Everything was silent in the car as the words, because I love you, echoed through Lacey’s head. She blinked several times and shook her head thinking she had heard wrong. “What?”

Evan gazed into her eyes and gently stroked her face. “I love you.”

Lacey closed her eyes to try and process what he had just said, surely she was she dreaming. She looked back at him and nervously swallowed. “Since when?”

Evan shrugged his shoulders. “Honestly Lacey, I don’t know, maybe from the first time we slept together.”

Lacey gasped. “But that was weeks ago!”

Evan grimaced and nodded.

Lacey sat up and rubbed her face. “Why didn’t you tell me then?”

“Because I wasn’t sure.” Evan stroked the hair off Lacey’s face and tucked it behind her ear. “But I am now.”

Lacey shook her head in disbelief. “Then why didn’t you tell me when you were?”

Evan sighed. “Because I didn’t know how to.”

Lacey moved around and straddled over him, she ran her hands over his chest and stroked up his neck. “So, you’re sure now, are you?”

Evan gripped her waist and pulled her closer to him. “I’ve never been so sure about anything in my life. Now tell me how you feel about me.”

Lacey leaned forward, her mouth hovered over his as she gazed into Evan eyes. She gently rocked her body against him, running her fingers through his hair, her body tingled all over from the touch of his strong warm hands caressing around her back.

Lacey moved back and smiled. “Oh I love you more than you will ever know Evan.” Tears rose in her eyes. “But I don’t believe you love me.”

Evan sat back. “What, why’s that?” He asked, feeling confused.

Lacey slapped him hard across the face. “You bastard, you were trying to sell me online, how can you do that to someone you supposedly love?” she screamed and went to slap him again.

Evan grabbed her arms. “I’m sorry, it was a moment of madness. I can’t take your name off but I’m bidding high to keep you safe.” He wrestled her onto the seat and held her hands above her head. “If you don’t believe me, ask Ralph and Charlotte!”

The car stopped outside Evan’s house waiting for the gates to open. Lacey’s head began to spin. “Let me out.” She cried, struggling to get away from him. “I can’t breathe.”

Evan didn’t want to let her out of the car until they had drove through the gates and they were securely closed behind them. Lacey’s head rolled back and her body fell limp on the seat. “Lacey!” Evan cried, shaking her. He pulled her into his arms and cradled her, she had passed out.

When Evan carried Lacey into the house, Charlotte ran to him, “What have you done to her?” She cried.

“Nothing!” Evan snapped and lay her on the sofa. “She’s just passed out.” He turned to Ralph. “Has anyone else bid for her?”

Ralph nodded. “Yes it’s at seven now.”

“Ok, put one million on.” He poured himself a drink and knocked it back. “How longs left?”

Ralph glanced at his watch. “Eight hours.”

Evan rubbed his face with both hand and gazed at Lacey lying on the sofa. “Keep on top of it, it’s not like I’m going to lose anything is it.” He turned to Ralph and grinned. “Unless you take your percentage.”

Ralph frowned. “You know I won’t do that!”

Evan laughed. “I know you won’t.” He stroked the hair from Lacey’s face and sighed. “Charlotte, let me know when she wakes up.” He asked as he left the room with Ralph.

Charlotte was fuming with Evan; She stood with her hands on her hips, shaking her head with disbelief. He had been out of his mind with worry while Lacey was missing and now she was back he had dumped her on the sofa and gone straight to his office.

Charlotte sat on the sofa next to Lacey and held her hand, Lacey’s eyes flickered a little before they opened and stared blankly at her. “Where’s Evan?”

“He’s with Ralph in his office.” She placed a cushion under Lacey’s head. “How have you feeling?”

Tears filled Lacey’s eyes, her bottom lip began to tremble, Charlotte sat her up and hugged her. Lacey dropped her head against Charlottes shoulder and began to sob.

Charlotte gently rocked her. “Shall we go for a cigarette?”

Lacey nodded. “Yes,” She sniffled, wiping her nose on her arm. She linked arms with Charlotte walked to patio with her.

They lit their cigarettes and Charlotte rung Evan to let him know that Lacey had woken up and where they were. She was about to disconnect the call when Evan told her to put her phone on the table still connected and was told to ask Lacey what went on between her and Jack while she was with him.

On the way to the patio Charlotte had picked up a bottle of wine and two glasses, she poured them both a drink and settled down to talk. “So tell me.” She took a sip of her wine. “What’s it like to be kidnapped?” She giggled.

Lacey sat back in her chair and stared at Charlotte. “Are you taking the piss!” She snapped.

Charlotte grimaced a little. “I’m sorry I was just curious.”

“Well, it was scary.” Lacey took a long draw of her cigarette and gazed across the garden. “Especially when you wake up tied up in a room and you don’t know where you are.”

