Chapter 4: Ensnared

Bright lights were orange behind Haley’s eyelids. She heard the voice of a man and a woman. Both were unfamiliar to her. Her head dropped to the right as she tried to open her eyes. The crust in them kept them glued shut.

“Jesus, do you see all of that blood? What did she do to piss him off?” Asked the female voice.

“All a person has to do is breathe the wrong way and Shane reacts.”

Warm hands framed Haley’s face. “Nose is bruised but not broken. Top lip is cut in the center. Must have been wearing one of his rings when he hit her.” Said the woman.

“I’m sure that was intentional. Did you check for…?”

“Not yet. I’ll check now. She looks innocent but one can never be too sure.”

“That’s true.”

Haley tried to move but for some reason, she couldn’t shake the grogginess. Was she drugged?

It wasn’t until she heard her boots drop to the ground that she realized that her pants were coming down. She screamed ‘no’ in her head but for some reason, her mouth couldn’t move. Her throat was dry and scratchy. Her arms attempted to cooperate, but they only lifted a bit, as well as her legs.

“Shit, I think she’s waking up. You saw that movement?” asked the man.

“Yes, I saw.” The touch that Haley guessed belonged to the woman was gentle as she pulled Haley’s feet on stirrups at the end of the uncomfortable table. Haley tried to gain feeling back in her body. Being so exposed with no control made her want to scream. No, she had to fight this. There was no gun to her head, no threat on her family’s life. She tried to move, and she could swear she did a bit, but it wasn’t enough.

“Just relax, sweetheart. It won’t hurt.”
She felt a hand on the most intimate part of her and she began to silently cry. She willed her fists to ball but all her hands did were twitch.

The woman pulled her lower lips apart, studying her.

“Well?” Haley could hear the male voice closer than before.

"Virginity still intact.”

The man chuckles. “No doubt Shane’s going to enjoy that.”

Shane. 5..4..3..2.. Darkness.

Haley forced her eyes open, despite the pain of parting her lids. The bright whiteness of the room made her squint. She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment before reopening them and looking around. White tile walls, metal instruments on tables, and no windows. Panicked, she looked down to the woman between her legs and then to the man standing beside her.

The woman smiled politely. “Hi, sweetheart. It’s nice to see those pretty blue eyes.”

Haley’s chest rose and fell rapidly. “Wha-what…who are you?” She whispered.

"My name is Pamela but you can call me Pam.”

Haley studied her white lab coat and noted that she didn’t have any gloves on. Which meant…she touched Haley down there with her bare hands.
Her stomach turned in disgust.

“A-Are you a doctor?”

“I’m more of a nurse.” She replied before she glanced to the man next to her. “This is Cole.”

His eyes moved from hers to back between her legs. In response, Haley tried to close them.

“Oh, I’m sorry, dear.” Pamela pulled a thin off-white sheet off of a table and covered Haley’s lower half.

Haley swallowed hard and looked to the wooden door a few feet away, and then to Pam. “Where am I?”

“Never you mind that right now. I’m going give you a nice shower so you can clean all that blood off of your face, then I’ll cover that cut on your lip, and we can follow that with a nice hot meal. How does that sound?”

Haley looked into her eyes. “Please, I don’t belong here. My address is 4497 Prospect Valley-“

“Shhh.” Pam touched her shoulder soothingly. “One step at a time. You’ll get a shower, I’ll clean your cut and then you’ll get a fresh meal.”

Haley looked to the man for help but he just sent her a smile-one that lacked any morality.

“Please,”

Pam gave her a sweet smile and gently ran her fingers through Haley’s hair. “All you have to do is do whatever he says, and you’ll be fine. “

Haley shook her head, her breath picking up.

“Don’t forget the uh…”

“Right. I haven’t.” Pam moved out of view to the rows of cabinets and drawers behind her.

Cole stepped up between Haley’s legs. He placed a hand on her knee and slid it up to her thigh. She tried to kick him. She wasn’t able to put enough force behind her because of whatever was left in her system. Cole laughed.

When Pam came back over, it was only then that Haley realized that she was limping. Pam slapped Cole’s hand. “You know he’ll kill you if you touch any of them. Stop it.”
Them? There were more?

“Whatever.” Cole stepped away and Pam walked back over to the drawers. Haley heard some movement and tried to turn her head to see what Pam was doing, but she was out of her view.

“What are you doing?” Haley asked.

Pam came back into Haley’s view wheeling a metal cart with a small tray. On the tray was an alcohol packet and a syringe.

The needle was what kicked a strong surge of adrenaline into  her system, overpowering whatever drug was given to her in her unconscious state. She started to fight and squirm around. She knocked the tray over and sat up, a scream bubbled out of her throat as she tried to get off the table. Cole grabbed her shoulders and slammed her back down onto the table, making her cry out as she hit her head.

