When Lacey and Charlotte arrived at the restaurant they were drunk. The climbed out of the car, linked arms and staggered into the restaurant giggling. Lacey threw her arms in the air. “The boss’s wife is here.” she cried.

Everyone in the restaurant went silent and stared at them as they staggered towards the bar, laughing like they were crazy. Lacey leaned over the bar and grabbed the barman by his tie. “Take us into the back room.” She ordered, nearly dragging him over the counter.

The staff knew who she was and didn’t dare refuse her, Lacey loved that bit of power she had over them. Walking into the back room, Mike was shocked when he saw her. Lacey blew him a kiss and walked across to Evan’s table and sat in his chair. A waitress went over to them to ask what drinks they would like, Charlotte stroked her hand up the waitress’s skirt and told her what they wanted.

“What are you doing to the poor girl?” Lacey laughed.

“I’m just teasing her, haven’t you ever been with a woman?” she giggled.

Lacey sat back in her chair, shocked at Charlotte’s behaviour. “No I haven’t!”

Charlotte leaned across and put her hands on Lacey’s knees then began to slowly run them up her legs. “I think you’d be up for it.”

Lacey pushed her hands away and laughed. “sorry, you haven’t got the right bits.”

Charlotte smiled. “you can have Ralphs as long as I’m there with you.”

Lacey rubbed her face and laughed. “Are you being serious?”

Charlotte smiled and nodded. “We’d pay good money for someone like you.”

Lacey stared at Charlotte, she didn’t understand why she had just said that, she was just about to ask her what she meant when they noticed Racheal walk in the room through the side door.

Charlotte’s eyes lit up when she saw her, she took a sip of her drink and licked her lips. “My luck is in tonight, if you don’t beat her too bad.”

Lacey gasped and scowled at the blond bitch walking across the room. “What, Racheal?”

“Oh yeah, me and Ralph were with her last night.” She ran her fingers through her hair and gazed up at the ceiling. “She’s our favourite girl.” She then called Racheal over to them.

Racheal looked happy to see Charlotte when she called her over to her but what she hadn’t noticed, was Lacey sitting at the table too. She had been in her room with a punter when they had arrived.

“Racheal darling.” Charlotte said, stroking her backside. “Will you get me and my new lover another drink please?”

Racheal’s smile faded when she realised Lacey was at the table sitting in Evan’s chair.

“Hello Rachael.” Lacey grinned. “Sit down!”

Racheal nervously licked her lips, sat down and side glanced Charlotte. She just knew that Charlotte had told Lacey what she had said about her.

Lacey rolled her head trying to release the tension that was building up in her neck. She glared across the table at Rachael. “Now are you going to tell me to my face what you said last night?” Lacey then noticed that the room had gone quiet, she turned around and everyone was staring at her. “What are you all staring at!” She cried. “Keep your noses out of my business, it’s got nothing to do with you!”

Lacey had no idea who she had just shouted at, most of them were associates of Evans.

Racheal scowled at Lacey with eyes full of hate. “I was only saying what everyone else is thinking.” she snarled.

Lacey’s heart pounded through her chest. “Don’t ever slag me off again, do you hear me bitch?” Lacey cried, she lunged across the table, grabbed Racheal by the hair, dragged her over the table and punched her twice in the face.

“You think you’re better than everyone, don’t you?” Racheal screamed. “But all you are is Evan’s whore!”

Lacey lost control of herself, she slammed Rachael’s face several times on the table then pressed her knee on Racheal’s back to hold her down and reached for her bag. She grabbed the gun and pressed it against Racheal’s head. “Say that again bitch.” She growled.

“Lacey, no!” Charlotte screamed, backing away from the table in fright.

Rachael lay over the table sobbing and was too scared to move, she really believed that Lacey was going to shoot her.

Mike was already on his mobile to Evan telling him that Lacey was in the back room with Charlotte and now had to tell him she had a gun at Racheal’s head. He nervously walked across to Lacey and handed her his mobile, Evan wanted to speak to her. No one had noticed that her and Charlotte had left the house.

Still holding Racheal down on the table with her knee on her back and the gun at her head. Lacey snatched the mobile off Mike.

“Hello Evan.” Lacey said chirpily.

Evan was furious with her. “Lacey put the fucking gun down!” He growled.

Lacey knew he was at home and there was nothing he could do about it. “Or what!” She challenged.

