in next to her and began to stroke her around her waist, gently rocking her to wake her up. Lacey hummed a little and stirred but didn’t wake. Evan pulled Lacey’s leg over him, stroking her backside and began to kiss her neck.

Lacey suddenly opened her eyes, surprised to see Evan lying in the bed next to her and snuggled into him. “I’m sorry.” She whispered.

Evan sighed and moved her hair from her face. “What you said today was wrong. Don’t you ever say that to me again, you know I love you?”

Lacey could see how hurt he was. “I won’t, it’s just.”

“Leave it now, we will talk about it in the morning.”

Evan soon fell asleep tired from his flight home while Lacey lay awake for the rest of the night feeling guilty. She wished she had taken the mobile off Jim and spoken to Evan and was nervous now knowing she was going to have to face him in the morning to explain why she had been a bitch to him.

At eight in the morning, Lacey was downstairs having a drink when she heard the front door open and went to see who it was, it was Mart from security.

“Where’s Evan?” he asked, looking serious.

“He’s still in bed, why?” she asked.

“Can you go and wake him up the police are at the gates?”

Lacey began to panic a little. “Why?”

Mart rubbed his forehead, he looked stressed. “Just go and get him please.”

Lacey ran upstairs to the bedroom and shook Evan a couple of times to wake him and told him the police were at the gates wanting to talk to him.

Evan rolled over and sighed. “What for?”

“I don’t know.” Lacey shrugged. “Marts downstairs, he’s just told me to come and get you.”

“Shit.” Evan mumbled as he jumped out of bed and hurriedly dressed and rushed out of the bedroom.

“What have you done Evan?” Lacey cried.

Evan didn’t answer her and Lacey began to panic, she ran downstairs after him but he had already left the house to go to the security room to talk to the police through the intercom.

Sitting on the stairs waiting for Evan to return, Lacey felt sick, she was worried what the police wanted him for. Fifteen minutes later Evan came back into the house and did not look happy. He didn’t speak to Lacey he just walked past her and went into his office slamming the door behind him.

Lacey was too scared to follow him into his office; she knew something was wrong. She could hear him shouting at someone on the phone but couldn’t make out what he was saying.

Half an hour later Jim turned up and went straight into the office, minutes later Charles, Evan’s solicitor arrived and joined them. When Lacey saw Charles, she began to panic, something must be seriously wrong if he had turned up. Lacey ran to the bathroom and was sick.

When she came out of the bathroom, Evan, Jim and Charles were in the hallway talking. Evan was rubbing his face, he looked worried as he turned to Lacey.

Lacey nervously bit her fingernails as she approached them. “Evan, what did the police want you for?”

Evan shook his head and sighed. “They weren’t here for me Lacey.”

Lacey was confused. “Then why were they here?”

Evan paused before he answered. “They were here for you.”