Pamela picked up the tray and needle and sighed. “Hold her down.”

“No!” Haley kicked, her sheet falling off of her.

“You need to relax. It’s not going to put you to sleep. You’ll be grateful that I gave you this shot.”

What could be in that syringe that would ever make her grateful?

“Right, you don’t want Shane getting you pregnant now, do you?” Cole asked.

Haley’s eyes widened. She knew that there was the possibility that Shane would rape her, but the fact that these two were confirming it made dread curl in her stomach. She felt sick.

“Please help me.”

Pam shook her head. “I’m sorry, love. I can’t. Now please hold still.”

Haley cried as Cole held her down, and Pam injected her with the shot.

She squeezed her eyes shut.

“All done.” Pam placed the empty syringe back on the tray and wheeled the cart away.

 **********************************************

Haley stood against a wall, shivering as cold water hit her naked skin. She tried to cover her breasts, as well as between her legs.
Cole laughed as he hit Haley with another burst of cold water, making her screech. She tried to simultaneously block the blast from the hose that Cole was holding, as well as cover up her nakedness.

“I’ve seen it anyway, splayed open with your legs apart and your feet in stirrups.”

The reality of her situation hit her ten times harder than the icy blast. A grown man has seen her naked. Shane might see her naked. The thought sent a quiver down her spine. She should have never went for her backpack. Rachel would have told her to run and forget her photo.

She was brought out of her thoughts with another powerful slosh of water. It pressed her up against the wall, forcing a scream out of her. She could hear Cole’s laughter above the water.
Haley couldn’t take it anymore, she shot off towards the door that Pam was standing in front of.

Pam looked down at her with no emotion.

Haley thought that since Pam was a female herself, maybe she could connect with her. Why would a woman want to keep another woman in captivity? Shouldn’t they have some connection? She grabbed Pam’s shoulders and looked up at her, tears in her eyes and hair sticking to her wet face. “Please, make him stop. Let me go, please!” She begged.

Pam sighed and brought Haley into an embrace. “Shh.” She rocked her and turned her so that Haley could see Cole. Pam brought her lips to Haley’s ear and whispered, “I’ve tried, and I’ve failed. I can’t try anymore.”

Pam pulled back and gave her a soothing smile. “Your shower isn’t over, love. Get back over there. Shouldn’t be much longer.”

Pam was taller than her, possibly outweighed her by fifty pounds or so.
She shook her head. “You’re not getting through the door, love.”

A familiar click triggered her nerves. She knew what that sound was. She didn’t have to turn around to know that Cole was holding a gun.

"Shane told me you’re very receptive to guns.”

She closed her eyes. She didn’t want to die. But would death be any worse than what was going to happen to her? She was brought here, violated by the hands of strangers, given a birth control shot and forced to shower in cold water. Shane had plans for her. That was evident. As much as those potential plans scared her, so did death. She slowly stepped away from Pam and went back over to the wall to face Cole. She took the water, with her eyes squeezed shut and her fists balled.

Afterwards, her lip was patched up and she was given clean clothes to put on. A cotton pair of sweats with a t-shirt and her boots.

“Alright, looks like she’s ready to go.” Pam said, smiling.
Go?

“Thanks, Pam.” Cole grinned at her and gave her a hug. As soon as he could no longer see her face, she gave the darkest glare as she stared blankly at the wall.
She wasn’t okay with this after all, Haley concluded. If Cole hadn’t been here, Pam probably would have helped her escape.

They probably could both take Cole down. There were medical instruments in the room that could be used as weapons. As Haley surveyed the room, she heard a shift of movement that caught her attention.

Pam mouthing the word “no” before she pulled back from Cole and smiled at him. “Alright, go get her dressed up and fed. I’m sure Shane is missing his shiny new toy.”

Cole smirked. “He already broke it a little. Then again, maybe it was just foreplay on his part.”
Pam turned away, limped to the sink and washed her hands.

Haley wondered what happened to her. Was this what Pam meant by her trying and failing save her? Did she try to save some of the others and it resulted in her limp?

Let’s go.” Cole grabbed the nape of Haley’s neck and led her outside. She noticed two men standing on either side of the door they just exited. When Haley noticed her surroundings, a gasp caught in her throat.

Just outside of the tiny brick building they just left was a large three story mansion that surrounded them, enclosing them in a complete inescapable square.
The mansion stood so tall, it cut the sun off, leaving the small grassy area in dark shade. The only possible way out would have been somehow cutting through the walls of Pam’s make-shift doctor’s office. Which is why as much as Pam wanted to help her, she wasn’t going to take the chance. There was no chance.

Cole squeezed the nape of Haley’s neck and smiled down at her. “Time to go see Shane.”