He paced around the dining room, adrenaline pumped through his body, at that moment, given the chance, he would have shot Lacey himself for what she was doing right then. “I said put the gun down and get home now!” He shouted.

“I haven’t got a fucking home!” She screamed.

Tiny beads of sweat formed across Evan brow, his mind was racing. Where had she got the gun from? Was it loaded? He didn’t know. Taking a few deep breaths, he needed to calm down, he knew shouting at her would wind her up all the more. “Lacey.” He said as calmly as he could. “Please listen to me, don’t do anything stupid.”

Lacey could hear the fear in his voice but it wasn’t for her it was for him; it was his gun she had. “What do you care Evan, I’m only a whore!”

“You’re not a fucking whore!” Evan screamed.

Tears rolled down her face. “Yes I am.” She whispered. Lacey dropped the mobile and looked at Charlotte who was now the other side of the room sobbing against a man’s chest.

“I’m sorry Charlotte.” Lacey said and pressed the gun harder into the side of Rachael’s head. Rachael screamed as Lacey pulled the trigger …… nothing happened. Racheal screamed louder and struggled to try and get away from Lacey. She pulled the trigger again …… nothing happened.

Lacey rolled her eyes. “Fuckin hell!” she cried throwing her arms up in the air as if to admit defeat. She looked at Charlotte and laughed. “I can’t even do this right, can I?” Lacey put the gun to her head and pulled the trigger, again nothing happened. There were no bullets in the gun, Lacey had just assumed there were.

Mike lunged across the room to grab the gun off Lacey and they both fell on the floor. Racheal run for the door screaming, Lacey jumped up, kicked her heels off and ran after her. Everything went dark and silent around her all she could see ahead of her was her nemesis. Grabbing Racheal by her hair, Lacey yanked her back, pulling her down to the ground, she straddled over her and punched her in her face over and over again. There was no fight in Rachael, she just screamed and tried to deflect Lacey’s assault.

Out of breath, Lacey stood up and wiped her forehead with the back of her hand. Her hands they were covered in blood. Racheal rolled around on the floor groaning, her mouth and nose were bleeding and her face was swollen. Lacey staggered to her table holding her head with both hands, she picked up her drink and knocked it back. Lacey couldn’t speak, with a wave of her hand she summoned a waitress over and gave her the empty glass and pointed to it, she wanted another drink. She looked back across the room at Racheal, another waitress was helping her up off the floor to take her out of the room.

Lacey dropped into her chair, she was exhausted. Charlotte nervously approached her. “Lacey, we’d better go home now.” she said softly.

“Give me a minute, I need to get changed.” she answered taking her drink off the waitress and knocked it back. Lacey rolled her head back and looked up at the waitress. “Have you got any clothes here?”

The waitress nodded.

“Can I have something to get changed into, I’ll make sure you get it back?”

The waitress nodded again.

“Hurry up then and nothing slutty.” She shouted.

Lacey stood up to go the toilet to wash the blood off her, she told Charlotte not to follow her, she wanted to be on her own. Mike came across to her with this mobile again, Evan wanted to talk to her, Lacey just shook her head and walked away.

Lacey stared at herself in the mirror, there was blood smudged over her face where she had rubbed it. Inside she felt numb, she had no regrets for what she had just done to Rachael. As she was washing the blood off, the waitress brought a white summer dress with a faded floral pattern on it. “Thank you.” She said holding it up to take a better look at it and smiled. “I’ll make sure you get it back.”

“No you keep it, what you’ve just done to Racheal is what us girls here have always wanted to do.” she laughed as she walked away.

When Lacey returned to the back room, Charlotte was talking on her mobile. Lacey ordered another drink and sat down, Charlotte tried to pass her mobile to Lacey.

“Is that Evan?” she asked.

Charlotte nodded.

Lacey disconnected the call. “I have nothing to say to him anymore.”

Charlotte knew Evan was on his way to come and get Lacey but there had been an accident on the main road and he was stuck in traffic. He had told her not to let Lacey know and to keep her at the restaurant. “Lacey please talk to him; he just wants you to go back home.”

Tears began to well in Lacey’s eyes. “What for? I told you about the debt, that’s the only reason why I was there. I don’t owe him anything now” She slumped in her chair and dropped her head in her hands. “Oh god I feel such a fool now!”