“How did he get you?” Charlotte noticed that Lacey hadn’t drunk any of her drink. “Aren’t you drinking? She asked moving the glass of wine closer to her.

“No I feel sick.” Lacey rubbed her face and sat forward. “I went for a coffee with Jack because I felt sorry for him, he just wanted to talk and clear the air between us and he drugged me.” She paused and thought about it for a second. “Well, I think he did, then I woke up tied up in his bedroom.”

Charlotte’s eyes widened. “Did he hurt you?”

“Yeah.” Lacey held her arm up and pointed to her wrist. “The handcuffs hurt like hell and he slapped me a couple of times.”

Charlotte squirmed in her seat at the sight of Lacey’s sore wrists. “That’s awful but what meant was.” She nervously licked her lips. “Did he try anything on with you or like, rape you?”

“No he didn’t! Lacey cried and stood up. “What’s with all the questions?”

Charlotte sat back in her chair feeling a nervous, she had seen enough of Lacey’s temper to know not to push her too much. “I’m sorry, I just thought you’d need a friend to talk too. You know like, get it off your chest.”

Lacey rolled her head back and laughed. “You a friend?” She pointed at Charlotte. “You knew about the bidding and didn’t tell me.”

Charlotte shook her head. “I didn’t know that Evan had put your name on our website until the other day. I would never have let him do that without your permission.” She nervously chewed the inside of her mouth, hoping that Evan or Ralph would make up an excuse to call her in for something.

Lacey was shocked. “So it’s your website?”

Charlotte nodded.

Lacey sat down, staring at Charlotte. “I don’t understand.”

Charlotte didn’t want to explain the website to Lacey right then, it was more important for her to try and help fix things between her and Evan. “When you were taken by Jack, Evan was out of his mind worrying about you. He loves you so much and like I’ve told you before, I’ve never seen him that with anyone but you. Do you remember me saying that?”

Lacey sighed. “Yes I remember.”

“And I know you love him.” Charlotte leaned across the table and gently squeezed Lacey’s hands. “If you both could take time to talk things through, you can get through this.”

Lacey pulled her hands away and slumped in her chair. “But he tried to sell me online.”

“No he didn’t.” Charlotte moved from her chair to sit closer to Lacey. “He just put you up out of curiosity, all along he was going to outbid everyone. He knows he’s a fool for doing that, he’s in his office right now watching the bids. And he’s just put a million on for you.”

Lacey gasped. “A million!”

Charlotte nodded. “Yes, someone put seven hundred thousand on you so he bid a million and he will go more if anyone outbids him.”

Lacey’s stomach churned, she jumped off her chair, ran to the grass and threw up. Charlotte walked over to her and rubbed her back. “What are you going to do now Lacey, are you going to sort things out with Evan?”

Lacey stood up and wiped her face. “I don’t feel well; I need to go and lie down.” She pushed Charlotte aside and began to walk away. “Tell Evan to stay away from me I need to think.”

“Lacey!” Charlotte cried in despair, throwing her arms in the air. Why are you fighting your feelings for Evan?”

“I have my reasons.”

“Please don’t do anything stupid until you have spoken to him. Charlotte begged. “Promise me that will you speak to him,”

Lacey stopped walking and turned to face Charlotte. “I don’t know.” She wrung her hands. “I do love him but it’s been a nightmare all this time thinking I was just his whore. He should have told me sooner that he loved me, it might have been different then.” She cried and ran into the house.

Lacey lay on Evans bed sobbing and once again she was confused and frightened. She thought back to the time when she first saw Evan in the alley, he scared her. Then the night in the restaurant, he scared her again but was a gentleman all night and kept his word and let her go with the money he promised. When she was first taken to his house, again, he scared her but he spoiled her and always gave her compliments on how she looked when she dressed for their evening meal together. Why did he search for her and rescue her from Jack? Even though he had told her that he loved her, she didn’t have the confidence to understand why.

When Evan told her that Jack was going back to his wife, she could see he was lying to her, she isn’t stupid, she knew Jack was dead. Did knowing about two murders and not saying anything about it make her as bad as him?

When Racheal spat the words, “your only Evans whore,” and “I’m only saying what everyone else is thinking,” Lacey knew deep down in her heart she couldn’t stay with him because that’s all people would be see her as and she didn’t want to be seen in the same light as her mother.

Lacey curled up on the bed and decided, in the morning she was going to tell Evan that she was leaving. She had to stay strong and stand her ground with him now because there was one big reason that she needed to leave, she held onto her stomach, she knew why she was being sick. Her period was two weeks late and she could possibly be pregnant.

Lol, if you remember at the beginning Evan was going to call his doctor to sort her with the pill, Lacey may be wise to a lot of things but has never had no female guidance with girly things, it's actually quite funny when she realises what she has done wrong with the pills :)