Oh this was way too short. This is so scary that there is a gang if people. Thinking such despicable behavior is acceptable. Poor Pam. She has been broken. H will end up the same way, or killed, or exchanged for a newer, shiny model. But before any of this. I hope she takes out his eyes so that he is just as broken as his victims so that he knows how it feels.

Yes, Shane has a gang of people beneath his control. It’s one thing if it’s one person but one sadistic person having others go along with his sick behavior is just fucked up. Pam fought in the beginning but obviously something happened to make her quit, so the chances of her helping are slim. As for if Shane will get punished for all of this... we’ll see. Thank you for reading.

I can feel things are going to get worse for Hayley, I guess with all the people Shane has working for him there will be no escape for a long time for her. :)

LOVE. IT! I felt vulnerable with her, with her legs up and in the stirrups and all. I’m almost 26 and still a virgin, I’d hate for a man to see my vagina without my consent.

I wanted to do some more planning before continuing to write this story but honestly my mind has been on other things lately. However, I have been thinking about this story a lot the past couple of days so it’s very possible that the next chapter would be out by the weekend.

This is an excellent chapter, Ice. For the most part it's action, dialogue, and description with interspersed thoughts on Haley's part. No omniscient narrative. I love the detail of your descriptions, the melancholy of the situation, the cold unforgiving atmosphere. There's something truly terrifying about medical professionals gone awry. Pam describes herself as a nurse. She's wearing a lab coat. She's stuck in the middle of an unspeakable and maniacal process that we are lead to believe is self propagating and ongoing.

I like the limp that you give Pam because it's a part of her description that lets you know she too is vulnerable. The dark expression you describe when she turns away from Cole is enough to alert Haley that Pam is a victim too and that, in fact, she can empathize with her pain. It makes you wonder if Pam might have been in Haley's position at one point and time. Certainly, as a reader, I'm much more curious about Pam than Cole. She maintains a somewhat professional demeanor in the face of a situation quite the opposite of a caring medical facility. She's out of place. She cooperates under duress.

Cole, on the other hand, is trying to get away with whatever he can. He's a perv in the perfect position, helping out in the infirmary (if you could consider this place such).

The click you mention in this chapter I expected to be Shane lighting his cigarette, not Cole with a firearm. Up to now, it's been a signature sound for Shane. I'm not sure I like it here in reference to a handgun...particularly since we know Cole is not going to use it. There's no way Cole would kill Shane's 'toy'. We intuitively know that both these characters are subordinates to Shane and would be in a shit ton of trouble if things didn't go smoothly. In any case, I've noted your use of the cigarette lighter in previous chapters, and I like how you do that. I prefer consistency with something that unique.

The fortress surrounding the courtyard is extremely imposing. That's a nice touch which deserves the utmost descriptive care. It implies that Shane is untouchable and massively wealthy. The potential for a 'supernatural' element is still not beyond my grasp as a reader. How does a man so young possess such wealth and power? How does he establish dominion over so many? Why is he out in the common world making illegal U Turns in a sports car and accosting young girls on the front steps of churches? How does he pop up out of nowhere and how does he know just who is vulnerable? There's something immortal about him and it's reflected by the 'click'.....the fact that he smokes like a stack but still looks so amazing.

Yes, this chapter was more of Haley's thoughts and feelings, definitely leaning more towards her. This chapter was probably my favorite one to write, because it's such a different atmosphere from where the story was before. She's thrown into a weird situation, not knowing what was going on but knowing it has something to do with Shane which terrifies her.

I'm glad you noticed that Pam too seems to be a hostage in some similar way. Don't want to say yet whether she's been in Haley's exact position but you can tell from the limp that everything she'd doing is not of her free volition. That if she had it her own way, she would've helped Haley as well as has tries to help others in the past. Cole of course is a greedy man with little rules. He figures that because the life Shane leads where himself as well as Shane are safe from the law, he can pretty much do just about anything he wants.

I know what you mean by the click. It should only be Shane's. His trademark if you will. I don't think I paid attention that much at the time but now that you mention it, I believe you're right. You have this weird ability to notice things that I would overlook. Either you're a great writer, a fantastic reader, or super duper observant. Or all three.

Shane isn't supernatural but a part of me likes that he gives off that vibe to you. He's meant to be this mysterious man with depravity lurking inside him, that he's not afraid to reveal to whoever crosses his path. As for how he became rich with power and to own such a large place with all of these people working for him, those answers will come later. Haley will find them out the longer she spends in that place.

Oh but I can answer that he saw her vulnerability by the fact that she was crying when he found her as well as her reaction to him. She backed up, wanting to escape which more than likely gave him a hard-on. It's fucked up but it's true.
Thank you for reading!!
