Rebecca’s Dream Chapter Thirteen

The financial affairs of Rebecca’s mother were now in the hands of the bank and there was little she could do for the present. Rebecca’s school fees were paid until the end of term and they resolved to carry on as normal for the time being, although being careful in their spending. Rebecca’s mother had some savings that would get them through for now.

They spent Sunday in the usual way. Church in the morning, Sunday lunch together and visiting in the afternoon. They had decided to keep the situation to themselves for now, as that seemed the proper thing to do. They must simply face each trial as it presented itself.

The night before had been a trying one for Rebecca. So much had been going through her young mind, making sleep impossible. The dear little bedroom that had always been hers and was alive with so many memories would, she knew, be taken from her. How many times had she stood at the window that overlooked the garden, one of her dolls in her arms and watched the darling bunnies that lived in the surrounding fields, come onto the lawn, nibbling here and there and always on the lookout, before running off back to their homes in the fields. The summer mornings, when she would throw open the sash and smell the new day, as the warm breeze brushed her face. She would watch the many birds and insects, already busy flying and hovering and crawling and fluttering about. The swing at the bottom of the garden. Her dear papa had made that for her and he would push her higher and higher, as she giggled with the thrill of it, her little legs kicking out and her light dress fluttering about her. The swing would stay there she guessed. A single tear had rolled down her soft cheek and onto her pillow as she thought of her swing and her dear papa pushing her higher, as he laughed at her shrieks and giggles. That single tear that had crept slowly down her cheek had unlocked the flood of tears waiting to fall. She had buried her face in the pillow and sobbed , as her young heart ached with sorrow.

Spending Sunday in the usual way had helped Rebecca after her restless night. She had tried not to dwell on thoughts that made her sad, but rather to be strong for her mother, whom she stayed close to all day.

In the evening, as they sat together after tea, Rebecca could see that her mother was again upset. Not many more Sunday evenings would they spend together in that cosy sitting room. The room in which they had spent almost every Sunday evening of Rebecca’s young life and when she was still very young, with her dear papa as well. Rebecca called on her strength, for children can sometimes be more resilient  than adults and she tried to keep her mother’s spirits up, by suggesting certain amusements and then she had leaned across, putting her lips to her mothers and kissing her warmly, as she undid the front of her mother’s dress and tracing her fingers along the front of her mother’s corset, just as she had always done, having always been fascinated by the grown up curves of her mother’s body. Her mother had gently stroked Rebecca’s hair and seemed a little more at peace and Rebecca unlaced her corset, which she often helped her mother with, freeing her mother’s large breasts from their constraint, still fascinated by just how big they were and how hard and expectant her mother’s nipples always seemed to be and how pretty and inviting she found the areolas. Rebecca then undid her own dress and eased her breast from their constraint. Asked what she was doing, Rebecca had replied that she wanted to compare and see how she was doing, which finally brought a smile to her mother's lips. Rebecca leaned forward, her breasts pushing against her mother’s, and gave her mother a kiss. ‘Feels like they are doing just fine’ her mother said, as she returned Rebecca’s kiss. ‘I think they need a bit more encouragement’ replied Rebecca with a smile… Their sorrow would of course return, both for the situation they were now in and because it had made them both think of Rebecca’s papa, but for now, as they took comfort from each other, they made the most of their period of respite. Rebecca was allowed to stay up a little later and they continued to take pleasure from each other.