“What’s wrong hunni?” Charlotte wrapped her arm around Lacey. “Why are you a fool?”

Lacey looked up at Charlotte, tears were now streaming down her face. “Because I fell in love with him and I’m not going to make a fool of myself by living with someone that doesn’t love me.” She sat back in her chair and lit a cigarette. “Charlotte call your driver and go back to Ralph, you’re so lucky to have him.”

“No, let’s just stay here for a while and talk.” Charlotte’s mobile began to ring, it was Evan. He was calling to let her know he was out of the traffic and on his way.

Lacey leaned over the table and cut the call, “I’d better get out of here now, I’ve just realised something.”

“What?” Charlotte curiously asked.

“I’ve just battered Racheal again, I’m gonna owe Evan another debt for his losses,” she laughed.

Charlotte pretended to phone her driver and quickly text Evan telling him to hurry up, Lacey was close to leaving. They both walked outside to the front of the restaurant. Charlotte held her cigarette packet out. “Another smoke before you leave?” She smiled.

Lacey sighed, she hadn’t got any tobacco and knew it could be days before she earned any money. “Can I have the packet, I’ve got none.” She grimaced.

Charlotte felt like her heart was going to break, she didn’t want her new friend to leave. “Please don’t leave!” She cried, throwing her arms around Lacey. “Believe me, you have got it so wrong about Evan, I’ve told you before, I’ve seen the way he looks at you, he does love you.” She babbled on through her tears.

Lacey gently moved Charlotte away from her, “I’m sorry, I’ve got to go now.”

While Lacey hugged Charlotte goodbye, a car pulled up by the side of them and two men got out dressed in jeans and t-shirts. One stood by the car holding the door open and the other walked towards them.

“Lacey Jackson?”

“Yes?” Lacey answered, wondering who he was.

The man grabbed her by her arm and pushed her against the wall, Lacey realised what was happening when her hands were being cuffed behind her back. “Lacey Jackson, you are under arrest for the assault on Racheal Lewis………”

Lacey laughed as he read her, her rights. “Bye Charlotte.” she shouted as the man shoved her in the back of the car.

On the drive to the police station, Lacey gazed out of the car window, she felt strangely calm. She huffed a little laugh at good cop bad cop that were in the car with her. The one sitting next to her was trying to make friendly conversation with her, while the silent moody one sat in the front passenger seat and hadn’t even acknowledged her presence.

Arriving at the station, Lacey was taken straight to an interview room, she thought it was strange because they should have taken her photo and fingerprinted her first. A policewoman took a coffee into her and told her she was allowed one phone call. Lacey refused it, she didn’t have anyone to call.

Bored of waiting for the police to come and interview her, Lacey leaned against the wall in the interview room, picking the paint off the wall. She could hear voices outside but couldn’t quite make out what was being said. Lacey knew she was in trouble, Racheal must have told the police everything what had happened at the restaurant but she didn’t care, she had nothing to lose. When the door of the interview room finally opened, Lacey didn’t bother to turn around, she kept her face to the wall and could hear two men’s voices as they entered the room.

“Miss Jackson, will you sit down please?” one of the men asked.

Lacey recognised the voice, it was the policeman that was sitting in the back of the car with her. She didn’t answer, she just shook her head.

He then told her that before they questioned her about the assault on Racheal they wanted to discuss something else with her first.

Lacey’s heart began to pound through her chest she guessed straight away that they wanted to talk about Evan.

A chair scraped over the floor as the man sat down. “Miss Jackson, we know you have been living with Evan Durber. If you willing to give us any information on him, we will keep you safe in return.”

Lacey stayed silent, still picking the paint off the wall and shook her head. There was no way she was going to tell them anything. She heard the man tell the other that maybe he should try and talk to her. The door clicked shut when he left the room.

Lacey began to feel nervous, she knew the other man was now in the room alone with her and began to feel nervous. Her body tensed when she heard him approaching her.

“Hello Lacey.” She heard a familiar voice say.

She tried to figure out where she had heard it before but couldn’t. “Leave me alone!” She cried. “I’m not telling you anything!”

Warm hands gently rested on her shoulders. “Will you turn around please and look at me.” The voice softly said. “I thought you always wanted to see how ugly my face was without a beard?”

Lacey’s heart leapt. “Jack!” She gasped.
